Athena finally appeared in the room and the conversations immediately quieted then stopped altogether as the new Guardians awaited her news. She glanced at Cameron and shrugged. “If anyone doubted you, they shouldn’t be allowed to celebrate with us now.”

Cheers erupted throughout the room, but not from Cameron or Selena who just exhaled slowly as the tension in their bodies melted away. Dionysus rose from the table to fetch more wine, and the Dagda called to his chef to prepare a banquet.

Aonghus never looked away from the one god he loved above all others.

Cameron smiled at him and pushed his chair away from the table. A few of his friends watched him, but most were busy drinking and proposing more toasts and relishing their victory. But when he took Selena’s hand and kneeled in front of her, the room fell quiet again.

Until that moment, he hadn’t been nervous. After all, in some ways, she was already his wife, his literal soul mate since he’d given up a piece of his own soul to give her a third chance at life. But now, with the room watching, with his parents and her Aunt Tara standing near those tapestries that had first taught the young demigods about the Treasures of the Tuatha Dé, with the Dagda and Badb and Thor and even London, watching him, he found his throat tight and the tension that had briefly dissolved with Athena’s news rushed through his body again.

But Selena squeezed his hand and her blue eyes shined down at him, and he forgot anyone else was in the room with them. He pulled the enchanted ring from his pocket, with its ruby-red stone that burned like fire as he slipped it on her finger, and just asked her. “Selena, will you marry me?”

“This very moment,” she promised him.

Cameron offered her that mischievous grin she’d always found so sexy and added, “And Étain, will you marry me again?”

She laughed and returned his mischievous grin. “I married you once, Midir, and I’d marry you a million times more.”

“This calls for more wine!” Dionysus cried, and the thunderous applause and congratulatory exclamations drowned out the rest of Cameron’s conversation with his past and future wife.

She put her arms around his neck and kissed him then whispered in his ear, “And just think, love, what Fate has in store for our daughter.”

Cameron smiled back at her and said, “I think her story is just beginning.”
