But the more we talked about it, the surer she said she was of her decision: to move to the manor, to become a hunter with me, and to finish her college degree whenever she could, no rush.
Her mother hadn’t been too happy about it. To be honest, she had yelled and cried about Tessa moving in with me and becoming a hunter, but Tessa was adamant, even more than when talking with me, and Regina relented. As long as Tessa sent her many texts throughout the day to let her know her daughter was okay.
She squeezed my hand back, and I smiled at the beautiful girl beside me. My girl.
Then, we were under the huge willow tree.
Like she had done before, Tessa disentangled her hand from mine and placed it flat against the tree’s trunk. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. If I didn’t know better, I would think Tessa was a witch and was sensing the tree’s magic.
“Are you ready?” I asked.
She opened her eyes and peeked at me. “For what?”
“For the bonding ritual tonight. For becoming a hunter. For being in this, in my life, for real.”
Letting go of the tree, Tessa wrapped her arms around my neck, stood on her tiptoes, and brushed her soft lips against mine. “There is nothing I want more.”
That was all I wanted to hear. Grinning like a fool, I wound my arms around her waist and pulled her closer to me. “We’ll be unstoppable together.”
She smiled at me. “Together.”
Then, I kissed her.
