  Acknowledgments

Special thanks to Michael Schaefer for his expat information and lessons on Khmer, to Dr. Cristina Kahn for her expertise on girls rescued girls from the sex trade, and to Dayna Reader for her keen eye, details about therapists…and stepmothers. The world benefits from your care and expertise and so does this story.

To the real-life Deni (our pal Usul) who continues to inspire with his graduate degree work, his wife, and two young children, all the while starting a coffee export business. We are so proud to know him.

The most exuberant thanks to my husband and life partner, Dr. Daryn Reicherter, for access to his Cambodian journals and all the other adventures. You tirelessly do such amazing, thankless work to make the world a safer better place for all of us, especially vulnerable populations, women, and children.

For our children, Ethan and Amelia, you inspire me daily with your zest for life, kind spirits, and creative courage. You are my hearts and it’s an honor to be your mom.

To everyone who worked on and was moved by this story: Heather Howland and the Entangled team—you are wonderful. Publishing the second part of Sienna and Deni’s story is a dream come true for me, and their new ending feels just right.

  About the Author

Heidi R. Kling writes about normal young women in fantastic situations—books that beg the question: what would you do in her shoes? Her latest, Where I Found You, is the new edition of her award-winning debut Sea (PenguinTeen) set in the aftermath of the Indonesian tsunami, with its much-anticipated sequel, Where the Sea Takes Me launching in June.

Paint My Body Red is a romantic suspense story about eighteen-year-old Paige Mason escapes her pressure cooker life in California to her father’s dilapidated ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where, with the help of a charmingly steadfast cowboy and a wild horse, she faces the raw truth of her past in order to rebuild her life. The reviews compare it to 13 Reasons Why and Speak, calling it “balm for the soul” and “a must read for teens and adults.” Not Okay, Cupid, a seaside tale of flirtatious revenge, launched in January. Readers crush hard on bad boy Felix James. She’s also the author of the Spellspinners of Melas County series and contributes short stories to anthologies. Her books have been translated into many languages.

Heidi majored in literature and creative writing in college and in grad school, where she earned her Master’s in Creative Writing from The New School in New York City.

She recently moved with her family from the rush of Silicon Valley to a sleepy coastal town not unlike Capeside, which she calls Star’s Hollow by-the-sea. There she runs a children’s theatre and wrestles fictional characters, her scruffy dog and not-so-scruffy husband and kids into fun adventures. You can find her editing monologues into 140 characters on Twitter: HeidiRKling where she loves to chat with her readers! :) Thanks for reading!
