Demonic Angel (A Touch Of Magic)

by Maria Del Sette

His tongue juts out and wets his lips quickly and my eyes focus in on them. My eyes seem to be locked onto his lips. How awkward. I can't tear them away. He leans further in and I panic. “Demon.” My voice catches slightly. He snaps back to look at my face.

  “What?”

“You are a demon.” My voice comes out all breathy and seductive and when I look into his eyes, I see that they are wide in shock. The green is back and he looks, is that fear I see? Yes, yes it is. “Jaxon? You okay?” I am the one smirking now.

“Yeah, I am fine. Why did you cave? I haven't even started yet.” I shrug, I didn't like the foggy feeling that over took my head when he was near. It probably would end badly. As if reading my mind, Jaxon says, “That could have been messy. I will drive you home.”

He moves away from me and my hand that was tangled in his hair falls limp against my side. He grabs his keys from a drawer and then leads me out of his house and to his car. A blacked out black and chrome Jeep. Shocking. This guy loves black and chrome.

We drive back to mine in silence and he doesn't even look in my direction once. The entire short drive home, he has a face like thunder and disdain clear in his eyes. When we pull up outside of my house, I barely let him put the brakes on before my seatbelt is off and I am opening the door. I just get one left out when Jaxon grabs me by the wrist. I look at him from over my shoulder.

“Stay away from me Titch. I will end up killing you. Take my advice, leave the village or better, the country.” He mutters harshly. I snarl and yank my wrist out of his touch.

“How about, you stay away from me and then we wont have a problem, will we? Dick.” I climb out of the car and slam the door. I don't turn back to look at his gaping face once as I make my way to my front door. I enter my house and slam the door behind me. I lean against the large oak door and let out a shaky breath that I didn't even know I was holding. I walk further into the house and see Tessa and Ana staring at me with confusion all over their faces.

“Hey wassup?” I ask casually as I pass them both and head to the kitchen. I look up at the clock and see that it is almost five pm. Suppose I should make dinner. I open up cupboards and look to see what we have got. I sigh. I turn around and am startled when I see that they are both standing right behind me. “Um. Hi?”

“Calissa Rose Bond! Where the hell have you been? Was that Jaxon's Jeep that dropped you off?”

“Oh relax Detective Myers. All is well, I can assure you.” I give her a look to say that I will explain everything when my sister isn't around and she gives me a curt nod. “Right, I can't be bothered to cook tonight. Long day and everything. Want to order in?”

“Can we have Chinese food?” Ana asks with her little hands clasped together.

“Yeah okay, go find me a menu then.” She runs off into the hallway and starts digging around in one of the cabinets where we keep takeaway menus. “Where the hell were you today?” I hiss at Tessa.

  “What do you mean?”

“When I came downstairs, no-one was here. I knew that Ana was at Jamie's house but where did you go?”

“I went home quickly to grab some clothes and bumped into Mike. Oh by the way, I have your phone. Sorry.” She digs into her jeans pocket and pulls out my phone. I snatch it off her and practically kiss it.

“Thank you!! I have been looking for this everywhere,” I look at Tessa. “You went home?” Worry over takes my mind. “What happened? Are you okay?”

“Yes, don't worry. He wasn't there. I think he was at work today. Surprised he actually still has a job. I drove passed the house and saw his car gone so I went in, grabbed a couple of suitcases and changed into some jeans,” she gestures to her lower half. “Then I went to see Mike. I dumped him by the way.” My eyes bug out of my head.

“Why? I thought you loved him?” She bursts out a laugh.

“No way. I liked him, yeah sure. Definitely didn't love him. It just wasn't the same with him anymore any way.” She shrugs. “Your dad rang while you were sleeping earlier, hence why I had your phone. He said he will be home tomorrow instead of tonight. Then your mum tried ringing you but I didn't answer it in time.” I already knew about my dad but mum calling me? We usually Skype every Sunday morning. What would she want to speak to me about? I don't have time to dwell on it because Ana finally comes running in flapping around a menu for the only Chinese takeaway that will deliver to our little village.

Our food doesn't take long to arrive and soon we are all filled up and vegging out on the sofa watching one of Ana's DVD's. Thank God she didn't force me to watch Frozen again. I think I'd go insane if I had to watch it two nights in a row, even if it's a really good film. After the film about Sleeping Beauty with a twist to it, starring Angelina Jolie, Ana has a bath and goes to bed. I tuck her up.

“I am sorry our time together this morning was interrupted. I promise we will spend some quality time together tomorrow. Just you, dad, Tessa and I, okay?” I whisper to her and she nods. “Night baby girl, I love you.” I stroke her hair, kiss her forehead. and then leave the room.

I join Tessa in the kitchen and help her put the left over Chinese food in the fridge. I wipe down the counters while she washes up the plates and cutlery we used. I step into the living room and shut off the T.V and then back in the kitchen, I make us both a drink of coconut flavoured rum and coke and together we make our way out onto the patio, away from the part of the garden of which we were attacked and I turn on the patio heater and we sit down on the garden swing.

“Something happened between me and Jaxon earlier this afternoon.” I mumble, unsure if she can hear me or not. By the way she grabs my arm and her eyes widen, I am guessing she did.

“What the frick! What happened?” So I tell her everything that has happened whenever she wasn't around. Jaxon's flirting, Hellhound, grazed knees and feet, almost kissing him and then snapping at him when I left him.

“The thing is though, it seemed like he was pissed when I finally said what he was. It looked like he didn't want me to say it because he was having fun with me. Maybe I am being crazy here but maybe, just maybe, he might have actually wanted to kiss me?” I take a sip of my cool drink and set it on the floor.

“I am sorry, I am still reeling over the fact that you are Nephilim, that thing this morning was a Hellhound and Jaxon and Aeron are demons.” She blinks her mascara covered eyelashes at me. “So am I just a human then? Why haven't you got any powers then?” I roll my eyes.

“I don't know. I did something to the Hellhound but am unsure what I actually did. Ignore that bit for a moment, go back to the kissing thing!” I laugh as I shout at her. She smiles and then a serious look takes over her pretty face.

“I have never seen you act like this towards a guy. Trust it to be a demon of all things to start acting like this.” She laughs but it sounds strained. “By what you told me, yeah maybe he did actually want to kiss you. He said it would be messy? What does that mean?” I shrug and she continues, “what kind of demon is he?”

“I don't know Tess. I didn't ask. The only demons I have ever heard of is Azazel and Lucifer. Remember when we were taught about them in school? Well they are the only ones I remember. I don't think that he is Azazel because his eyes aren't yellow and he doesn't resemble a goat in anyway. And I definitely don't think he is Lucifer because Lucifer is pure evil. Despite Jaxon being a grumpy, miserable arse eighty percent of the time, I know he has a soft side otherwise he wouldn't have helped me three times today.” She goes off into thought for a moment and I take another sip of my drink.

“Let's Google demons.” That reminds me, I want to Google Nephilim at some point too. I watch as Tessa pulls out her phone and opens up Chrome. “Right... Attractive demons.” She types it in and I stifle a laugh. After a few seconds she looks at me with her eyebrows furrowed and eyes wide. “Incubus?”

“What is that?” I ask. She passes me her phone for me to read what it says. “An Incubus is a demon in male form who, according to mythology and legen
dary traditions, lies upon sleepers, especially women, in order to engage in sexual activity with them. An incubus can some-what hypnotise its victim into a haze where they think they want to engage in sexual activity. Its female counterpart is the succubus. An incubus may also pursue sexual relations with a woman in order to father a child. Religious tradition holds that repeated sexual activity with an incubus or succubus may result in the deterioration of health, or even death.” I look at Tessa, my mouth formed into a 'o'. “Both a succubus and an incubus can drain the energy and eventually life from a victim by simply placing a hand on them.” I blink and gulp. “Oh no. What if he is an Incubus?” I panic.

“I'm sure he's not. He's not tried to sleep with you. Has he?”

“No! Of course not! At least, I don't think he has. He barely ever comes over to my house. The only time he ever does is to pick up Aeron, who by the way I refuse to babysit ever again.” I huff. “And I've never been asleep when he has been around me. You were there when I was asleep last time, did it look like he was going to, um, do anything?” Tessa laughs despite the tense situation.

“No!!” She's laughing hysterically now. “I. Am. So. Sorry. For. Laughing.” She says between breaths. “This whole day has been more eventful than my entire life.” She yawns.

“Yeah, tell me about it.” I look at the time on Tessa's phone that is still in my hand. “Gonna Skype my mum. Wanna join me?”

“Okay.” We grab our drinks and I turn off the patio heater before we head inside. I double lock all the doors and then we enter my dad's office where the PC is.

  FIVE

“Yes mum, I promise I am looking after Ana.” I roll my eyes.

“Good because if I find out she is injured like you are, I will be at that house quicker than you can say 'bonjour' understand?” Her blonde hair is pinned up in a neat bun and despite it being eleven pm where she is, she still looks made up. Her blue eyes are clear and she definitely does not look like she is in her mid forties. She could easily pass for her mid thirties instead. “How did you injure yourself anyway?” I look at Tessa who nudges her head towards the screen. A silent way of her telling me to tell mum everything. I hesitate. “Cally.” Mum says sternly.

“Mum. Am I a Nephilim?” She looks at me in shock and then away from the computer. She mutters something I can't make out and then looks back at the screen.

“What makes you ask that? What happened?” I relay everything that has happened today minus the bit about Jaxon and me in his kitchen and although the news is shocking, mum stays completely calm. “Oh my gosh.” She hisses at the end and squeezes her eyes shut. “I was afraid this might happen.”

  “Mum?” I prod.

“Yes Cally you are kind of a Nephilim. Not the kind that you think you are though.” My face screws up in confusion.

“What do you mean Mrs Bond?” Tessa asks for me since I have no words.

“I can't explain it right now Tessa. Look, I don't want to talk about this through a screen. Do you think the three of you can get the next Eurostar here first thing tomorrow?” I look at Tessa who just shrugs.

  “What about dad?”

“Don't worry about your father dear. He will come here too when I tell him what is going on.” Mum assures. I blink several times and think about it for a moment.

“Okay. We will head down as soon as we are all up tomorrow.”

“Great. Pay for it on the credit card I gave you. Look forward to seeing you. Tessa, you should tell your mother where you are heading and only your mother. She will understand.”

“Um. I don't think she will care ma'am.” Tessa says solemnly.

“Don't be absurd. Of course she will. Just explain to her what has been going on. She knows more about this than you think. If what Cally says is true, then it is unsafe for you to be there too. Believe me. I have to go. See you both tomorrow. Love you.” Her face disappears before I can say goodbye.

I sigh and turn to my best friend who's obviously displeased with the news my mother has just told her. “You okay Tess?” I whisper.

“Yeah. Suppose I should call my mum.” She grabs the land-line phone and dials her mum's number. I leave her to it and go to double check that all of the doors are locked up. Back door. Check. Windows. Check. Front door. Check. Knock knock. Who the frick could that be? I sigh as I start unlocking the door again.

“What a pain!” I say in my best imitation of my mothers voice. I pull open the door and see Jaxon standing before me. “What the hell do you want?” I snarl.

“Heard you were leaving tomorrow?” That shocks me.

“How the hell did you know that? Are you spying on me?” I glance around the room behind me.

“No. I just have great hearing is all.” He gives me a lopsided smirk that I immediately want to remove, with my fist.

“Funny that considering you couldn't hear when I was screaming outside your house earlier.” I narrow my eyes at him.

“Yeah well, I had music playing so I wasn't paying attention.”

  “Whatever. What do you want?”

“To say goodbye?” I raise an eyebrow and he chuckles. Stupid laugh, making my insides flutter! “Okay, I want to let you know that it is for the best, you leaving. Elders have caught wind that there is a half angel living around here thanks to you using powers on that Hellhound earlier. This whole village will be swarmed with Underworlders in the next twenty four hours.” I gulp.

“Why are you telling me this?” I ask in a hushed tone.

“Because you babysit my brother?” I blink at him and raise a single brow. “Okay, because I know I am going to be the one sent to kill you. So the further you go, the better. I don't know where you are going and I don't want to know. I just know that you are leaving tomorrow. I haven't yet received my mission from the Elders but I know I am going to run the search. I also know it will be under my hands to kill you and if I do find you, I am sorry but I will kill you. It's just who I am.” He shrugs as if it is nothing to him but I can tell he is bothered by this. It frigging bothers me!

  “How?”

  “Huh?”

“How will you kill me? Will you drain my soul? Will you have sex with me in my sleep? Impregnate me to give you a son and then I will be ill or die from that? How?” He looks at me like I am crazy.

“What are you getting at?” His lips twitch and I can see that he is trying not to smile.

“Nothing, forget it.” I mumble and look away from him. “I just know what kind of demon you are is all.”

“Oh really? What am I then?” He takes a tentative step towards me and I let him. He gets less that a foot away from me and I look up at his face.

“Incubus.” I whisper. He looks impressed.

“You came up with that all by yourself?” I nod, not wanting to bring Tessa into this and bite my lip. His eyes shoot down to my lips and linger. “When I am close to you like this, do you feel weak and tired?” I shake my head at his whispered question. He snaps his head back a bit. “You don't?” I shake my head again. “You sure?” I nod. “Hmm.” He looks genuinely confused.

“Are you an incubus then?” I ask, finding my voice.

“Honestly?” I nod. “Yeah, I am.” I should be scared but I am not. “The real question is, why aren't you affected by me?” I don't respond, instead I stare up into his green eyes. “Suppose I had better go. I think your friend is finishing up her call to whoever she is on the phone to.”

“Okay. Thank you for warning me I guess.” I step away from him, nod and look behind him at the bright moon that is high in the nights sky.

“Before I go. I need to test something.” He rushes towards me before I can think and slams his lips into mine causing me to tense up. When the initial shock wares off, I relax into him and on instinct, kiss him back causing my eye lids to drift shut. His lips are the perfect pressure against mine, hard but soft and it causes my stomach to flutter uncontrollably. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end and I feel as if my head is spinning. The ha
ziness from when he was close to me before returns but it isn't unbearable. His tongue sweeps gently against mine when I open my mouth a bit and my knees give in. One of his arms wrap around me and hold me up against him so our bodies are pressed together. Then he suddenly pulls away, panting. I am breathing hard too and I look up at him in a daze.

What just happened? You were kissed you dumb-arse. By a demon! A sex demon at that! Well done genius! My brain is telling me off again...

“Shit.” He mumbles. “Um, bye.” Then he walks off and disappears in the shadows. CRAP!! Why did I let him do that?! I shut the door and turn to see Tessa standing by the stairs, mouth wide open and eyes even wider (if that is possible). I freeze in place for a moment until the real reason Jaxon turned up hits my mind again. Double crap!

“I know what you are thinking but don't wanna hear it right now Tess. We need to pack and leave, tonight. Not tomorrow, tonight. Mum won't mind if we are a few hours early but we need to go now because tomorrow, there will be most probably a thousand demons here for me. US!” It takes a while for what I am saying to register in Tessa's brain but soon enough, her mouth snaps shut and she is following me up the stairs to my room.
