Forever Cursed

She exhaled slowly, measuring my every move with that brash stare. Finally, she licked her bottom lip and then whispered, “I am your curse.”

“What are you?”
My demand echoed amongst the enticing melody sang just for me. Yet the creature with the haunted emerald eyes did not seem to notice or care that she was interrupting me from listening more deeply. Instead, she simply circled me like a feline ready to pounce.
“Your curse,” she purred and then licked her lips like she could taste both my desire and hatred dripping off them.
The rashness of her voice caught me off guard. It lingered amongst the song like it belong amongst it. Yet, it was too harsh, too real to let me close my eyes and fall into the bliss of the tune.
“My presence in your life has done nothing but cursed you to a fate reserved for the most corrupt men,” she carried on, keeping her distance after her gaze slipped to my hand clutching the hilt of my sword.
Her back arched as the ocean’s waves crashed into her, casting water onto her skin. It dripped from her hair, lingering in the delicate lines of her neck before spilling down her chest—all seemingly staged to distract me.
For fucksakes, I snapped out of it. She was the distraction, blinking throughout those thick lashes. She meant to lure me away from the beauty of my song.
I looked around, searching for the source of the song when my gaze landed on a siren. Aleesia. Her porcelain face and lovely dark red lips were burned to memory. She opened her mouth, flashing her slightly pointed teeth that glistening in the fading sunlight. Bloody hell it was unnatural in the very way her blackened tail was unnatural. Yet, the way the light faded to darkness in each scale was enticing all the same. And I didn’t want to deny myself of her any longer. I’d have her, steal her dangerous kiss even if I had to pull her from the bottom of the drink to get it.
“Come to me,” she sang, brushing her fingers lightly over the surface of the dark water.
I shuddered, thinking of having her fingers dragging across my skin. I stepped a fraction of an inch deeper into the water when a scream corrupted the melody, tearing it apart with her harsh noise.
“You are mine, Captain Hook,” the creature screamed, demanding my attention as she exploded from the water.
“Kill her,” Alessia hissed.
The order wasn’t necessary. I pulled back on my sword, but the creature was fast—so blasted quick. She slammed her foot down on the hilt, propelling herself up out of the water. Sinking her nails into my back, she anchored herself against me.
Without a thought, I grabbed a knot of her hair and jerked her back. Yet, she dug her nails deeper into my skin, relinquishing cursed words that unleashed fire within my veins.
“I’ll kill you before I lose you to that bitch, Aleesia,” she vowed and retracted her claws long enough to cover my ears with her gnarly hands.
That was a mistake.
“Someone will die, and it won’t be me,” I promised, lacing her wrist with my hook.
