  Captain Gringo shook his head wearily and said, ‘You make me nervous, too. The next time you feel practique, I hope you’ll discuss it with me before you mock me out.”

  “Ah, you are beginning to see certain advantages in our present windfall?”

  “Jesus H. Christ, I’m not a total idiot! Where are we headed, or don’t you care?”

  Gaston shrugged and said, “There’s a nice little civil war brewing up in Nicaragua, and the girls have friends in Managua. Have you made up your mind whether you t want Virginia or Prudence yet?”

  Captain Gringo said, “Shut up and give me a drink. We’ll work it out between here and Nicaragua.”
