  Lawmaster: The Judge's computer controlled motorbike - extremely powerful, intelligent and heavily armed.

  Luna-City: Counterpart of Mega-City One located on the Moon, aka Luna-1.

  Med-Judge: A medic specialist usually in support of a meat wagon; very much like an ambulance. Med-Judges work within a Med-Squad, for Med-Division.

  Offworlder: Alien.

  Pedway: A pedestrian-only pathway, often motorised.

  Perp: A criminal.

  Pre-Cog: A special type of Psi-Judge with precognitive powers, able to predict the future to a limited degree.

  Psi-Judge: A Judge with psychic abilities, a psyker, from the Justice Department's Psi-Division.

  Psycho Cubes: A prison cell for psychological disturbed and highly dangerous citizens. Also known as the Kook Cube.

  R'qeen: An alien race that once fought a war with humans. R'qeen are carrion eaters who prefer to eat rotting flesh and a number live within Mega-City One. Some R'qeen are blessed with metema, the ability to read the minds of humans.

  Shoppera: A block constructed into a huge shopping centre, aka dhoplex.

  SJS: The Special Judicial Squad act as the Judge's police; they seek out corruption and crime within the Law with extreme prejudice.

  Skedway: A minor roadway; smaller than a megway but larger than an overzoom.

  Sleep Machine: A cubicle for Street Judges who can rest for ten minutes and gain a whole night's sleep.

  Smokatorium: A huge, block-sized building dedicated to legal tobacco smoking. To smoke tobacco outside the building is deemed illegal and can warrant a six-month iso-cube sentence.

  Street Judge: A Judge on the beat who tackles crime and issues sentences.

  Tek-Judge: A technical and engineering specialist whose skills range from advanced forensic analysis to the repairing of vehicles, weapons, etc.

  Titan: A small moon orbiting Saturn, used as a dedicated maximum-security prison for Mega-City One's most dangerous criminals, where they spend their days breaking rocks.

  Tri-D: Also known as holovision; there are over 312 channels in Mega-City One.

  Weather Control: A Justice Department dedicated to artificially maintaining the weather over Mega-City One as well as being able to rain upon an illegal demonstration, etc. If the Weather Control should fail, the temperature within parts of Mega-City One becomes incredibly humid that can entice rioting.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

  David Bishop was born and raised in New Zealand, becoming a daily newspaper journalist at eighteen years old. He emigrated to Britain in 1990 and became sub-editor of the Judge Dredd Megazine. He was editor from 1992-1995, a period when the title was voted Britain's best comic every year. He edited 2000 AD weekly from 1996 to 2000 before becoming a freelance writer. His previous novels include three starring Judge Dredd (for Virgin Books) and four featuring Doctor Who (for Virgin and the BBC). He also writes non-fiction books and articles, audio dramas, comics and has been a creative consultant on three forthcoming video games.
