Cheyenne grabbed Cole’s face in between her hands. “Yes!” She kissed Cole.
Cole pulled a ring from his pocket and slipped it onto her finger. “It’s a good thing you said yes because Reverend Clark will be here any minute.” Cole smiled.
“WHAT?”
“Too soon?”
“I, uhh, oh my God, I’m getting married. I don’t have a dress!”
“You look beautiful!”
“I’m pretty certain I have frosting in my hair and…”
“Yet, you’re still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.”
“You have about thirty seconds to decide because he’s walking up the front steps.” Bill stood up.
“Bett, will you stand up for me?”
“It would be my honor.”
“Bill, will you give me away?”
“So long as I get you back after the ceremony.” Bill winked.
Cole looked over at his brother. “J, will you be my best man?”
Jonny sat silent a moment. He watched the expression on Cole’s face go from happy to almost horrified. Jonny let out a laugh. “Ha-ha gotcha! Of course.”
Cheyenne stepped in front of Laney. “Would you mind holding Evie for us?”
Laney smiled. “I’d love to.”
“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”
Cole kissed Cheyenne and then he turned and hugged his brother. “Thank you for always having my back, J, even when I didn’t deserve it.”
“You’re my twin. My other half. I love you, Bro.”
“I love you too.”
Jonny walked over to where Laney was and wrapped his arms around her. “What a day huh?”
“I love your family.”
“Yeah, and to think it just officially got bigger. That’s one more Black in the family.”
“About that…how would you feel about adding another little Black to the family?”
Jonny winked and then tilted his head. “Like now?”
“More like five months?”
“What? When did that happen?”
“About four months ago.” Laney giggled.
“So, I’m having a baby?” Jonny stared at Laney.
Laney nodded. “I’m having one too.”
Jonny grabbed her, spun her around and howled at the top of his lungs. “WE’RE HAVING A BABY!”
His parents sprung up and hugged them followed by Cole and Cheyenne.
Cole pulled away from Jonny. “Who would have thought that we both could have ended up this happy?”
“Not me, but I’m so happy I was wrong.”
Cole handed his brother a beer. “To getting my brother back!”
Jonny tapped the neck of his bottle against Cole’s. “You never really lost me but it’s good to be home.”
