“These are your people. You would kill them just like that?”

“They are not my people. You are mine. They are… obstacles. I cannot be stopped by obstacles.”

The intensity in his eyes as he spoke pinned her in place. All she could do was stand there, looking into his eyes. He wouldn’t force her to stay with him, but he didn’t need to.

The threat of what awaited her outside was enough. She’d experienced enough of that the second she woke up from her cryo-stasis to know he was telling the truth.

The men of this world would fight for her, but he was the biggest. The strongest. She had to swallow as she admitted to herself that he was also the most handsome.

It would’ve been a lie to say that the thought of his sweating body pressed against hers didn’t make her heart beat in her chest.

Still, the fact remained he was holding her prisoner.

Would she ever see Earth again?

Her shuttle had been so damaged that when she thought about it now, she wasn’t even sure it would ever work. Thinking of her shuttle made her realize all of her supplies were still there.

“I can’t stay in here forever. I need to get back to my ship.”

He pushed off from the wall to stand straight and tall. It was like looking at a king, his posture that of a looming tower.

  “Why?”

“My things are there. Clothes, food, weapons.” Not to mention her radio back to her base on Earth. She needed to contact them and get some answers.

“Your things are lost to you. Accept that now.”

“No! Now listen here, I was just supposed to discuss negotiations about some mineral deposits, but now you’re telling me I’m part of some crazy prophecy your people have. I will not accept anything but the retrieval of all my possessions.”

Geruke crossed his arms over his chest.

“What makes your possessions so valuable?”

“You would kill to get me back?”

  “I would.”

“I’d kill to get my things back.”

Inside she froze, concerned he would take the threat poorly, but it seemed all these people responded to were shows of strength.

It didn’t matter that she didn’t think she could back it up. She had to try. That radio was her only chance to ever get off of this rock.

Geruke narrowed his eyes, and the smallest of smiles spread his lips.

  “Very well. But later.”

  “Why later?”

Her question was answered when he moved his head just past hers and breathed deeply of her hair. The sound near her ear sent gooseflesh down the entire half of her body.

The breath caught in her throat and she brought a hand to her chest.

  “What are you doing?”

Geruke lowered his mouth to her shoulder and touched his lips there before flicking his tongue over her skin.

“Your kind is strange indeed. The smell. The taste.”

He raised his hand in front of her face and traced his fingertips down the ridge of her nose and over the plumpness of her lips.

“Never have I seen one like you. So soft.”

“Y-you can’t… just touch me…” she said, and though she tried to put force into her tone, she couldn’t make it convincing.

  “No?” he asked, almost amused.

His fingers ran down the front of her throat to her chest. “Stop me.”

Sylvia’s heart was pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears. As much as she tried, she couldn’t keep her breath steady.

The arrogance in this alien was overwhelming, yet somehow the fact he wanted her so badly was irresistible.

“You’re a beast,” she said, closing her eyes as his hand moved down her belly.

  “Then stop me.”

Inside she tried to get the words to form.

If she could just say for him to stop, would he?

The thing that kept her from actually speaking was… what if he did stop?

This powerful man put to shame any loser she’d ever dated.

When his hand went between her legs and cupped her sex, she gasped and grabbed ahold of his arm with both hands. Yet, she still couldn’t bring herself to move his hand away.

She stood frozen as he brought his mouth to her ear, his lips brushing the ridge of her ear.

In a husky breath he said, “Mmm. Warm.”

  “Ooh,” she moaned.

When he moved his hand in a slow circle, her legs buckled and she had to hold to him just to stay standing.

The pressure of his fingers along the seam of her pants as he removed his hand made her hips move with the motion, as if chasing his hand.

“We must eat,” he said, and walked into the other room.

Sylvia fell back against the wall, unable to hold herself up under her own strength, and struggled to catch her breath.

In that moment she couldn’t decide who she was angrier with; him for touching her, or herself for being unable to stop him. She ran her tongue over her lower lip before biting it.

  She’d decide that one later.

  Chapter 4

It was two days before he agreed to take her out to the shuttle. During that time, he never made another advance on her. Whereas part of her was glad to not be faced with that sort of confrontation again, deep inside she was disappointed.

When she closed her eyes and thought about it, she could still feel his hand between her legs. Heat surged through her tummy.

Still, no matter how turned on her body became, her mind couldn’t get over the fact that he had her trapped here. That thought always killed any possible warmth she could ever have toward the man.

When they did finally set out, he took a weapon she’d never seen before. It was a long narrow blade at the end of short handle. It looked like a spear, though most of it was the blade. Sections were smoothed over and wrapped in leather to allow places to hold it.

As they walked down the street of the city, the other males all looked at her with an enthusiastic craving, but the sight of Geruke with his weapon kept everyone at bay.

Her captor walked with such arrogance that he didn’t bother glaring at any of the others to keep them back. It was as though he knew it would be foolish for them to attempt anything.

As much as she hated his inflated confidence, it seemed to be well-placed. Not a single man made a move on her.

Did they suspect he had already taken her and was now invincible?

Part of her wanted to somehow behave as though it were obvious they had not, but it felt as though it would be a betrayal. So far he had fed her, and given her a safe place to sleep. That was leaps and bounds above what any of the others had even hinted at wanting with her.

Once they’d slept with her, what would they do after?

It was a terrible thing to admit, but Geruke was genuinely taking care of her and had yet to take her against her will.

Then again, would it be entirely against her will?

That question brought the warmth again, and with it a deep sigh of desire. Things were so confusing here.

The trek out took much longer since they weren’t running this time. After a couple of hours, she saw the remains of her shuttle lying in a heap. The entire thing had been torn apart piece by piece.

Shouting in frustration, Sylvia stopped and held her hands out in front of her, as if pleading with the shuttle to not be trashed.

The next few hours were spent rummaging through the scrap metal, looking for anything useful. All of her clothing, food, and supplies were gone.

The weapons had been shattered against rocks and things, as though these animals were curious how they worked but became too frustrated to work with them.

The real shock to her system was the destroyed remains of the shuttle’s radio. She hadn’t the training or spare parts to fix it. It was gone.

The only connection to Earth, her only hope of rescue or escape sat in a useless hunk before her. Sylvia fell to her knees, looking at the mess of w
ires and circuit boards.

“This was important?” Geruke asked from behind her.

“Yes,” she said, refusing to look at him, “this was very important. And it might’ve been in one piece if we hadn’t have waited! It’s destroyed and it’s your fault.”

“There were many here. It would have been impossible for you to defeat them all. We had to wait for them to finish.”

Sylvia stood and turned on him.

“You knew they were going to do this? You knew and you waited? This was my stuff. Everything I owned in this entire world, and you just let them take it?”

Geruke’s eyebrows deepened, though in confusion or anger she couldn’t tell.

“They were not my things. It would’ve been foolish to risk it.”

“They were my things,” she shouted and pushed at his chest.

“I hate you! I’m stranded here now, with you.”

  “Yes.”

The simple way he said that ignited a fire inside of her. She pulled her hand back to punch him right in that arrogant face of his, but suddenly that arrogant face twisted into a look of raw ferocity.

When he grabbed her she shrieked, terrified he’d rip her to pieces right then and there.

To her surprise, he pushed her to the side and then stepped in front of her, brandishing his weapon in front of him.

When she turned, her eyes fell on the most gigantic centipede she’d ever seen. It was as big as a house!

The length of the weapon proved its usefulness as he jumped atop a pile of wreckage and leaped up, thrusting the blade high.

The tip of it pierced through the monster’s lower part of the head. White blood sprayed like some sort of disgusting rain, and it recoiled from the blow, injured but still alive.

Geruke shouted a warcry as he spun the weapon side to side in front of him.

  What was he doing?

He couldn’t possibly kill it! It was too big, too fast.

Sylvia looked around at the wreckage of her shuttle, hoping against hope that she could find something still intact. Everything was destroyed, though!

That hope sank with every turn of a metal panel, every flip of an empty crate.

  Then she stopped.

The guns had all been broken in the aliens’ frustration, but not every part of every gun. As Geruke shouted and fought with the creature toe-to-toe like a maniac, Sylvia fell to her knees and began field stripping her rifles, gutting them for the pieces that were still intact.

As she began the collection in a new pile, she began constructing a Frankenstein rifle from the dead parts.

In minutes, she prayed to any god that was listening that this would work as she slammed in an ammo pack and pulled back the slider to chamber the first round.

Standing and planting her feet wide, she shouldered the rifle and took aim. Geruke was mid-roll, avoiding a bite from the creature. Eying down the sight, she aimed at the thing’s head and fired.

The rifle announced a futile click and nothing happened.

Grunting with frustration, she had to jerk the slider in the side of the rifle three times before it ejected the jammed round. Pulling it back once more, she chambered another, took aim, and squeezed the trigger again.

This time, she was rewarded with a satisfying report from the rifle and a cloud of smoke. The beast let out a high-pitched shriek and recoiled.

When Geruke pressed the advantage, the creature became defensive, confused as to what had just struck it.

Sylvia pulled the trigger four more times, each striking true. The satisfaction she felt in her accuracy was swiftly replaced with regret. Now the creature knew what was damaging it.

In a great undulating wave, it cleared over Geruke’s head and came for Sylvia. She hurriedly squeezed off a few more rounds, but now the creature knew to dodge and each shot went wide.

The realization of the danger she was in struck her like a lightning bolt, and she tried to flee.

Great spikes pierced through her body, driving her to the ground. The massive weight of the thing nearly crushed her, its mouth opening wide to take off her head.

Sylvia tried to scream, but there was no air left in her lungs. Suddenly, there was a spray of warm insect blood, and the beast’s head fell to the ground ahead of her.

Geruke roared with the effort as he pushed against the creature’s body to make it fall to the side instead of on top of her. The spikes through her body slipped out as it tipped to the side, and she cried out in agony.

Falling to his knees, Geruke breathed rapidly through his nose as he scooped her up in his arms. The world faded out as he lifted her, and she was certain the beast had just killed her.

Looking up to Geruke’s face, she touched his stubbled cheek with her fingers. At least, his handsome face would be the last thing she would see. That thought strangely made her happy.

Darkness played at the edges of her vision, and she knew her time was up.

“Geruke?” she asked, but if he answered, she didn’t hear. Oblivion had taken her.

  Chapter 5

Sylvia woke with a gasp. A dull ache in her stomach made her groan, but when she touched the skin there, she felt a stiff fabric wrapped around her middle.

As she looked around, she recognized the stone walls of Geruke’s home. This was his room, and she had been sleeping on his bed.

  How had she gotten here?

As she tried to remember what had happened, Geruke entered the room with a stone slab covered with food and a pitcher of water.

“You’re awake,” he said, and set the tray on the bed beside her.

“You must eat. The medicine has drained much of your body’s strength to heal you.”

“Medicine?” she asked, looking down at herself.

“But, those things went right through me. I thought I was dead for sure.”

To her surprise, Geruke’s jaw jutted out for a second in reflex and he looked away before portioning out the food.

“Yes. As did I. It was unclear if your body would respond favorably.”

  Sylvia smirked.

“You were concerned about me? That’s cute. Your ride to power was in danger, huh?”

When he looked at her, it was real pain she saw on his face. “You do not understand.”

  “I’m sorry,” she said softly.

  “Tell me.”

“When I saw you injured on the ground there, I became… afraid. I do not feel fear. Yet, the thought of you… gone.” He shook his head.

  “I ran.”

Now Sylvia remembered the look on his face as he’d held her in his arms. All she could think of at the time was the fact that she could see him one last time, now, though, she put his expression into context. He’d been heartbroken.

“You ran with me all the way back just to save me?”

“I cannot lose you. You may hate me, and that is well. But I will protect you against anything. You are mine and… and I am yours.”

“Geruke,” she said softly, and leaned forward to touch his face.

“I don’t hate you. I’m sorry for those things I said. I was angry.”

“I don’t want you to hate me.”

“How can I hate the man that makes me feel the way you do?”

Geruke pushed the tray of food to the side as he leaned in closer to her.

“How do I make you feel?”

  Sylvia licked her lips.

  “Mmm. Warm.”

Like a viper, Geruke shot forward and latched onto her lower lip, suckling it passionately before opening his mouth to kiss her with an incredible need. What surprised her more was that she needed him just as much.

She ran her fingers down the muscles of his back, finally allowing herself to appreciate the beauty in all of his strength.

Growling with lust, he reached down and tore open her shirt as though it was made of tissue paper, revealing her breasts. Dipping forward, he took her nipple into his mouth.

The warmth of his breath sent waves of pleasure
through her skin in the second before his lips wrapped around the flesh of her breast. Moaning, she grabbed him by the hair and held his mouth to her.

Reaching up, he fondled her other breast as his free hand worked to free her pants from her waist.

In all her life, she’d never wanted anyone to touch her as much as she wanted to feel Geruke. All of him.

When he got her pants down to her knees, she bicycled her legs to work them down to her ankles, and then finally kicked them free of her feet.

Pushing him up to his knees, she continued kissing him as she worked free his belt.

For the first time she actually saw him smiling, holding his hands up and to his side as he let her undress him. She had no idea how these strange people reproduced, but it was clear he enjoyed this as much as she did.

There was a part of her that wasn’t sure what she would see when she pushed his pants down, but that doubt was squashed the second she revealed his beautiful penis, erect and ready for her.

  “Good?” he asked.

“Perfect,” she said, and reached forward to wrap her fingers around it.

Geruke’s eyes rolled closed and he groaned low and long as she slowly ran her fingers up and down the length of him.

  “Good?” she asked, smiling.

  “Mmm, perfect.”

Taking him by the hand, she guided his fingers between her legs. Then, carefully, she took his middle finger and pressed it against her clit.

“Here,” she whispered, trying not to moan so that she could speak.

  “Right here.”

Geruke opened his eyes and tilted his head, curious.

As he moved his finger around her clit, he watched her reactions. Thankfully, he was a quick study and she was soon leaning against him to steady her.

  “I want you,” she moaned.

  “I want you inside me.”

In an instant, he pressed himself against her to push her down to the bed.

“That is what I was waiting for.”

Sylvia opened her eyes to look into his own. That fact touched her so deeply she was near tears.

  “You were?”

He nodded with a grunt of affirmation.
