“Good, and she’s fired anyway for telling them to grab me,” Simone said, remembering everything from earlier.
Baron rolled them to their side and gazed into her eyes. “Simone Locklear, keeper of my heart, will you bond with me?”
Tears pooled in her eyes as she nodded. “Yes, Baron my Blood-mate, I’ll bond with you.”
Epilogue
Baron walked into the hall with Rauff and Lukian behind him. “Nervous?” Rauff whispered as he stopped in front of the massive fireplace in the room.
Since the two of them had a long, overdue conversation the week before, Rauff’s whole demeanor changed. Gone was the self-absorbed man who thought only of himself. Perhaps it was the idea of losing Lukian to Camilla that brought the vain man to his senses, but this low key version of Rauff was a lot easier to deal with. The man actually turned in his reports on time without Baron asking for them.
“Not really,” Baron said tugging on his earlobe. “Since this has never been done before we don’t know what to expect. She plans to do a human ceremony later.”
“Well you’ve chosen well and I’m happy for you,” Rauff said slapping Baron on the shoulder.
“Yes, she’s amazing. I see Camilla and Rissa heading out, let’s go.”
The three of them met up with Camilla. Baron picked up Marissa and kissed her cheeks. “Hello beautiful one.”
She giggled. “Hi Baron. Aunty’s waiting for you.”
An original composition from Halgreth filled the air. Baron left the guests and headed to the inner room set aside for the bonding.
“You could walk a little faster,” Bulgar teased as Baron turned the corner.
“Any faster and he’d fall on his face,” Icar said.
“It’s not every day a Vemdorian bonds with their Blood-mate,” Cull said.
Ignoring them all, Baron snatched open the door and locked it behind him. Dressed in a flowing gold gown with her wild mane loose around her head, Simone stood near the makeshift altar near the front of the room. Baron’s entire line stood behind her. His mouth went dry at the luscious vision in front of him. Moving with single minded focus, he stood in front of her and pulled her into his arms.
She cleared her throat. “I choose you Baron.”
He froze. Pulling away he stared into her gaze.
“As my Blood-mate you have my love, loyalty and heart forever.” Baron repeated the words and caught her tear before it rolled down her cheek.
She cut her arm with the ceremonial knife, a gift from Brevar. In the background his linesmen chanted as he licked the blood from her wound, sealing it as the bond between them lengthened. He bit his arm and offered his blood to her. Smiling, Simone licked his arm, taking a part of him into herself, changing her body chemistry to match his healing and longevity abilities. Fire raced up his back as the bond between them strengthened. Eager to mate with her he unsnapped his pants and kicked them off. Simone grabbed his neck, pulled him forward and kissed him. He grabbed her hips, loving the feel beneath his hands as he lifted her. She released his neck, but not his mouth as she spoke against his mouth. “Inside me now.” She pushed her dress out of the way, revealing nothing beneath.
Baron plunged into her tight sheath and shattered into a million pieces. Simone yelled as her forehead fell against his.
“Not fair,” she complained. “It happened too fast. Was that a part of it? Being on fire and then coming as soon as you enter me?”
“Don’t know,” he said releasing her slowly. “We’re the first. The first Bonded Blood-mates.” He placed a kiss on her forehead. “Are you ready to be presented to the others?” Drained and ready to rest he glanced at his sleepy-eyed mate.
“Not right now. That took a lot out of me, hadn’t known about that.” She laid on the platform and rested on her arm.
Baron lifted her and took them to his bedroom, seconds later he lay beside her. “I’ll let them know we’ll be down in a few minutes, or hours,” he said yawning as he pulled up the covers.
“Love you, Blood-mate,” Simone whispered cuddling closer to his chest.
“Love you, Simone,” Baron said as he closed his eyes excited for their future. “Love you, Blood-mate.”
His linesmen watched the two sleep before leaving. “So you think he’ll be mad?” Ian asked.
“Probably,” Marias the Just said. “But we couldn’t have told him what we didn’t know. It wasn’t until they bonded that the One’s plan for Last in Line’s became clear.”
“Well, nothing to do about it now, today we celebrate, tomorrow we fight...” Icar said.
They all agreed and disappeared.
