‘But you do have friends,’ she told him softly. ‘Sally and David, Tom and Fliss, Ben and Meg—they’re deeply loyal to you, you know. As far as Sally’s concerned, you practically walk on water. They’d be gutted if you didn’t think of them as your friends. And, yes, I’d love a really quiet wedding, just our best friends and family, and the children. Maybe all stay together in a little hotel somewhere and have the marriage there, too. Somewhere really intimate. Cosy.’
He shifted slightly so he could reach her lips and kissed her, hardly daring to trust it. He’d been in a wilderness for so long, and now happiness was just within his reach. He searched her face. ‘Sounds wonderful. Are you all right with that?’
She smiled, her eyes warm with love, and he felt his heart ease.
