“Have you picked out your grandmother name yet, Aunt Sally?” Alison asked.

Sally smiled, shaking her head. “I think I’ll just let her call me whatever she wants to call me.”

“Have you decided it’s a girl too?” May asked.

“I’ll go along with whatever you want it to be to help torment Bob.”

Alison frowned. “I can’t help torment Bob. I’m on Team Bob!”

“So am I!” May said. “But it’s our duty as loyal Team Bob members to keep him from getting a swelled head. He’s already well on his way.”

Alison considered that for a moment and then nodded. “Works for me.”

Jay walked into the kitchen then, wrapping his arms around Sally’s waist from behind as she whisked the flour and water for gravy. “How much longer? Bob is starving to death, and football isn’t distracting him any longer.”

Sally smiled, pleased with her world. She loved being married to Jay, and Alison was, despite her normal teenage problems, a good kid. “Give us thirty more minutes.” She knew it wouldn’t take that long, and Bob would be happy when it was done sooner.

“Tell him that since I’m not getting tacos for Thanksgiving, he can just hold his horses!” May said, wrinkling her nose.

Sally sighed. “Would you really have eaten tacos for Thanksgiving?”

“Do pigs turn into delicious bacon? Of course I would have!” May shook her head. “I have taco meat in the Crock-Pot, and I’ll have tacos for supper tonight.”

“I’ll send lots of leftovers home with Bob so he doesn’t have to eat your food.”

  “You’re spoiling him,” May protested.

“You’re killing him with tacos!” Alison responded. “Bob needs real food, not tacos twenty-four seven! That baby really is going to be born with cheese for hair. What is your problem?”

Sally laughed. It was the first time Alison had treated May like she was a normal person and not someone famous. It made her feel like Alison was settling in better. “She has a point, May.”

Jay kissed Sally’s cheek. “I’ll just go tell Bob that it’ll be thirty more minutes, and promise him leftovers for dinner tonight.”

“If he asks you to call him King Bob, tell him he’s just the court jester!” May called after her uncle.

Sally exchanged a look with Alison, and they both burst out laughing. “I don’t know which of them has more issues, Bob or May!”

“I think it’s a tie, but that’s okay, because they’re both family.” Alison grinned. “If you’d told me four months ago that I’d be able to smile on my first Thanksgiving without my parents, I’d have called you a liar. But I can. Thanks for making me part of your family.”

Sally set down the whisk she was using and hugged Alison. “I married Jay because I loved him so much. You were a huge bonus.”

  Alison smiled. “Happy Thanksgiving!”
