He held up a white cotton undershirt. “Hands up,” he said just before he pulled the material down over her head in one quick motion. Meg put both arms through the sleeves on either side; when her head popped through the neck she was greeted by a kiss on the top of her head. He wrapped his warm hands around her waist and pulled his upper body back a little to take a glimpse at her. Gently, he swiped the pad of his thumb across her bottom lip and he appeared to be lost in a daze for a few seconds while he continued to stare at her mouth. “Come on. Let’s go before I throw you back on the bed and fuck you silly,” he said teasingly. Passion took over his facial expression. The same hunger lingered in his eyes as it had just moments before. Drake pulled her toward him and tucked her into his side just before they walked out of the bedroom toward the kitchen.
Chapter 3
Meg walked out of the bedroom sporting one of Drake’s undershirts and nothing underneath. Filled with contentment, she wore a girly grin from ear to ear. After being swept off her feet so quickly when she arrived, she hadn’t gotten a chance to take a look at the beauty of the hotel room with the exception of the bedroom.
Meg guessed the suite must be at least twelve hundred square feet. The living room was quite large and the kitchen an average size. Wow, amazing. No wonder he doesn’t mind traveling around the world. He stays at these great luxurious hotels that are larger than my condo, for Christ’s sake. The room was extraordinarily beautiful. Fresh white calla lilies were scattered throughout with a hint of greenery peeking out over the tall over sized vases. The room was nicely accented with beautiful framed artwork and hardwood flooring. Modern tumble marble covered the kitchenette with a matching back splash.
The table was set up perfectly for two. Drake lit two long ivory candles situated perfectly in the middle of the table, adding elegance to the room and casting a warm shadow along the wall. The tablecloth looked thick and heavy, a shiny silk material that draped low to the floor. He reached over and turned the switch providing them with a little more light. He turned the dimmer down low, making the dining area a perfect romantic setting.
Meg wanted time to stand still forever, to live and relive this moment over and over again. Everything was perfect. This man, this moment, the room, everything about this evening was intoxicating. Out of curiosity, she lifted the silver cover. Her stomach growled with hunger from the smell of food. A wide smile crossed her face when she saw what was laid out on the plate in front of her. Clearly, the man standing next to her worked out on a daily basis and carefully watched his carb intake. She guessed he ate salad with every meal. Meg was a little shocked to see he’d ordered hamburgers and fries!
“Mmm, you are clearly a man after my own heart,” she laughed in his direction and shook her head in disbelief. “You are full of surprises, Mr. Noble. Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I had a hamburger?” Rubbing both hands together in preparation for the well-needed greasy food, she continued. “It smells delicious. I’ll have to thank you later.” she said and gave him a sexy smile. “I truly don’t recall the last time I had a hamburger. Mmm…greasy food and hot sex, what more could a woman ask for, I feel spoiled,” she taunted him.
He laughed. “Well, I hope you like your hamburgers cold,” he said, with a grin. “This has been sitting here for about two hours. As for the sex, I like it hot.” He extended his hand, “Here, give me your plate.” He made a beeline for the kitchen straight to the microwave to warm up their dinner.
“You know, Drake, I had you pegged for some health freak. You actually eat this stuff?”
He threw a grin in her direction, “Only on special occasions.” With that same boyish grin, he continued. “This evening I wanted something we could wolf down rather quickly. What can I say? I was dying to get into your pants.” Oh, that sexy smile of his.
They laughed throughout dinner and ate everything up; both of them were famished. His face grew serious when he looked across the table at her again. “Meggie, we should talk about what happened.”
“Yeah, I agree. Sarah called me last night and told me that John paid you an unexpected visit last week. I can’t believe he did that and that he implied I was sleeping with him!” She wasn’t sure what else to say, but she wanted to know exactly what he was thinking. She worried he might think she was still hung up on John. She fully intended to make it very clear to him that there was no chance of them being together, that it was a long time ago. Meg never expected John to go through such great lengths to ensure she didn’t see Drake again. It was so out of character for him.
“I wish you would have called me and asked me to tell you the truth, but you simply shut me out. I was so hurt when you didn’t call for two days, but then you sent me that text and you gave me hope and I thought everything was okay.” Staring down at her hands clasped tightly together on her lap, she continued. “And then there was that letter the following day, telling me there was no need for me to stay in New York any longer. My heart dropped, and I knew it was over between us before it even got started, but I had no idea why.” He watched her intently and hung on to her every word before responding.
“Meggie, when I left on that business trip, it damn near killed me to leave you after meeting him at the nightclub. I know he was part of your past, and I truly wanted to believe that. But the thing is, I watched you looking at him that night; it was obvious to me that you felt something toward him. Then when you saw that girl approach him inside the club, you were jealous. You can’t deny it. When I left you at Sarah’s later that night, I wanted to go back and take you home with me. I thought for sure I’d lost you to him. But I told myself not to give up and planned to see you the moment I returned. I wanted to know where we stood. After Lake showed up at my office, I wrote that letter to you. I told you there was no need for you to stay in New York for my own selfish reasons. I didn’t want you anywhere near him, if I couldn’t have you to myself. I certainly had no intentions of making it any easier for that bastard. Maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but I had to. I was pissed and hell bent on getting you as far away from him as possible.”
Drake spoke in a quiet manner, making his points clear. He was looking for an explanation and he wanted assurances that the past was the past and that John was in no way a part of her future.
Meg cleared her throat. “Seeing him again bought back so many memories, some good and some bad. Old feelings resurfaced when I saw him after all that time. I admit that seeing him with another woman bothered me a little, for reasons I can’t explain, but I’m not in love with him. He doesn’t have any type of hold on me. And after what he just pulled, quite frankly, I feel nothing more than anger toward him. He had no right to go see you that day. He was wrong in what he did, he lied and I will never forgive him for that. He didn’t come back to Sarah’s after that night. In fact, he didn’t show up until two days later. He told me he was with that woman and then said she meant nothing to him.”
Meg closed her eyes at the memory of her conversation with John and then continued on. “I was disappointed that he would use someone in that way. The woman obviously had feelings for him and will clearly end up hurt. But she’s not the reason I choose not to be with him. The real problem wasn’t so much my feelings for him, Drake. I wasn’t at all confused over who I wanted to be with. I spent those two days thinking only of you. I missed you, I missed your touch, I missed your voice, and I thought about us. I relived every moment of that evening with you over and over in my head. What I’m trying to say is, I’m here, with you, which is exactly where I want to be. John is someone from my past. He’s not part of my future, Drake, and I have no regrets.”
Meg stopped talking and her insecurities took over. She knew she had developed strong feelings for Drake, but it was far too early for her to admit she was falling for him. She wanted him to know she wasn’t interested in a quick fling, she wanted more. But she hesitated in saying anything just yet.
Slowly, she walked over to where Drake sat in the chair across the tabl
e from her and moved to stand before him. She wiggled her way into the open space between his thighs and cradled his face in both hands before speaking in a soft tone. “What I felt for John Lake doesn’t come close to what I feel for you. I don’t want him the same way I want you.” Her hand trembled slightly when she caressed his mouth with the tips of her fingers. “I can’t stop thinking about you, Drake Noble.”
Drake wrapped his arms securely around her tiny waist and held her close. His hands wandered lower under the shirt, his shirt. I’m never washing that shirt again. He would take it with him and breathe in her scent every night that he was away from her. He grabbed the cheeks of her ass and squeezed. He smoothed over the delicate soft skin before settling at her waist again. He loved the feel of her under his hands. He had to stop himself. He couldn’t think clearly if he continued to touch her. The only thing he could think about now was sinking his hard cock deep inside her.
He took a deep breath and his gaze fell on her sensual mouth. God, I love that mouth. He cleared his throat. “I’m glad you’re telling me this. After Lake came to see me at the office that day, I thought what I was feeling might have been one-sided. Hell, I even thought maybe you were using me to seal the business deal for your boss, which in hindsight made no sense because you knew I wanted to make that purchase. There was no need for you to sell me on why I should enter into that investment. But I was at a loss as to why you would have done what you did, so I figured it was money that you might be after. When he said you were sleeping with him, I saw red, Meggie. I was hurt and I was pissed as hell at you. I thought I could be the better man and walk away, but you were in my head in a bad way. I don’t understand this connection between us yet, but this past week has been the worst week of my fucking life. I couldn’t focus no matter how hard I tried. I was angry and bitter and no one wanted to be in the same room with me. Hell, I didn’t blame them, I was being an ass. I picked up the phone several times to call you but I somehow managed to stop myself.”
A frown appeared across Drake’s face. “I have to give the guy credit though. He came back with your friend Sarah. I don’t think you know that, do you?”
Keeping her promise to Matt, she remained quiet and pretended she knew nothing of the sort. She gave him a puzzled look and combed her fingers through his hair, enjoying the feel of his thick satiny curls as they slipped through her fingers.
“Your friend Sarah came storming in to my office bright and early this morning, determined to give me a piece of her mind. She had Lake with her but he remained outside my office door the entire time, lucky for him after what she told me. Although I was relieved, I was still pissed at that son of a bitch. Sarah told me the truth...that Lake lied to me about the two of you sleeping together. She said you were hurt that I wrote you off the way I did and who the hell did I think I was treating her best friend like that.” Drake chuckled softly, but Meg heard the painful regret in his voice. “I knew she wasn’t lying to me when her anger and frustration matched my own. She said you were upset and too stubborn to call me. I told her I was the stubborn one, that I made the mistake of shutting you out and not confronting you about any of this. I also told her I would do everything I could to fix it. I thanked her for taking the time to see me to make this right. After she left, I went to the airport and came straight here. I had to find you, and I had to see you, Meggie.”
“You have no idea how happy I am that you came here, Drake. I was going out of my mind thinking about you. I am so mad at Lake for what he’s done, and I will never forgive him for betraying me.”
“I don’t think I have to worry about him anymore, do I?” His right eyebrow rose in question and he waited for her response.
Meg straddled him in the chair and kissed him gingerly on the mouth. “You have nothing to worry about when it comes to him, I can promise you that. Now come on, let’s clean up this mess and have wild make-up sex.” She gave him a wicked sexy grin, and Drake covered her mouth with his again. He stroked his tongue across her sensual lower lip and made his way inside her sweet mouth. He knew in that moment he was a goner, that he would never let her go again.
“Hmmm, I like the sound of that,” he managed, once he got his senses back. He wanted her in the worst way possible. His dick throbbed to be inside her. He couldn’t wait much longer. Drake picked her up and stood her on her feet and turned her toward the kitchen. He smacked her firmly on the ass. To Meg’s surprise, as quickly as the sting wore off she felt a gush of moisture spill between her thighs and she’d be damned if that didn’t leave her wanting more.
After clearing the leftovers and removing the dishes from the table, they settled down on the big cushioned white couch with a nice glass of the red wine Drake had ordered earlier with dinner. They settled their glasses on the coffee table, and he took a seat with his back against the arm of the couch and stretched out his long legs before dropping one to the floor. He patted the empty spot in front of him and motioned for Meg to sit between his thighs. He gathered the material from the robe he was wearing to that nice firm bulge that sat at his crotch. He was naked underneath. Meg noticed his underwear still in a pile on the floor of the bedroom somewhere next to hers. She took a seat between his legs and leaned back into his chest. They shuffled around a little before getting comfortable and settling into one another. “Um, a perfect fit,” he said and hugged her close to his chest. “Can you tell me something?”
“Anything, what is it?” she asked curiously.
“Have you ever been in a serious relationship before?”
She didn’t see that coming and wished he would have asked her something far less complicated. Meg felt his strong hold as he wrapped his arms around her torso, just below her breasts. Gently, he moved her hair off her shoulder and to the side with his mouth. With her neck fully exposed to him, he kissed her softly. She shivered and moaned at the sensation. Her body reacting immediately to his warm breath, he had such a hold on her. Meg relaxed into his touch and she ached for him to be inside her again.
She hesitated for far too long before answering. “I’ve never been in a serious relationship before.”
“Really?” He was surprised. Meg was an attractive and desirable woman, sexy as hell and a sharp mind for business. Why in the world she hadn’t had sex before now was a complete mystery to him. But there was no denying how happy he was to be her first. He would enjoy introducing her to sex, and she could explore his body any time. He would never hurt her. He found himself hoping to God that she would never get tired of waiting for him when he was away on business, when work would take him away for weeks at a time.
“Why does that surprise you?” Meg tried to make light of the fact that she never had a meaningful relationship with anyone, not in all her twenty-six years. Mindlessly, she stroked his arm, enjoying the very feel of him under her fingertips.
“Well, it’s a little difficult for me to swallow. I mean, just look at you! I can’t believe no one’s tried to sweep you off your feet yet. You’re perfect, Meggie Malone, in every way one could imagine. You are the most desirable woman that I have ever met. And I am completely and utterly intrigued by you. But I have to admit, I’m grateful that you’re not in someone else’s arms right now, and that you’re here with me.” He kissed her neck again and squeezed her to him.
“Me too; I’m happy I met you. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been on dates, but no one’s really held my interest. I never met anyone I was attracted to enough to consider anything long term. Well, that and the fact that I’ve been busy. Between studies and working part time during my university years, I had far too much on my plate. After that, I don’t know, I guess I never really made the time to get close to anyone. Before I knew it, I was finished university and working full time and putting in crazy hours at the office. How about you?” she nudged him. “Have you had any serious relationships?”
“I’ve dated, had my fill of women, but never in a relationship that lasted more than three months. That one turned out to be a disaster
. I never settled anywhere long enough or felt the desire to continue a relationship. I travel a lot for business, and I guess I haven’t met the right woman yet.” he said just before he leaned forward and nuzzled her ear. His breath was warm, and Meg quivered at the sensation. If he keeps doing that, I am going to jump him.
Drake’s hands moved to the hem of her T-shirt and slowly he worked his way inside. He caressed her skin as his hands worked their way upward where he cupped her breasts and gently massaged. He pinched and tweaked her nipples into tight peaks. Meg enjoyed the feel of his hands as they caressed her heavy globes. She allowed her body weight to fall back on his chest. His full erection strained forward against the lower part of her back, making his message loud and clear. He was ready for more, and she welcomed his touch.
Soft kisses rained across the top of her shoulders, he tilted her head back so their lips connected and he took her mouth. When their lips parted, she turned over and straddled his legs and caught a glimpse of his full erection. Meg decided now was as good a time as any for her to be more adventurous. She reached down and filled her hands with his hard length and stroked him suggestively. She lingered on the bold purple head and rubbed her thumb over the tip where clear liquid settled. She gripped him in a tight hold and moved the liquid down his shaft and up again. The skin pulled together tightly from his erection, the feel was smooth and silky yet hard as steel. She moved back enough to straddle him just above his knees. She had no idea how to do this, but she was determined. How difficult can this be? I can do this. The need to taste him was overwhelming. After the pleasure he’d given her with that wicked mouth of his, she wanted to reciprocate. Meg steadied herself and met his gaze, he looked completely mesmerized and that gave her the encouragement she needed to continue. His eyes glossed over, heavy lidded he waited for her to take him in her mouth. Meg leaned down further and grasped the base of his erection firmly. With her other hand, she cupped his balls and carefully massaged. A drop of clear fluid resurfaced again, and Meg gathered it up with her thumb and moved her hand to her mouth where she eagerly sucked back the taste of him.
