Surprised by his response, I sucked in my breath . “No. Are you serious?”

  He snorted. “I wish I wasn’t.”

“When did you learn about them having an affair?” I asked, now feeling sorry for him. I could tell that he was being sincere. There was nothing fake about the pain in his eyes. It was real.

“I’ve known about it for only a couple of days.”

  “Have you confronted her?”

“No. Not yet. She’s been away on business.”

  “What about your brother?”

“He’s away on business.” He grunted. “With her.”

“You must be so angry at the both of them,” I said, shocked at how calm he was being. When I cheated on Trevor, he’d punched everything but me and even that had taken a lot of restraint.

“I am but the truth is, we’d been having problems in our marriage before she started messing with my brother.”

  “Really?”

“Yeah. I wanted to have a baby and she thinks that kids are a waste of time and money.”

  “Wow.”

“Yeah. Wow. Anyway, things went from bad to worse right after my mother died.”

I put a hand to my heart. “Your mother died, too? I’m so sorry for your loss. You’ve really had a horrible time of it, haven’t you?”

“It’s been tough,” he said, staring past me at the liquor bottles behind the bar. “After she died, my wife started spending a lot of time with my brother, who seemed to be taking Mom’s death harder than any of us. They’d been closer, though. I get it. Anyway, I thought it was odd that my brother and Cara were spending so much time together. I had no idea that they were fucking, though. Talk about a slap in the face.”

“That’s horrible,” I agreed. “I just can’t believe she did that to you. Or, your brother for that matter. How could they?”

“I know. I’m still trying to come to grips with everything. What really goads me is that my brother and I are twins. We used to be so close and now this. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

I stared at him in shock. “He’s your twin?!”

  Jake nodded.

I reached over and laid my hand over his. “I’m sorry to hear about your wife and brother. You’re good looking and seem very sweet. I’m sure you’ll meet someone else. Someone who appreciates you.”

“I hope so. I’ve been so lonely these past few months. And,” he looked embarrassed. “This may sound pathetic, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen a naked woman. It’s why I chose this place for a drink.”

“You poor guy. Here,” I said, grabbing the bottle of rum. I began pouring him another drink. If anyone needed to get wasted, it was him. “Have one on me.”

He smiled warmly. “You’re a breath of fresh air, Brandy. I haven’t had a woman treat me so nicely in quite a while. Especially one so beautiful.”

My cheeks grew warm. It was nice getting a compliment from a good-looking man. Especially one who stared at me with appreciation. Trevor now only looked at me because he had no other choice. Of course, I understood why he was pissed at me. I’d fucked up by cheating on him. As far as I was concerned, however, I deserved a second chance. He was being so damn stubborn.

“You’re so sweet,” I said straightening up. Wanting to make him feel better, I tossed my blonde hair over my shoulder and looked him square in the eye. “Your wife has really fucked up.”

“Thanks. I like to think so, too.”

Misty and Trevor stepped back to the bar.

“You need anything else?” asked Trevor, setting down two more cases of beer.

“Actually,” replied Misty. “I hate to ask this of you, but we’re running low on glasses and the busboy called in sick about an hour ago. Since we’re so short-staffed, maybe you could help us out by doing some of them?”

Trevor nodded toward me. “Have her do some dishes. She’s the one getting paid to work here.”

Misty shook her head. “She needs to help me tend the bar.”

Before he could protest, the front door opened up and four guys walked in.

“See, we have more customers and Happy Hour should be starting soon. Just help us out and wash a few glasses, please?” asked Misty.

Trevor sighed. “Fine. I’ll do some.” He grabbed his leather jacket and headed toward the kitchen.

  “Thanks, Raptor,” Misty hollered.

He raised his thumb and disappeared into the back.

“Raptor, huh?” asked Jake. “Is that his Road name?”

I nodded, surprised that he knew the term. “He’s part of the Gold Vipers Motorcycle Club.”

“Huh,” he replied, staring toward the kitchen.

“You’ve obviously heard of them,” I said, watching as Misty walked over to the table of newcomers.

He nodded. “I’m a lawyer. I’ve definitely heard of the name.”

My eyes widened. Lawyers intrigued me. “You’re a lawyer? That’s so cool.”

Jake smiled in amusement. “I’m a Defense Attorney,” he said, handing me his business card. “It’s not always as cool as you’d think.”

I stared down at it. “I don’t know. I think that’s so impressive. That you’re a lawyer. You must have gone to school for a long time.”

“It took a while,” he said, removing his suit jacket and placing it on the back of the stool. “But, well worth it.”

I slipped his card into my apron and watched as he loosened his tie. Besides being successful and cute, he had broad shoulders and a narrow waist. In all accounts, he was yummy.

“So, when do you get off of work?” he asked, noticing that I was staring at him.

“In four more hours,” I replied, surprised that he was asking. “Why?”

“I was just wondering if you’d be interested in joining me for dinner.”

  I smiled. “I… I don’t know.”

“It’s just dinner,” he said, giving me another dimpled grin. “I suppose you have a boyfriend? A beautiful woman like you usually does.”

  “I don’t, actually,” I replied softly.

  “That’s a relief. I was hoping you’d say that.”

“I can’t go to dinner with you, though.”

  “Why?”

I looked back toward the kitchen. As tempting as it was to go out with Jake, I still wanted Trevor back and if he found out about it, that would put even more distance between us.

  “I just can’t.”

  Jake looked wounded. “Okay.”

“Not that I don’t want to,” I said, smiling at him. “Believe me, I do. I just… I have some issues in my life that need to be resolved before I can decide to do something like that.”

“I understand. Issues are my middle name, right now.” He finished his drink and stood up. “I’ll be right back. Where is the men’s room?”

“It’s over there,” I said, pointing. “Down that hallway and to the left.”

  “Thanks.”

I watched him go and felt like such a heel. He seemed like a nice guy and could probably use some female companionship. Especially since his wife and brother had screwed him over like that. If that wasn’t bad enough, he’d made it pretty clear that he hadn’t had sex in a while and it seemed like such a waste. Hell, I hadn’t had sex in a while and that was bad enough.

A wicked thought flitted through my head and my sex twitched in excitement.

I bet we could help each other out, I thought, imagining us fucking in one of the back offices or even the alleyway. I pictured his hands all over my body as he impaled me with whatever was hiding under his trousers and I could feel my panties get wet.

“Fuck it,” I mumbled, deciding to throw caution to the wind and go for it. I was tired of my vibrator and needed a real man to give me what I needed. Something told me that Jake would definitely give it to me and without any strings attached.

I turned to Misty, who was back at the bar. I touched my temple and winced. “Hey, um, I know you need me but would you mind if I took a quic
k break? I’ve got this splitting headache and I think that if I take a couple of pills and just chilled out for a while, I’ll feel much better.”

“No problem. I can handle it,” said Misty, her eyes sympathetic. “Go ahead and get away for a few minutes. The music probably isn’t helping your headache.”

“No, it’s not. Thanks. I’ll be back soon.”

  “Okay.”

I walked away from the bar and turned the corner, to stand next to the men’s bathroom. When Jake stepped out, he stopped abruptly. “Are you waiting for me?” he asked, pleasantly surprised.

“Yeah, actually I am. I have this problem and I think that you might be able to help me out with it,” I said, grabbing his hand.

“A problem?” he answered, looking unsure as she dragged him toward Slammer’s office. “What sort of problem?”

I opened the door and pulled him inside. Then I locked it and turned around. “I guess that you could say it’s the same one that you’re having right now, too.”

He looked confused. “You’ve lost me. What kind of a problem am I having?”

I grabbed him by the belt and pulled him toward me. “You need to get laid. So do I.”

His eyes widened at the touch of my hand on his crotch, which was now as hard as a rock.

“That feels nice. We don’t have much time,” I whispered, unbuckling his pants. I stopped abruptly and looked up at him. “I’m sorry, are you okay with this?”

Jake, who was staring at me in wonder, pulled me into his arms. “That’s an understatement,” he said, before crushing his lips against mine.

Three minutes later, Jake had me bent over Slammer’s desk.

“Do it harder,” I demanded, looking at him over my shoulder. “Fuck me harder.”

Jake increased his thrusts and I gasped in pleasure as he hit my G-spot. Getting fucked in Slammer’s office by a stranger with a big cock, was so exciting that I came within seconds.

“Yes,” I growled, clenching my teeth together as he kept going. After a few more thrusts, he gasped in pleasure and pulled out of me, squirting his seed all over my back.

“Fuck,” he whispered, wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. “Did that just happen?”

“I know, right?” I whispered, turning around to look at him. “I just wish we had more time to go again.”

“Yeah, me too. Sorry, I couldn’t last. Like I said, it’s been a while and you’re so damn sexy.” He grabbed a couple of tissues from Slammer’s desk and began wiping my back off with them. “So, who’s Trevor?”

“What do you mean?” I asked, feeling my cheeks turn red.

  “You said his name once.”

I’d noticed it too but had hoped he’d missed it. “I’m sorry. It’s my ex, but, I swear, it was a reflex,” I lied. “I knew exactly who was fucking me.”

Jake threw the tissues away. “It’s okay. I won’t hold it against you. I’ve got my own issues. You certainly helped me forget them for a while, though.”

“Glad I could help.” The phone inside my apron began to buzz. “Oh, shit,” I said, realizing that I still had Trevor’s phone. I pulled it out and noticed that Tank had been trying to call him. I needed to get his phone back inside of his jacket before he found that it was missing.

  “Everything okay?”

I nodded. “We need to sneak out of here, though. Why don’t you go first?”

He kissed me and then quietly slipped out of the office.

I checked Trevor’s phone again to see if anyone else had tried calling. It was then that I noticed an outgoing call. One that had occurred within the last few minutes.

I covered my mouth. “Oh, my God.”

Apparently, I’d accidently called Adriana during my session with Jake. The call had actually lasted for almost two minutes and I wondered if Adriana had heard anything. If Adriana had she would definitely think that it was Trevor having sex with another woman. It would end their relationship.

Grinning triumphantly, I erased the call, to cover my tracks. Alive with excitement, I snuck out of Slammer’s office and went back to the bar, singing to myself.

“You must be feeling better,” said Misty, pouring a drink for Jake. “Headache gone?”

I nodded quickly. “Yeah. It’s much better. Is Trevor still doing dishes?”

“Raptor? Yeah, I think so,” she answered.

“Okay,” I replied, walking over to where the glasses were kept behind the bar. “I’ll go back and get some. We’re really getting low.”

  “Good idea.”

I went to the kitchen and spotted Trevor by the sink, loading the last of the dirty glasses into the large dishwasher. He had his hair pulled back into a ponytail and wore a black doo rag.

“What’s up?” he asked, glancing at me.

“I’m just checking to see if you have some clean ones ready yet.”

He nodded toward a crate of glasses. “Those are clean.”

“Okay,” I said, noticing his jacket, which was slung over a metal chair, a few feet from the sink. “Oh, do we have any more Bloody Mary mix? I should bring some out.”

“It’s in the cooler,” he said, nodding toward a pair of metal doors.

I laughed nervously. “Could you get it for me? I saw a mouse in there last week. It freaked the hell out of me.”

  “A mouse in the cooler?”

  I nodded.

Sighing, Trevor turned off the water and marched over to the cooler. When he was inside, I quickly rushed over to his jacket and slipped the phone back into one of the pockets. As I was moving away, he walked out of the cooler with two bottles of Clamato. “Will this work?”

“Yeah, thanks,” I replied, as he handed it to me. “I owe you.”

Not answering, Trevor walked back over to the sink and began washing dishes again.

“You okay?” I asked, noticing the way his jaw was set.

He wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. “I’m fine. Misty still out there?”

“Yeah, where else would she be?”

His phone began to ring and I jumped.

“Someone’s a little jittery today,” said Trevor walking over to his jacket. He pulled out his phone and looked at the screen.

  “Who is it?”

“Tank,” he replied and then answered the phone.

I listened as he talked with Tank, my heart pounding wildly in my chest.

“What do you mean you’ve been trying to call me? My phone hasn’t rang in the last half hour,” said Trevor. “Seriously, brother. I haven’t heard it ring.”

Swallowing, I turned around and quickly left the kitchen.

  Chapter Seven

I stared ahead in horror as the sounds of the couple having sex made me want to throw up. I recognized the woman’s voice right away – it was Brandy’s, and the name she’d cried out had gutted me.

  Trevor.

I hung up the phone and threw it across my bedroom, crying. The realization of what was happening seemed to hurt worse than anything I’d encountered in the past. Even the death of my father and best friend seemed to be overshadowed by the heart-wrenching pain I was feeling at the moment.

How could he do this to me?

I crawled into my bed, curled up into a ball, and sobbed. There was no doubt in my mind that Brandy’s baby was Trevor’s and that he’d lied about everything. My mother had been right about him from the very beginning. The man was nothing but a despicable pig and I vowed to never trust anything that came out of his mouth ever again.

  Chapter Eight

“You find anything?” I asked Tank, still wondering why I hadn’t heard my phone go off. After looking at the call log, I’d found he’d been right. He’d definitely tried calling me more than once. I decided to contact my cell phone provider and rip them a new one. Something was obviously wrong and it was usually their fault.

“Yeah. That’s why I’ve been trying to call you. We’ve learned a lot of shit. Get a load of this – M
isty wasn’t only fucking Breaker, but she was his Old Lady.”

  My eyes widened. “What?”

“Yeah. Apparently, they’d hooked up after he got out of prison. We found some emails from her to both Breaker and Mud.”

“Why the fuck was she working for Slammer then?” I said, thinking that Misty was even nuttier than we’d imagined.

“Isn’t it obvious? She’s the rat we’ve been trying to flush out all along. Obviously she was working for us before Breaker died, to get information, and now she’s doing it for revenge. From the sound of her emails to Mud, the woman is looking for vengeance and will do whatever it takes to get it.”

I could hear Misty laughing all the way into the kitchen and it made my blood boil. “You tell Slammer yet?”

“Yeah, he’s pissed off but didn’t seem too surprised by what we’d found.”

  “What do we do now?”

“He said he’s working on it. Just watch yourself around that sneaky whore.”

“Definitely. What about the others? What should we tell them?”

“Nothing. They might fuck everything up if they know what’s going on.”

“Good point.” The others meant well but some of them didn’t handle their liquor too well. If Misty got them drunk enough, she could pry anything out of them.

“I can’t believe that bitch has the audacity to come in here and pull this shit,” I said in a low voice.

“No shit. As far as I’m concerned, she’s just as responsible for Krystal’s death as Mud. She wants vengeance? She’s going to fucking get it. Mine. I’m all in this time, brother. Heads are going to roll.”

“I’m behind you, man. Whatever you and Slammer need me to do, I’m in, too. No questions asked.”

“I appreciate it,” he said and then sighed. “I just hope he comes up with something soon because I don’t know how much longer I can keep my cool. Especially now that we know what’s up.”

“No shit. I’d love to grab her by the hair, drag her out outside, and kick her ass to the curb.”

“I’d like to do more than that,” he mumbled.

“I’m sure you would. You on your way out here now?”
