To Love A Wolf (Wolves of Shadow Falls)
Page 2
“Sam, it's not another woman. I know what you're thinking, I can see it on your face. I love you. I could never do that to you baby.” I pulled her into my arms, feeling her sigh of relief.
“What is it then Cevin? You look so serious.”
Releasing her, I looked back in the mirror. “I know this is going to sound crazy, and I can't even believe I'm going to say this.” I took a deep breath. “Remember that dream I was telling you about?” She nodded. “Well in that dream I had been cut by a claw, or something like a claw, and wide gashes were bleeding...in the same spot as these here.” I pointed to my chest. “How can that be?”
Sam looked between my reflection in the mirror and the marks on my chest. Shaking her head, “I don't know, but where else would they have come from?”
“That's just it. I don't remember doing anything to get them, only the dream. I would remember hurting myself to get something like this.” I was starting to think maybe I was going a bit crazy. Maybe because I had been studying so hard, my brain was just exhausted not remembering what happened. I couldn't shake the feeling that they were from the claw in my dream though. A chill ran through me.
Sam continued to look between me and the scars on my chest. I didn't know what was happening, and suddenly I felt exhausted, like I hadn't slept in a week.
“I don't know, Cevin. We're going to have to worry about it later. You look tired, we should just go to bed. Tomorrow we can go to the library and do some research.” She tugged my hand leading me to the bed. She pulled the covers back and after making sure I was comfortable, she crawled in beside me.
We snuggled, Sam tightly held to my chest. I didn't know why I had those scars, but I felt a sense of dread the more I thought about it. I was going to lose Sam, a thought I couldn't shake, and with that being my last thought, I drifted to sleep.
Candles flickered in the room. Once again I was tied to a bed, naked. I watched as a shadow emerged from the darkness, my eyes falling upon luscious lips.
“The full moon will be here in less than a week, Love. I'm sorry to say you won't be able to live your life as you have been.”
“What is happening to me?”
“You've been chosen.”
“Chosen for what?”
“You must be patient, you will understand soon enough.” She walked closer to the bed, running her hand up my thigh. Her fingers glided along my leg, then twirled in my hairs before stroking my cock. “Yes. Soon enough.”
I opened my mouth to speak, only to be cut off when she slid those luscious lips down my shaft. Gasping, my cock expanded in her mouth. Her tongue made tiny circles as I jerked in response. Toes curling, a growl erupted. I was close to an orgasm that I wasn't prepared to release just yet.
“Cevin. Wake up.”
I opened my eyes and felt an orgasm erupt from the end of my cock. “Dammit.”
“Must have been a good dream. You were moaning and jacking off.” She giggled.
What the hell was happening to me? Ignoring Sam's laugh I headed for the shower to clean up. This can't be good, not good at all. I tried to let my head clear with the hot water spraying over me. Something was happening and I had another strong feeling that I was going to lose Sam. I couldn't lose her, we had plans. Plans we've been making our entire lives.
S
omething was happening to me and I had no idea what. I had to figure it out and my best bet would be to look in the library. After walking Sam to her class, I sat in front of the computer turning it on. Clicking on Google, I typed in Wolves again. I searched through some basic information and found nothing I didn’t already know. I typed in Wolves and full moons and the first thing to catch my attention was werewolves. I clicked open the link and started reading through it.
The werewolf pack consists of an Alpha Male and Alpha Female. Whe the Alphas are not around, second in command are considered Betas. The rest of the pack will always seek the guidance of their Alphas. Alphas become mates when the male is just reaching adulthood. He will seek his female mate, picking the strongest in the pack that would be best suited to rule. Once mated, they will remain together for life. If one dies, the other is free to choose their new Alpha to become mated again. It would be the widowers choice, but they must choose wisely. If ever an Alpha is beat in battle, the winner may choose to rein as new Alpha, the old Alpha becoming a Beta. It is the Alphas duty to protect the pack and set rules and boundaries as if they were all their children.
I heard footsteps behind me and turned when someone cleared their throat. “Dude, you know that Sierra is an expert on the supernatural right?”
Justin was a fellow student in my Bio-Chemistry class. Sierra, that he referred to, was the weird hippy girl that wandered around campus, passing out Peace fliers, preaching that we should make love not war, and everyone knew who she was.
“I’ve heard that.” I nodded.
“You should go see her if you’re interested in werewolves man. She probably can tell you what you need. You doing a research paper or something?”
“Um..yeah. It’s for my Lit class.”
“Cool man. Go see her. She probably has all you need to get an A.”
“Thanks Justin.” I smiled returning my attention to the computer screen.
Sierra huh? Probably should go see what she has to say. Checking my watch, I packed my things up and headed for the campus park where she was usually sprawled out on the grass sucking down sun tea.
Sitting under a tree atop a blanket, I looked at Sierra, second guessing myself. Did I really need to talk to her? I slowly walked towards her, feeling like I was walking into a foreign war zone. The sun beat down, causing sweat to form under my arms and across my brow. Tossing my sunglasses on, I continued walking, pausing every few seconds wondering if this would be a waste of time. Edging closer, I could see she was reading a book through John Lennon type glasses. She grabbed for her tea and I turned to walk away, forgetting it all, only inches from where she sat.
“I’ve been expecting you.” She said it without looking up from her book.
I stopped, looking around thinking, hoping, maybe she was talking to someone else.
“Cevin, is it?”
I turned to face serious eyes looking through blue lenses, as she looked directly at me. I cleared my throat, nodding in agreement.
“Come. Sit.” She placed a bookmark inside the pages and set it aside. “I have been expecting you.” She said again.
“Expecting me?” I sat on the edge of her blanket.
“Yes. I knew you would be coming. Sooner or later.”
She donned a long flowing skirt made of thin material, a tank top covered by a wool shawl and thin strapped sandals on her feet. Her hair was a mass of dark brown dread locks, beads randomly placed throughout, and I found myself wondering if anything might be living within it. “How did you know I’d be coming?”
“That is neither here nor there. I just knew, and that explanation can be left for another time.” She looked me over, sizing me up like she was seeing if she could take me should I try to assault her. “You’ve had the dream.” She wasn’t asking a question and said it matter-of-fact like.
I stared at her with a deer in the headlights look. How could she possibly know this? Did Sam already come to see her?
“Relax, Cevin. I’m not going to cast any spells on you or put a voodoo hex on you. You’ve been dreaming, and even though we are not friends, we are connected. The stars have been out of alignment since the Wolf Moon. I knew it was coming.”
“What was coming?”
“Tell me of your dream.” She waited without answering my question. I told her of my dream, and she pressed for more information. I told her of the blood red silk sheets, candles, the claw and scars on my chest. I told her that the woman in my dream told me I was “Chosen”. Unable to stop myself, I told her every single detail of my dreams. As much as I tried to keep the words from coming, they just kept pouring out the more she asked questions.
“I
see.” She pulled out some cards and lay them out between us.
“You see? How can you see? It’s freaking me out and I don’t know how to explain any of it. Why do I keep dreaming of this same woman? What the hell does “Chosen” mean?” I had so many questions that I was firing at her, she didn’t even seem affected when my voice became an octave higher.
She started flipping cards over, mulling over the pictures that were on them. When I tried to speak she held her hand for me to stop. So I waited. After every card she had laid out was facing up, she slowly looked up to me and the look in her eye had me holding my breath.
“Cevin. You must listen to me very carefully.” She waited for me to respond.
“Okay?”
“The full moon is coming on Halloween night.”
“Tell me something I don’t know Sierra.” I huffed.
“Uh uh. Let me finish.” She looked at me sternly, holding her hand out in a talk-to-the-hand gesture. “During the full moon, the female Alpha can choose her mate.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“There is legend that a wolf pack lives here in Shadow Falls. Most believe it’s just that, a legend, but it is much more than legend. Many years ago, my great grandfather was walking his land when he heard howling. He thought it was odd that wolves would be so close to mankind, so he followed the howling to an open clearing in the woods. He witnessed the transformation of human to wolf, and followed the pack, learning their ways as he documented it all. His journals I’ve not personally seen, but my family talks of this legend as if they were all there to witness it.”
I started laughing. “You really want me to believe that there is actual werewolves here?”
“Not werewolves, Cevin. Werewolves are of myth and legend. These are humans that can turn into wolves.”
I looked at her dumbfounded. “You’re serious?”
She smiled. “Yes.”
“It seems that you have been chosen to become the next Alpha. I don’t know what happened to the current one, but you’re next in line. You’ve been marked.”
“Marked? The scratches on my chest?”
“Yes. Once the full moon is at it’s peak, you will change, Cevin. You will transform into the wolf and you will lead the pack next to your new mate.”
I left it sink in for a minute before the panic struck. “My new mate? Oh my God! I can’t do this. I don’t want to do this. What about Sam? Is there a way to change it, for her to pick a new mate? Can't you cast any spells on this wolfpack and have them pick someone else?”
For a split second I saw the sympathy flash in her eyes. “You must die to be released. If you refuse to lead and stand next to your mate as new Alpha, the pack will kill you.”
“Why me?”
“The cards tell me you have a connection to this pack from long ago. Maybe a family member, maybe a past life. That I cannot be for certain, but you have a connection.”
“What about Sam? My life here? What about becoming a Doctor?”
“Your life is going to change, Cevin. You will not be able to be with Sam anymore, you will have to lead the pack. On the night of the full moon, you will go through the transformation, you will seal the deal by mating your Queen, and you will lead the pack as if you’ve always been their leader. In time, this life as you now know it, will become a distant memory.”
Covering my face with my hands, I felt the urge to cry. How could this be happening to me? I felt Sierra touch my arm, and when I looked up she placed a blue stone in my hand.
“For protection. Let the stone guide you.”
I turned it over and over in my hand. It warmed to my touch, and I felt like a warm blanket enveloped me.
“Now go. There is much for you to do.” She picked her book back up and opened it from where the bookmark was. She rolled to her stomach and read, ignoring my presence.
I grabbed my bag and headed to Sam’s last class to walk her home. What the hell was I going to tell her? How could I just leave her behind? I had no idea what I was going to do, and if there was a way out of this, I was going to find it.
“
You are being awfully quiet tonight, Cevin. Something happen today?” Sam was cooking supper. When I didn’t answer right away, she walked over and touched my shoulder.
Startled, I looked up at her. “Hmm?”
“What’s going on? You haven’t spoken a word since you came to pick me up.”
“Oh. Just a lot on my mind, Sam.”
“The dreams? Cevin, it’s not unheard of to dream about sex, or other women for that matter. We’ve been together for a long time, it’s okay. I understand.”
“It’s not that, Sam. I’m not fantasizing of another woman. You’re all I want.” I pulled her closer when she sat down next to me, kissing the top of her head. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Cevin.”
I tried letting it go, not wanting to cause Sam any more worry. We ate dinner and watched a movie before Sam went to the bedroom to study, often using that area for peace and quiet to concentrate. I took this chance to look up some family history on my laptop. I had grown up in a happy home, and just couldn’t see a connection to any wolves. My mother and father were both attentive, coming to all my sports games, letting me take guitar lessons, participating in every fundraiser at school, and active on the school board. Nothing funky ever happened and nothing mysterious was ever talked about.
After an hour of not finding anything on the computer, I went to our closet and pulled the box that held my baby photos and family albums. I started looking at the pictures, smiling as the memories flooded my mind with each one. As I got more towards my toddler years, I noticed there was a man in the background, one I hadn’t noticed before. He was in every birthday picture, every family event, standing practically unnoticed, near the woods. Who is that? Looking at my watch, I knew it was too late to call my mom, so I put the album to the side and would wait until tomorrow. It was time I went to see her anyways. I’ve been so busy with finals, I’ve ignored her for weeks.
Calling it quits I joined Sam in the bedroom. “Ready for bed?”
“I think I am. I don’t think I can get one more piece of information into my brain anyways.” She smiled putting her things back into her bag.
After brushing my teeth and a quick shower, I crawled in next to her, her warm skin comforting. She leaned up to kiss me before turning the lights off and curling into my chest. I rubbed my hand up and down her arm, and within minutes her breathing became slower, soft snores filling the air. I breathed in her scent, wanting to always remember it. It didn’t take long for me to fall into darkness.
“Hello my love. It’s almost time.” I shivered at the sound of her melodic voice. She ran her hand across my chest, fingering the scars from the scratches she’d placed there. Twirling her fingers in my chest hairs, she leaned forward to place soft, warm kisses upon my skin.
“Why am I chosen?”
“You will make the perfect mate, Love. Be patient. In time you will understand. You will enjoy leading us.”
I could not see her face fully in the dim light of the room, but I couldn’t deny that I felt drawn to her. My body responded to her as if I’ve known her all my life. I pulled her closer to me, and she moved those kisses up, planting her lips on my own. In my mind I knew it was wrong, but I couldn’t get myself to push her away. I wrapped my fingers in her hair, pulling her lips harder to my own. Parting her lips with my tongue, she obliged, allowing me entrance. I traced the outline of her mouth, licking the backs of her teeth. She responded by gently biting my bottom lip, and I felt my cock thicken.
Her taste seemed familiar, her smell tantalizing. In one fluid movement, I flipped her over, pushing my mouth to hers. I felt my manhood growing in length as I wrapped my mouth around those plump breasts. Her breath hitched as I ran my tongue in circles around those hard peaks, gently biting down, then soothing with another lick from my tongue. The more her scent flooded me, the hornier I be
came. Moving my hands down her side, I pushed her leg to the side, finding her folds moistened. Slipping my fingers into her sex, she moaned out in pleasure, arching her back to meet the rhythm of my hand. I heard the growl, and before I knew it I was on my back again, those soft lips of hers wrapping around my cock. Just before she went down on my shaft, she whispered, “Not yet, Love. It’s not time.” Then she sucked me off into oblivion.
T
he next morning Sam didn’t complain about me waking her up, so I assumed I didn’t react to my dream. After dropping Sam off at class, I headed to my mother’s, album in hand.
“Hey Sweetie. How have you been? How are finals coming?”
“I’ve been okay Mom. Finals are coming along fine. I think both Sam and I will be ready for Winter break.”
Mom poured a mug of coffee, kissing my cheek as she set it in front of me. “So, what do I owe the pleasure of my son stopping in today? Something’s on your mind.”
She could always read me like a book. I used to hate it when I was a kid, I could never get away with a white lie. “You know me so well.” I pulled the album out and opened it.
“Your baby album.” She started thumbing through, cooing like a proud mom. “You were such a good baby, Cevin.” She beamed. When she stopped on one of the pictures from my second birthday, I proceeded with what I came to find out.
“Who’s that Mom?”
“Who honey?”
I pointed to the guy in the background. “This guy? He’s in every picture, but always in the background.” I flipped the pages, showing her the guy in every picture, always standing in the background.
She stared at the man in the picture and eventually sucked in a deep breath. “Son of a bitch! It can’t be.”
Her words took me by surprise, she never swears. I looked up at her, eyes wide. “Mom.”
“Sorry honey.” She patted my shoulder walking to grab a picture of her own. Studying the pictures side by side, “That man looks just like my grandfather.”
