“Well, you won me,” she laughed, moving over onto his lap. “The question now is what you are going to do with me?” she continued, stroking his cheek.
“Well the first thing I’m going to do is spank you for this fine set of shenanigans,” he informed her, nibbling on her lip.
“You are?” she breathed against his mouth.
“Most certainly. I’ll wait until we’re closed, of course. I wouldn’t want to embarrass you unduly with all those people downstairs.”
“I appreciate your consideration,” she sighed, sliding her tongue along his lower lip.
“You’re welcome, little woman,” he replied, threading his fingers into her hair and dislodging the pins.
“Is it going to be horrible?” she asked breathlessly.
“I imagine so,” he offered as he unbuttoned two of the buttons on the front of her dress and slipped his fingers inside. “At least as hard as Ethan spanked Martha that night,” he said decisively.
“So I shall cry?”
“Goodness, I hope so or I haven’t done it right,” he declared, stroking her nipple.
“Then I shall be sure to scream my head off,” she panted. “I wouldn’t want you to feel less than a manly man.”
“Thank you.” Lucas smiled and slid his hand under her skirts, zeroing in on the spot between her legs and petting.
“Oh my, if you don’t stop that I may scream now,” Clara moaned.
“It would serve you right.”
“I know, I’ve been a very naughty little woman,” she admitted, before catching his lower lip between her teeth and biting softly before releasing it and soothing it with her tongue. “So it’s been decided. You will spank me hard, right?”
“Exactly,” he replied, feeling for the slit in her drawers.
“And what are you going to do after that’s taken care of?” she whispered, so excited she feared she might fly apart in his arms. He sank a thick finger inside her.
“After that I suppose I’ll have to learn to make tea,” he hissed against her neck.
Clara splintered right there on her husband’s lap, shivering in his arms as he gently nibbled on her neck and slowly brought her back to the real world.
He held her in his arms, stroking her limbs until she opened her eyes.
“I love you, Lucas,” she said with great tenderness.
“I know you do,” he answered, kissing her nose.
“I have to get up and pull myself together. What will people think?” she moaned as she pried herself from his lap.
“Most likely they’ll think I brought you up here to tan your hide.”
“Maybe.”
“And I will, you know,” he reiterated.
“Okay.”
“I mean it, Clara,” he repeated as he took her arm once her hair was back in place and her clothing adjusted.
“I’m sure you do.”
“I’m not kidding, Clara,” he said as he led her down the stairs.
Clara smiled.

A Note from the Author:
I hope you enjoyed this last book in The Marriage Market Series. In the beginning I wanted Hugh to be up to his neck in brides, and I certainly had fun writing all the different women from various parts of the country. As the story unfolded, there were so many personalities I worried, wondering if I could weave them all together and still come out with loveable female characters and admirable men to love them.
Originally Tempest was going to be a shrew, the wicked mother-in-law, but I fell in love with her character as she revealed herself to me. Suzanna was nearly irredeemable at one point and I feared readers would hate her. Personally, I wanted to wring her neck, until she began to tell me her story. Now I adore her and she will forever be one of my favorite characters.
Martha has always been the steady, unflappable one. It was time for her to learn about passion as she has been standing outside the fire for most of the series. She finally finds it in Ethan’s arms and maybe a bit more over his knees.
I’m pleased with how it all turned out. My brides all have their happy endings, and, well, any one of these men could park their boots under my bed, figuratively speaking. They are all strong and dominant in their own way, yet tender and loving. What more could a romance writer ask for?

Hi, I'm Stevie MacFarlane. I live in a small rural community in Upstate NY, and I have been writing off and on for about twenty years in my spare time, although there wasn't much of that with a husband, five children and an assortment of supposedly domesticated pets.
Over the course of my life I have been a waitress, social worker, cook, sewing machine operator and a fine die cutter. I swear I had no idea what I was doing, but apparently the ability to take a wire finer than a strand of hair, sharpen it and feed it through a wire die, was enough for them to keep me on. I also worked for a very short time in a meat packing plant where I got to stand in front of a machine that spit boxes of frozen chicken at me, that was fun!
Then there was the plastic plant I enjoyed for a spell. The heat and smell were bad enough, but the excess hot plastic needed to be pulled off the parts and put into a grinder. I believe they called this byproduct 'spew' or some such thing. I was not quite fast enough to separate the parts and still get the excess into the shredder, (picture Lucy in the chocolate factory) so I just tossed it behind me until they came to break me for lunch. By that time, I had a mountain of twisted plastic taller than me! Needless to say, I just turned in my gear and went home.
So I must say that I enjoy what I'm doing now. Of course, being retired gives me more time to let the characters in my head entertain me and hopefully, you as well. I would love hearing from you at [email protected] and thanks for stopping by.
