A Beginning

The man nodded and smiled at him.
“Thank you, Father. The Lady Cleric communicated a message to me from my brother. I believe everything she has told us and I will do all that is in my power to carry out the instructions Loric gave me with his last breath.”
“Very well, son. I will allow you to carry out your brother’s wishes. Just give me the crystal!”
Korin looked at his Father and swallowed against the tears that threatened his composure.
“Lord Garonne. By the Power vested in me as Heir to the Kingdom of Galivor, I declare my Father, King Koric of Galivor, insane. I therefore declare my intentions to do as my ancestor Kervic did three hundred years ago.”
The Lord Steward nodded.
Korin turned, throwing the crystal onto the flagstones. It shattered and the escaping magic turned the shards to dust. The magic drew the dust upward into the shape of the Tower and Eye symbol, before dispersing.
The magic’s theatrics had drawn the gaze of everyone in the hall and before the guards had time to react, Korin drew his sword and beheaded his father.
The body toppled from the throne. The head bounced down the steps to land with the face upward. The eyes blinked and Korin saw they were entirely gold now.
The lips moved.
“Do you truly think that you can stand against Aracan Katuvana of The Black Tower, Princeling?” the head said in a deep booming voice that echoed around the room.
“As King of Galivor, I stand ready to repel you, Evil One,” Korin answered.
“Then look not to your borders, but to your lands, Princeling. For I shall carpet Galivor with the bodies of the fallen.” The eyes returned to brown and Korin choked back tears. Farewell Father. Farewell Loric. I will save our Kingdom; that I promise you.

“Well, that went better than could be expected, milord!” the Jar chuckled from its stand as Aracan Katuvana returned to his throne. “One dungeon down, but easily replaceable, as long as I…you act quickly. Korin will need time to consolidate his hold upon his kingdom before he carries out Loric’s wishes.”
The Aracan sat down and nodded.
“The four Kingdoms shall be yours once more, death and destruction shall blanket the lands, blood shall run in the waters and evil will breathe air untainted by goodness once more.”
The Aracan Katuvana nodded again and leaned against the throne’s tall back. He stopped moving completely, just the gentle rise and fall of his chest showing that he was still, if he had ever been, alive.
“Sleep well, Lord.” The Jar murmured. “And when you wake I…we shall begin my…our return.”

About the Author
Kira Morgana thought she was a teacher but life decided otherwise.
Living not far from a rift in time and space in a land that has a dragon on its flag, is it any wonder that Kira was inspired to write stories of myths and legend, creating her own worlds and her own legends?
Buoyed by the magic of three children and a loving partner she has created the five stories that make up The Tower And The Eye series of sword and sorcery adventures. Based on her own imagination and love of playing role play games, these stories are the everlasting dilemma of Good versus Evil. We all know which SHOULD win, but does it?
