“He wanted me to explain.”
“Explain what?”
He stood and began to pace the room, arms out at his sides, like an aggressive pedestrian. He looked at Daisy and nodded again. “First of all, you need to know something. Dorian told me you like to read, right? Well, what was it Shakespeare said, something about there being more in heaven and earth than we can see?”
Daisy was half-ashamed, half-proud that she knew the proper quote. She said: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”
“Yeah, well, you need to know that that’s true,” Tooth said. “There never was anything truer, as far as I can tell.” He fingered the tooth. “Look,” he went on, and sat on the coffee table, his knees touching Daisy’s. “You see this tooth? This tooth is from the Wolf that Made me. This tooth is from my Maker, the one that called the moon into my life. You see, Daisy, Dorian and I are werewolves.” He powered on before Daisy could say anything. “For the past two months he and I have been at the Council of the Wolf Brethren. Where to start? Okay, look. Dorian only got a job at your place of employment because he Scented you. We both did, about half a year ago. We Scented a woman so wolf-like – so wild and strong and loyal – that we had to come to this city and see you. We have Scented you now, and nothing can change that. But it is forbidden by the Council for Wolves to receive pleasure from humans until permission has been granted. That is why we could—do what we did in the park—and—”
“That is why you wouldn’t let me do anything in return,” Daisy mumbled.
Tooth nodded.
Wait, Daisy, you’re not actually going to believe this crap, are you? How can you? It’s absurd? It’s the stuff fairy stories are made of. (Well, no, that’s fairies.) You know what I mean! It’s make-believe! Werewolves don’t exist. Just because you go around calling yourself “Tooth”, it doesn’t make you supernatural. “How do I know what you’re saying is true?” Daisy said.
Tooth shrugged. “You don’t,” he said. “There’s a full moon in two weeks. You’ll be able to see then, if you like. But for now?” He shook his head. “We don’t have much in the way of powers, except for our sense of smell, which is about as good as a dog’s.”
“And that is very good, isn’t it?”
He nodded. “I know you had a tuna sandwich for lunch, and I know you ate mints to try to cover the smell. I know for breakfast you had a banana and strawberry yoghurt. The perfume you wear is expensive, smells like lavender, but you haven’t worn it in three—no—four days.”
“That doesn’t prove anything,” Daisy said, somewhat uneasily. “You could just be stalking me.”
Tooth held out his hands. “How can I prove it to you?”
“Go into the bathroom,” Daisy said.
He inclined an eyebrow.
“Just do it, please,” she said.
He did as she said and walked into the bathroom. Daisy shut the door after him and then went around the apartment closing all the curtains. Call her paranoid, but for this to work properly she needed to make absolutely sure no one could see into the apartment and relay the information to Tooth—what, via an earpiece? You’ve been watching too many movies. Well, maybe she had, but she would try this anyway.
When all the curtains were closed, and cool evening sunlight filtered through turning the room a dark shade of orange, she went into the kitchen and collected a selection of food: cucumber, tomato, a half-full bowl of leftover tuna pasta, a bag of cheese and onion chips, a quarter-block of cheese. She set the food around the apartment, hiding it in different nooks, and then stood in the center of the room.
“Right,” she said. “Can you hear me?”
“Yep.”
“What I’m going to do is, walk around the apartment and stand next to food. If your sense of smell is really as good as you claim, you’ll be able to tell what kind of food I am standing next to.”
“Okay,” Tooth said, without any apparent hesitation.
Daisy walked across the apartment stood next to the cucumber, which she had placed on the coffee table. Before she could ask Tooth if he knew what she was standing beside, he called out: “Cucumber.” She cursed, silently, whether out of fear or amazement she didn’t know. She walked to the television, next to which she’d placed the tuna. “Tuna,” he said. “Tomato, cheese and onion chips,” when she was stood next to them. She walked into the bedroom, far back into the bedroom, beyond the range of any human smell. She closed the door behind her, making it doubly hard. Then she shouted: “What now?” There was a slight pause – I knew he was making it up – and then he called: “A block of cheese—a half or quarter block. It’s going moldy, by the way.” She looked down at the cheese and, sure enough, it was going moldy.
Tooth sat on the couch as he returned the food to the fridge and cupboards – the cheese to the bin – and when Daisy joined him he nodded and said: “Have I passed your test?”
“I don’t—how—what—”
“It is a shock, I know,” Tooth said.
“It’s more than a shock,” Daisy said. “It goes against everything I have ever learnt. There is a divide between fiction and reality. Even a bibliophile knows that, even if they don’t feel it—they know it. But now? What am I to make of this? What else is real? Are vampires real, ghosts, ogres?”
Tooth shrugged. “Not that I know of, but anything’s possible.”
“And what is it you want with me?”
“We want you,” Tooth said. “Dorian and I. We have Scented you. When a Wolf Scents someone, it is impossible for us to forget the scent. We need you, Daisy. Both of us need you.”
“What, in your—” She felt silly even saying it, but forced herself on. “In your Wolf form?”
“Preferably.”
“And what is that? Is it like the movies?”
“We’re more humanoid than you’d expect, and can control ourselves more, but it is similar, yes.”
“I don’t think I could do that, not right away.”
“So then spend a night with us in our human forms,” Tooth said, and moved across the couch to her. It wasn’t until he put his hand on hers that she realized she was shaking. “Just spend one night with us in our human forms. We will not hurt you – a Wolf cannot hurt one he has Scented unless the Scented gives him permission. It is literally impossible for us to hurt you. Look.” He drew his fist back, and then shot it straight at her face. Daisy lurched back. She would’ve been too late – the fist would have driven straight into her face – except that Tooth stopped short, seemingly against his will. His muscles strained and he pushed forward, but some invisible force restrained him. “See,” he said. “You’re perfectly safe with us. On top of that, a Wolf is forced to protect one he Scents.”
“But—but—why me?”
“You probably have Wolf blood in you,” he said. “Not many people do, but you do.”
Daisy thought about the steady tenacity with which she approached her reading: the steady tenacity to trawl through difficult text after difficult text. Was it so different from the steady tenacity of a wolf against faster prey, steadily following it, waiting for it to tire? Daisy had done well at school and college, not out of any exceptional brilliance, but by the ability to follow something through to the end consistently, without getting distracted; and she had since come to see that as a more important characteristic. Could her Wolf-blood explain that?
She shook her head, trying to shake the thoughts away. This was all too complicated. “I—don’t—know,” she breathed. “I need a drink. I need sleep.”
“I’ll get you a drink,” he said, and before she knew it she was sipping a glass of wine.
“You want me to spend one night with you in your human forms?” Daisy said, sounding idiotic with each word. This is a trick! part of her screamed. They are tricking you. They’ll fuck you and then post some sick blog about it! But Daisy found – in some deep part of her – that she really, really wanted to spend a night wi
th the two men. What pleasures would she feel? What unchartered territory of human connection would she brave? More importantly, how many sweet orgasms would she have?
“Yes,” Tooth said.
“I don’t know,” Daisy said, finishing off the wine. “I need to think about it. Give me a day—no, two days. Give me two days. I’ll tell Dorian my answer. Wait, will he be back at work?”
Tooth nodded. “Yes, we worked it out with the boss.”
“Okay, then, I’ll tell Dorian my answer.”
She led Tooth to the door and then closed it behind him. When she was gone, she threw herself down on her bed. Thinking over everything – Wolf, Wolf, Wolf – she couldn’t help it. She keeled over, holding her belly, and threw herself into a full-on giggling fit.
*****
The eyes, she thought, as she watched Dorian across the office, trying to appear inconspicuous and casual. That’s why they have the same color eyes. She didn’t need to ask one of them to know that she was right. She knew that the chances of those eyes being replicated in two people were low. They were so blue-white, so utterly inhuman that she felt slightly silly for not seeing before that something wasn’t right.
And what? You were meant to jump from slightly odd-looking eyes to werewolves? Give yourself some credit. Not even Einstein would have made the quantum leap between eyes and lycanthropy. She knew that was right, and so didn’t feel too silly for the rest of the day as she got on with her work. She still had to make her decision, and pondered it with more indecision than decision, having no idea what to choose. Should she go with the wolf-men, or should be back off? Oh, how she wanted to be with the two of them.
But then… a threesome with two basically unknown men. What would that make her? What would she think of herself? What would other people think of her? These were thoughts she wished didn’t invade her mind, but did so nonetheless: the kind of thoughts she wished she could banish forever into a region unoccupied by her own consciousness, and the kind of thoughts that persisted in pushing themselves to the forefront of her mind. She sighed and leaned back, and rubbed her eyes, and tried not to look at Dorian.
There must be a way for her to do this and feel okay about it, mustn’t there? She knew some women would laugh at the way she was pondering what should have been a simple decision. There were two hot men, and they both wanted her. What was the problem? And yet she couldn’t bring herself to just say yes. There was nothing else for it; she had to talk to someone about it.
That night, she rang Jessica. She left out all the werewolf stuff, and instead told her that there were two hot guys who wanted to try a threesome with her. She told Jessica that she wanted to, but she was scared of what others and her reflection would say and think. She told Jessica that she wanted it, badly.
Jessica laughed. “There is no choice, is there? If you want it that badly, why not just do it? As long as you know they’re safe and won’t do anything to hurt you, why shouldn’t you try it? I tell you what. How about we have a system? You invite them over to your apartment – we agree a time – and if you don’t call me an hour, or half an hour, or whatever after they’ve arrived, I call the cops. That way, at least you know help will arrive if they do turn out to be psychopaths.”
Somehow, Daisy knew they weren’t psychopaths, knew that everything they were saying about being Wolves was true, but she agreed to the proposition. What harm could it cause? And it would be an ideal failsafe. That way she could enjoy it all the more. She told Jessica the time and day (tomorrow). Then she went to bed and curled into her comfy reading position.
The next day at work she nodded to Dorian across the office to meet her near the toilets. Angela winked at her and she blushed furiously. When they met in the hallway, alone, Daisy told Dorian the time, and told him that it had to be at her apartment. She waited to see if there would be any resistance, but there was none. She took that as a good sign and went back to work.
That night as she stood in front of the mirror in sexy lingerie that she hadn’t worn in years – spinning to get a look at her ass and then at her breasts – she wondered what the hell she was doing. She wondered what her ex-husbands would say if they could see her now. Do I really care about that? she asked herself. One ruined my self-esteem for a long time; the other ruined my academic life. They can go to hell as far as I’m concerned. And even though she knew that was true, she still felt their eyes on her as she sat in the lounge with a loose-fitting flowing dress on (which would be easy to pull over her head, revealing the lingerie).
Part of her was worried that they wouldn’t turn up, but she needn’t have worried. Exactly at the agreed-upon time there was a knock at the door. She answered the door and there stood Tooth and Dorian, with their animal-ice eyes and muscular bodies. “Come in,” she said, and led them into the lounge. “Would you like a drink?”
They sat and made conversation as they drank their wine, and then Daisy – without a word – stood up and walked into the bedroom. She heard their footsteps behind her. They seemed to synchronize with her heartbeat: thump-thump-thump, thump-thump-thump.
When she was in the bedroom, she turned and faced them. Dorian smiled; Tooth looked serious, intent, very much like a wolf regarding its prey. Tooth kicked the door closed.
Daisy was alone with the Wolves.
*****
Tooth came to her first, moving across the room with the grace and determination of a wolf. He put his hand on her leg and rubbed up, up, under her flimsy dress and touched her clit through her underwear. Dorian followed, moving behind her, and grabbing her ass with both hands, pressing the soft flesh. Daisy moaned out and reached down and touched their cocks: one hand behind her pressed against Dorian’s, the other pressed against Tooth’s. It was impossible to tell whose was bigger, but they were both huge. Daisy swallowed with fear and excitement. They were rock-hard, pressing against their pants.
Daisy rubbed them hard and the Wolves groaned. Tooth pulled down her sexy lingerie, not caring about the frills and decoration, only wanting what was underneath. Dorian pulled her dress over her head and threw it to the floor, and then – with a one-handed expert move – undid her bra. He reached around and grabbed her breasts as Dorian rubbed her clit. Daisy bit down – absorbing the pleasure, feeling it in every part of her – and rubbed their cocks even faster.
Without warning, Tooth pushed down on her shoulders. Daisy fell to her knees, guided by Tooth’s supporting hand, like they were doing some kind of dance. He pulled down his pants and his cock sprang up. Daisy looked around and saw that Dorian had pulled his pants down, too. Their cocks pointed almost straight up. Daisy turned to her side and grabbed their naked cocks, squeezing hard and pumping her arms up and down. The Wolves groaned louder and this spurred her on to rub even harder.
Then she turned to Tooth’s cock and put it inside her mouth. It was far too big to deep throat, as she had heard was all the rage these days, so she sucked the tip and worked the base with her hand, twisting and pumping. Then she turned and took Dorian’s cock in her mouth. Dorian bent down so his hard-muscled belly was in her face and grabbed her breasts as she sucked him. The room filled with sucking and moaning sounds.
Tooth lifted her and put her on the bed, and then knelt down before her vagina, regarding it like a work of art. And his tongue was as light as an expert paint stroke at first, brushing her clit. As Tooth licked her clit – slowly gaining intensity – Dorian lay on the bed next to her and planted his lips on hers whilst touching her breasts, pinching the nipples. Daisy moaned as her tongue danced with Dorian’s and Tooth’s tongue danced over her vagina. She pressed her legs tight together, locking his head in place.
He pushed his head hard into her vagina, licking her clit faster and faster. Dorian broke off the kiss and then grabbed her breasts and began sucking the nipples. Daisy reached down and rubbed Dorian’s cock, slick with her spit. She rubbed it harder and harder, and then Dorian whispered: “Who first?”
Tooth parted her legs and stood up.
“Me,” he said, and found a condom on the bedside table, where Daisy had left them. He quickly put it on and then leaned over her. “Are you ready?”
Biting her lip, she nodded.
Tooth slid inside of her, his hair hanging down in her face. She bit the hair as his cock parted her vagina. At first the pain was intense, and then she opened to him and her body filled with a hot, tingling pleasure. She held her legs in the air as he began to thrust. He pushed deep inside of her, into her sweet spot. I’ll come soon, she thought, and no sooner had she thought it than she was coming all over his cock. As she came, Dorian climbed on the bed and put his cock in her mouth. She took it in her mouth without thinking, bobbing her head up and down and looking at him through pleasure-hazed eyes.
He looked back down at her with penetrating, hard blue eyes, his strong jaw set. She sucked his cock faster and faster. Tooth grabbed her thighs and rammed into her harder and harder, fucking her sweet spot, pounding it, causing jolts of pleasure to pulse through her. With her free hand – the hand that wasn’t working Dorian’s cock – she grabbed Tooth’s chest, feeling the rippling muscle.
How had I debated this? a dim part of her thought through the pleasure. How had I thought about not doing this? This is awesome! Why in the name of God would I have turned this down? Why in the name of—Tooth fucked her ever harder, something she didn’t know was possible, and she came again – hard – having to release Dorian’s cock for a moment.
Then Dorian stood and began putting a condom on his cock. He nudged Tooth aside. Tooth growled, and Dorian growled back, and for a moment Daisy could see the Wolves in them, the animal part of them that was so clear when you looked into their eyes. Dorian grabbed her and spun her onto her front, on all fours. Funny, she thought. I thought Dorian would be missionary, and Tooth would be doggy.
Then his cock slid into her, slamming her sweet spot. Tooth climbed into the bed and knelt before her, putting his cock in her mouth. She braced her hands on his belly and just opened her mouth, letting the force from Dorian’s thrusts push her onto Tooth’s cock. Tooth grabbed hair, not hard, but not soft, either, and pushed his cock as far into her mouth as it could go. She choked and coughed, and yet she found that she liked it.
