“Hmmm. Bruce. What’s up?” she yawned.
“Just wanted to know how you’re feeling?”
“Much better. No more urges to tear your clothes off,” she winked.
“Bummer.”
She smiled and gave me a halfhearted shove. I reached up and brushed her hair away from her face, running the back of my hand down her cheek as I did. She blushed and gave me a smile that melted my heart.
“So, dating a teammate is probably a horrible idea.”
“I agree,” she smiled.
“But, how about we take it slow and see what happens? Once you’re feeling better, you let me take you out on a proper date. What do you say?”
“Sure.”
“Good. Get some rest, Foxy.”
“Are you really going to call me that?”
“You’ve earned it.”
She smiled and I kissed her gently on the forehead. I jumped back into Vlad and headed home. Pulling into the garage, I slung my tag over his rearview mirror. I patted him on the hood and wished him goodnight. He didn’t reply, but that was all right. He needed his rest. I could already feel him relax once he was home. He really did love that gold.
I checked the security system and found out that everything was all right. Between my brother and Visine, I almost believed it this time. But, the emotional roller coaster of the day was obviously still affecting me, as it took a full minute before I noticed someone standing there in the dark. I laughed and said, “Illuminate.”
My smiled quickly faded. The Vietnamese woman standing in front of me was the last person I ever expected to see again. She was five foot two and weighed maybe a hundred pounds. She wore tight black pants and an even tighter top. It was the outfit one expects on a cat-burglar. Her low neckline showed off cleavage that was made possible by a pair of beautiful fake breasts. They were wonderfully round and perky and just the right size to make you think it was possible they could be real. But, I knew better. Her dark black hair was cut short, showing off her sexy neck. Pouty lips smiled above a round chin and below a button nose. Her cheeks were soft and her small dark eyes were captivating.
She started walking towards me, and every sway of her hips screamed sexy. It was almost enough to make me forget that she was one of the deadliest assassins I’d ever met. If that wasn’t enough to worry about, there was also the matter of her death. She died a few years ago. I know, because I was there. Her body was never recovered, but no one could have survived that fall. My brain kept trying to tell me that she wasn’t real. But I shared a connection with this woman, and deep down in the very fibers of my being, I could feel her. Somehow, she was alive and standing in front of me.
Her name is Victoria, and she is the love of my life.
“Well? Are you going to say anything?” she asked, her sweet, heavily accented voice just as I remembered it.
I said the only thing I could.
“My security system sucks.”
