“You can always tell me to stop, you know.”

She nodded. With Tanner, she didn’t think she’d need to.

Foil tore and latex snapped. He ran his hands over her breasts and down her waist. In a way, she wished it wasn’t daytime. Having him see her big ass in full light might make him walk away.

He leaned over and kissed her back. His fingers stroked her waist and moved over her belly. She sucked in a breath to flatten her abs.

  “I love your body.”

He did? She was a big-boned girl, always had been, and his kind words fueled her desires. Respecting his wish for her to keep quiet, she pressed her lips tight as she wiggled her hips.

He rubbed her rear as if to say he got her message. Then he pulled her hair out of the way and nipped her earlobe. Even that simple action caused shimmers to trip down her body. When his hands rose up to her breasts again, she inhaled, wanting to fill his palms. He rubbed her nipples then pinched them lightly. His tongue traveled down her neck, where he placed tiny kisses.

When he said he was going to give her his cock, she believed it would be soon. Now she wasn’t so sure. She could only last so long. “Tan-ner. Please.”

  “Patience.”

He slipped his covered cock between her legs. With one hand he held her hips and slowly moved his hard shaft back and forth. The pressure on her clit was divine. She sucked in a deep breath the moment he pressed his hard chest against her back and placed his cock at her entrance. Sparks of anticipation ripped through her veins, and blood pounded in her ears at finally getting what she yearned for.

“Do you want me?” His voice cracked.

Surely, he knew. “More than I’m capable of answering right now.” Her voice wobbled enough to prove she was telling the truth.

He nudged open her hole and drove in with one long, strong thrust. Oh, my God. His wide girth stretched her insides, and stars burst behind her lids. It had been too long. The man was huge and had exceeded her wildest dreams.

He remained fully seated until her heartbeat slowed. With his hands now covering her breasts, he could probably tell when she was calm enough for him to continue. He edged out then drove back in. She loved how he groaned as he played with her breasts, pushing them together than kneading them as if he had to touch them in order to breathe.

He plucked her nipples hard, and her inner walls soaked his cock. She clamped down on him, and he stilled.

“Don’t do that, sugar, or I’ll come too soon. I want to love you for as long as I can.”

She wasn’t sure she could last. Every touch heated her to the core. She pushed back her hips, which seemed to set him off again, and he plowed back in. Their bodies slickened, and the air became perfumed with their sex. Her fingers practically dug into the wooden door as he thrust into her relentlessly. She had to palm the door to keep from ramming her head into the hard wood.

Tanner’s pace increased. “God, what you do to me, Hailey. I can’t get enough.”

His next thrust stretched her wide. As if lightning struck her lower half, she yelled. Nothing mattered but reaching nirvana.

His grunts matched hers. “Come for me, baby.”

She opened her mouth and gulped in air as he pounded her pussy. When he slid his hand down her belly and thrummed her clit, she jumped head first over the cliff into the sea of ecstasy, her orgasm stealing her mind. Her brain fogged, and she felt as if time had slowed. Nothing mattered but the intense throbbing and his loud breaths.

Tanner drove in one final time and held her tight as his cock expanded and pulsed. Hot cum blasted the condom, and his heart beat as rapidly as hers. He wrapped his hands around her waist and rained kisses on her shoulder. Neither said anything for a long time.

Tanner finally released the pressure around her waist. “You are amazing, Hailey Hunter.”

She smiled and dropped her head. Every part of her body reveled in the joy filling her veins. This was what she’d been missing in her life. She stopped short of thinking about the future. This precise moment was what she wanted to remember—not last week, not next month, but right now. This was perfection.

Tanner gently squeezed both breasts. “Hold that thought.” He pulled out and rushed toward the bathroom.

She debated taking off the blindfold, but somehow the darkness brought her comfort, so she remained still. Tanner probably would have been okay with her standing, but she lacked the energy to do even that much. He returned and swiped her clean.

“You don’t need this anymore.” He removed the tie, and the light made her squint for a moment.

She straightened and turned around. He was one glorious-looking man. “Mmm.”

He grinned. “We better dress. No telling when Cody’s riding lesson will finish.”

She’d been so involved with what they were doing that she’d momentarily forgotten about the boy. “I’m sure he’s having a blast.”

“I hope he is. I want him to like the ranch lifestyle. Coming from Denver to the boonies has to be a shock.”

“As it would if I moved to the city.”

  “Amen.”

Knowing time was short, they dressed. She picked up her soiled clothes. “Will you be driving me home, or should I ask Jackson?”

  “I can.”

“Mind if I leave these in your car now?”

“I’ll take them. I have to do a load of wash anyway.”

“Wow. Thanks. That saves me time having to find a Laundromat.”

He dragged a finger down her cheek. “You’re welcome to base out of here for the next two weeks.”

She was tempted. “It’ll be better if I give you and Cody time to bond. He doesn’t need to have me close-by. When I leave, it might be hard on him.”

A shadow crossed his brow, but after an inhale it disappeared. “I know it will be.” He opened his mouth as if to add something but closed it quickly.

“I, uh, should get back to the barn.”

  “Yeah.”

She hurried out. She’d been in the barn less than fifteen minutes when snorting horses pranced in. She peeked out from one of the stalls, but neither Jackson nor Cody seemed to notice she was there. She rested her arms over the top of stall, enjoying the view of Jackson reaching up and helping Cody down from the horse.

Hailey stepped out. “Hey, how did it go?” She glanced from Jackson to Cody.

Cody smiled, but it was short-lived. “Good.”

Jackson’s grin told her a different story. “He was great.”

Cody shook his head. “I almost fell off when Lancaster began to trot.”

Jackson pulled off the paint’s saddle. “But you didn’t fall. The next time will be easier. By next year you might be riding in the rodeo.”

Now Cody’s eyes shone. “You think?”

“If you work hard, you might.” Once he removed both saddles, he handed Lancaster’s reins to Cody. “Let’s get them in the stalls. I’ll show you how to brush him down.”

Jackson winked as he walked past. Her body heated just looking at the man. What was wrong with her? Everything about these men excited her. If her interest kept moving at this speed, she’d be a basket case by the time the rodeo wrapped up.

Jackson’s soft instruction to Cody about brushing down an animal after a hard ride floated over to her while she checked the other horses to make sure their hooves and teeth were healthy. Jackson’s cell phone rang, and while his voice carried, she couldn’t figure out the conversation.

A minute later he found her. “Got some good news.”

  “Oh, yeah? What?”

“Just sold some of Samson’s semen. Got a great price for it. Apparently, my bull’s prowess in competition has been getting around.”

“That’s great.” It’s what breeders loved to hear. “When does he need the semen?”

“He’ll pick it up at the rodeo.”

“How many straws does he need?”

  “Fifty.”

“I’ll have everything ready for you. Samson a
nd I are going to become fast friends.”

  * * * *

On Monday, after forking over five hundred dollars, Hailey picked up her newly repaired car. She was relieved that she no longer had to ask one of the men to make the trip into town and back, though Tanner said he worked downtown anyway. It wouldn’t be a big deal to escort her, but she figured he had enough to do with bringing Cody to and from school.

Every time she asked Tanner how he was getting along with Cody, he’d shrugged and said Cody wasn’t much of a talker. She couldn’t imagine how frustrating it would be to parent an unhappy or troubled child.

The next five days went by in a blur as everyone readied for the rodeo. By midafternoon on Saturday, she’d just finished with her chores when Jackson strolled into the barn looking way too sexy. “I want to apologize,” he said.

  “For what?”

“I’ve been going so crazy trying to help the family get this rodeo set up that I haven’t spent any quality time with you.”

How nice of him to be so concerned. “I understand. Samson’s been keeping me company just fine.”

He laughed. “Listen. I didn’t hire you to work fourteen straight days. How about you go home and get prettied up? I’ll come by around six and take you to dinner.”

  Her breath caught. “Seriously?”

  “You sound surprised, Pleasure.”

She shrugged. “I guess I thought you weren’t all that into me.” While he had shown a lot of interest at first, she’d barely seen him this week.

He moved closer. “You thought wrong.” He ran a knuckle down her cheek. “I’ll show you tonight just how much.”

Those words heated her up. “Okay, then. Six o’clock it is.” Excitement buzzed through her. Then she realized what was wrong. “What about Tanner?”

“He and Cody have something planned.”

She shrugged. It was nice that father and son had some downtime, but she was looking forward to being with both men again. “I’ll be ready.”

He winked and left. She had several hours until her hot date, and she wanted to spend some time with Tanner and Cody before she headed to town. She traipsed into the house where Cody was at the kitchen table with a book open.

  He looked up. “Hi, Hailey.”

“Hey, Cody.” She retrieved some water from the fridge and sat opposite him. “What are you studying?”

  “Math.”

She lifted the book and checked out the title. “Pre-Algebra. Very nice. How’s it going in school?” He shrugged. So he was back to the one-shoulder lift again. “Have you met any kids that are nice?”

  “Some.”

This was more difficult than she thought. She could now sympathize with Tanner. “Have you seen that pretty girl who came to the tea shop?”

His eyes sparkled, but he kept the rest of his face expressionless. The kid had perfected the art of deception.

“She’s in my science, math, and photo classes.”

“What’s her name?” She knew, but she wondered if Cody had taken the time to find out. He was, after all, thirteen.

He fidgeted with the edge of the paper. “Alice.”

“Did Jackson tell you that we live in the same boarding house?”

Now a smile captured his lips. “Really?”

“Really. So if you ever need to study together, I can ask her mom.”

“Cool. In fact, we have a project due in two weeks. The teacher said since we are both new that we should work together.”

  “What kind of project?”

“It’s for science. Mr. Hendrix had eight projects he wanted the class to do and then present to everyone. We were the last to pick, so we got the hardest one, but it’s the best.”

She loved his enthusiasm. “What is it?

“We have to build a robot!” He pulled a piece of paper from his notebook. “I’ve been making a drawing of it. We use Vex and Lego parts. Our robot has to pick up and move small four-by-four-inch square bags filled with sand. It’ll be so awesome.”

“What does Alice think about this?”

He scrunched up his nose. “She’s not very happy.”

Hailey laughed. “I can imagine. She’s lucky to have you as a partner.”

  “That’s what she said.”

Tanner came down the hallway. “Hey. You bothering my son?” He winked.

Tanner and she had decided to let father and son bond for a while before she spent a lot of time with Cody. She pushed back her chair. “I was just checking in. Seems like he has everything under control.”

Tanner stood behind his son. The two looked more alike every day. “I hear you and Jackson are going out to dinner.”

  “Yes, we are.”

“Have fun.” He then mouthed I miss you behind Cody’s back, and her heart cracked.

  Chapter Twelve

Hailey parked behind the boarding house and rushed in. Minnie was at the front desk talking on the phone and waved. Hailey smiled back before hurrying up the stairs to her room. As she approached room three she slowed. If the joint project between Cody and Alice was due in two weeks, she wanted to let Sophie know that if the kids needed to work together that she’d help arrange the time.

Hailey knocked. While voices sounded from inside, no one answered. “Sophie, it’s me, Hailey.” Cody had told her that Alice mentioned her father was dead. From the way Sophie often seemed afraid, she doubted that was the case, but asking outright why she was skittish didn’t seem appropriate.

The door opened and Sophie smiled. “Hailey, you’re back early.”

“I got sprung for good behavior.”

“You want to come in?” Sophie looked behind her as if she wanted to check to make sure Alice was okay with that.

“Just for a second. I have a hot date with Jackson Baldwin tonight and need to get ready.”

Sophie motioned her in. “Jackson’s last name is Baldwin?”

She thought she’d used his last name when she’d introduced them. “Yes. Why?”

She waved a hand. “Nothing. It’s just that I work for the McLeans.”

  “They’re the Baldwins’ neighbors.”

  “More like bitter enemies.”

She didn’t like that. “What do you mean?”

“I know,” Alice piped up. “I overheard Alex say something about those damned Confederate sympathizers. I didn’t know what he meant so he told me.”

“What did he tell you, honey?”

“That Montana wasn’t even a territory until 1864, but they had a definite opinion about the Civil War. I looked that part up on the computer. Some people here liked the North while others liked the South.”

Hailey caught the look of pride on Sophie’s face.

“Alice loves to look things up.”

“Anyway,” Alice continued, “most of the soldiers in Montana didn’t care about the war or were deserters, but many wanted Montana’s gold to support their side.”

Sophie nodded. “Alex mentioned the same thing to me. Apparently, the Baldwins were big supporters of the Confederate whereas the McLeans believed in the Union. The story goes that the Baldwins donated money to the South, but then claimed the McLeans intercepted the stagecoach and stole the money for themselves.”

Hailey shook her head. “Even if that were true, that happened over a hundred and fifty years ago. Wouldn’t these two families have gotten over that by now?”

Sophie shrugged. “I couldn’t say. All I know is that both Alex and Mason McLean don’t like any of the Baldwins. It’s not my place to question my employers.”

“Absolutely not.” Now seeing if Alice wanted to come over to the Baldwin house to work with Cody might be trickier. “Tanner’s son, Cody, told me that Alice and he are in the same group in science class.”

Sophie spun around. “She told me she was working with a boy named Cody. Who’s Tanner? I thought you were dating Jackson Baldwin.”

Hailey laughed. “It’s complicated. I work at Jackson Baldwin’s ranch. His roommate is
Tanner Crenshaw. He just found out last week that he has a son.” She looked over at Alice. Maybe she shouldn’t have said anything. “Alice, don’t mention this to anyone, okay? I don’t think Cody would appreciate it if the kids at school knew what happened.”

“Okay, but he already told me. He said his mom died of cancer and that Tanner is his real dad only he didn’t know it.”

“That’s right.” Hailey was pleased Cody had confided in her.

Sophie turned back to Hailey. “So this Cody lives at the Baldwin ranch now?”

  “Yes.”

  “Hmm.”

“Mom. What’s the big deal? Cody is cool.”

“I suppose.” She turned to face Alice. “When is this project due?”

Alice blew out a breath and looked up at the ceiling. “Not for another two weeks.”

From the way Alice then cast her gaze down, she didn’t want to discuss it.

“They have to build a robot,” Hailey said. “Cody loves robots, so there shouldn’t be a problem, but I thought maybe the two kids might want to work on it together after school.”

  “Could I, Mom?”

Sophie hesitated. “Maybe Cody can come over to Alex and Mason’s house.”

That was all she could ask for. “That would be great, too. Just let me know when would be a good time and I’ll bring him over.”

  “Great.”

“Well, I need to get ready for my hot date.”

Sophie smiled and looked more relaxed than the last time they’d spoken. “Have fun.”

  “I will. Bye, Alice.”

She looked up from the computer and smiled. “Bye, Hailey.”

What a cute little girl. She’d break someone’s heart someday. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be Cody’s.

Hailey probably had almost too much time to get ready, but she wanted to show Jackson she could clean up well. All he’d seen her in were old work pants and a lab coat. She paused. That wasn’t entirely true. He’d seen her naked.

First thing she had to do was to shower. She undressed and made sure to put her dirty clothes in a laundry bag. If she could convince Jackson to come back to her room, she wanted the place spotless, just the way he liked it.
