Dungeon Enslaved

by D. R. Rosier

What none of them realized was the wolves were retreating on purpose, leading Michael forward, until he stepped on a trap.

Inky darkness exploded from the floor, and it ripped through the light shield protections. Michael screamed in torturous pain, as his body started to be eaten from the inside out.

The wolves seemed to decide he was finished, and both took off toward Doran who was still healing himself.

Jacen frowned, as he casted, and a white light exploded from him and took Michael in the chest, and his light magic wrestled with the dark curse and tried to neutralize it.

One of the wolves leaped to take down Doran, and Doran desperately lifted his arm to block, and the powerful jaws of the wolf gripped his arm and started to shake it violently. I imagined Doran thought his arm might be torn off. Doran even in the midst of that pain managed to get off a light bolt, and because the wolf was gripping his arm and relatively stationary, he managed to hit it and kill it.

Doran however, completely missed the second wolf that lunged at his throat from the side, and he was dead a moment later as it was ripped out.

I felt myself grow in power, as my potential was completely filled, and I used the rest to enhance that potential. Five down, two bastards to go.

Jacen fired off a light bolt, when the wolf spit out Doran’s neck. Then he totally panicked, as the wolf had dodged and was now stalking towards him.

Michael was still down, although Jacen thought his spell would win he had to keep fueling it until it broke through the curse.

Jacen ripped at his robes, and he pulled out an enchantment which he triggered. A globe of white blasted out, and the wolf died when it passed through it.

Michael seemed to recover, and he nodded gratefully when Jacen followed it up with another heal.

  “What was that?”

Jacen grunted, “A very powerful dispel magic, I can only use it once a day, I’d planned to use it on the dungeon crystal, to disorient him long enough to get him under control.”

Michael sighed, “I hate to say it, but I’m not sure we can survive this. Not just two of us, if we have almost three full levels to go.”

  Yeah, that was my plan.

Jacen nodded, “Probably not, but we might be close enough to cheat. His dungeon room is only sixty feet away, almost straight down.”

Oh shit, “Please tell me he’s about to break the unwritten rules, so I can personally squash him like a bug. Dungeons can’t arbitrarily kill adventurers, when they follow the rules.”

Not that I overly cared about the rules when it came to vengeance.

Astrith sighed, “Don’t underestimate him. He must have a plan he believes viable.”

I replied, “We’ll be fine. I won’t lose you, I won’t let them take you from me, or me from you. Not again.”

Astrith closed her eyes, “I love you too, just… be careful.”

Michael asked, “What do you have in mind?”

Jacen pulled out another artifact, “Earth artifact. The nobles use it in their mines. I should be able to dig us a hole, lower us down. Our auras should prevent him from crushing us with stone, he won’t be able to build stone up against our skin directly. It should have enough power.”

Michael nodded, “How many enchantments do you have?”

Jacen shrugged, “The usual stuff, emergency healing, plus the one I’m going to use on the dungeon to enslave its mind again.”

“You have an artifact for that?”

Jacen nodded, “It has to be an artifact, a very rare one that was originally used two thousand years ago. Mind enslavement is dark magic after all, I can’t cast it myself.”

I was kind of annoyed, my levels were enough to kill him. I was sure of that now, but the bastard was going to cheat.

Jacen activated the earth enchantment, and the stone melted away under their feet, and they literally just sank into the ground. Standing on the bottom of the shaft as it built itself. I felt a little fear as they got closer, I’d been a master level three, but I was pretty sure Jacen was my equal, if not a level four.

Still, I had a surprise waiting for him. The statues of dark god Nurien and goddess Hedea weren’t exactly just statues. I wouldn’t have used them against adventurers just beating my dungeon, but they were also there to guard me as a last line of defense against those that wanted to kill me.

And they were powered by those big old mana stones, Hedea with a large light mana stone, and Nurien with the dark mana stone.

  “Home now.”

  Astrith pouted.

“Come on baby, show me that sexy ass, and move it.”

Astrith chuckled, “Fine, but if something happens to you…” she trailed off.

Yeah, now that I’d met her, had fallen in love with her, I wouldn’t want to survive without her either. Sure, building a dungeon was kind of fun, but before I’d met her all I’d had was revenge, and I’d fully planned on dying at the end of it all.

I was also annoyed, I’d wanted to see my other preparations in action. The second half of the second floor was two of the giants instead of one, and two wolves. The third floor was two giants and two man-sized golems wielding swords and crossbows in the rooms, with roving packs of four wolves in the tunnels that would look for ambush opportunities, not to mention the fire, dark, and earth magic traps. The fourth level incorporated full group tactics, with giants, normal humanoid golems some focused on magic and the others focused physically, wolves, and bears.

There’s no way Jacen would’ve survived all that, not with just one paladin to watch his back.

The bastard broke through my ceiling, and the damned paladin caught him and kept him steady as they fell ten feet to the floor. Right in front of my crystal.

But… before he could reach into his robes and pull out the other artifact, I struck through my last line of defense, save my own personal spells which probably would’ve done the job on their own. I might have had the control of a master level three, but my lifeforce was vast in comparison to a normal human’s, even a master level five.

The statue of Hedea exploded in light, and the wave of dispelling magic stripped all of their protections and shields. The mana crystal was completely drained in the process, and the spell ripped into his protections.

A split second later, the statue of Nurien exploded in darkness. The darkness sunk into their bodies, like a stone dropped into a pond, as the globular wave passed through and around them.

They both screamed as they fell to the floor and their bodies stiffened in pain. I knew their brains were shorting out, they had no chance to mentally wield magic to counter it, only a third party could’ve saved them at that point, as their bodies were ripped apart at the molecular level.

The base magic of darkness was interesting that way, it was a lot like a teleport spell, except it was also a death curse. The spell was removing very small portions of their bodies at once, while their nerves were highly sensitized, and their conscious minds were scrambled.

The screams should have been music to my ears, but I only felt disgust, and an empty feeling. I took mercy on them at the last, after only a few seconds of torture really, and cast a master level fire blast. Without shielding, their bodies were incinerated in a brief moment.

I also decided to make that killing spell a lot less painful. The most effective part was the dispel, allowing the overpowered spell following it an easy kill. Effective, because the dispel was cast at far beyond a level five power given the size of the crystals. I changed the second to a mind trap type spell, that would prevent them from feeling the pain of the curse killing them and stopping them from being able to fight back against it. Torture wasn’t my thing, apparently.

Point was. My vengeance hadn’t pleased my heart, but there was justice at least. It wouldn’t bring my Carolynn back, but I would punish the corrupt leaders of the church and see their dark legacy fall, the one built on my dead wife’s ashes. I didn’t know what would happen next, the goblins would arrive in a few days
, and I suspected with every master of the church in Tenemin being dead, the highest would send masters down very soon. It’d take them a week to travel down to Tenemin, even if they left that very moment.

Well, as soon as they’d heard the news.

Which… would be about right then, because I’d turned their bodies to ash, but I’d spared their heads from the fire. I wasn’t sure where the highest was, but he was a about to be put on notice. I’d been to the crown city and I knew where the throne room was. I cast one more spell, teleport, and the heads disappeared from my marble floor. I just wished I could see their faces, when my care package arrived.

Really, if I couldn’t be a runaway dungeon, I’d have to piss them off enough to come to me.

Then I used my power as a dungeon to clean up the mess.

  “You can come out now.”

She said sultrily, “Or… you could cum in.”

Damn, she was a naughty little wild demoness, and completely correct. I cast the mind trap fantasy spell, and followed it down our connection…

  Afterword:

I hope you enjoyed the story. This was the first book in the Dark Dungeon’s Revenge trilogy. Thank you for reading!

If you can, please take the time to leave a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads.

The next two books will be released in the two months following this book’s publish date. I’d never planned a new dungeon series, I was done with the genre after writing the Dark Dungeon trilogy. A lot of fans asked for a follow up though, and that sparked the idea. This series obviously can be stand-alone, with Nysten completely different and Nurien off with the elves, but if you haven’t read the first series you should give it a try.

The second book will bring the obvious continuation of the current overarching plots, along with unexpected dangers and challenges for both Narian and Jenny. Happy reading!
