The Wrong Time Page 21

by Alana Jade

Her gasp is drowned out by the sound of the waves crashing against the sand.

“Georgia, given what we’ve just decided on, now seems like the perfect time to ask this question which has been on the tip of my tongue for a long time now.”

I can see tears welling in her eyes. I’m blinking mine like crazy to try and stop mine from doing the same.

“Georgia, we’ve been through so much in such a short space of time, and I think if we can come out of all of that stronger than ever, then we’ve got a good thing going here. Georgia, I’d be honored if you’d marry me and become Mrs. Cunningham.”

Her head tells me the answer before her mouth can. She’s nodding like crazy, tears streaming down her face.

“Yes. Yes. Of course, I will.”

I place the ring on her finger. It matches her rose gold promise ring perfectly. The solitude oval diamond in the center looks gigantic on her dainty finger, but it really suits her.

Standing, I lift Georgia to her feet, and wrap my arms around her, pulling her in for a long, passionate kiss.

The staff have gathered behind us and are applauding while offering their congratulations.

Georgia leans back a little from me, a sly smile on her lips. “You know, I thought this is what you may have done on the final night here. When you told me about the private dining room, I was convinced.”

“Nope. My plan all along was to ask you tonight. It was made even more perfect because of what you asked. Now that you’ve said yes, I can let you in on the little secret about our final night here. Yes, I’ve arranged the private dining room. Yes, we’ll be eating in there. But I’ve also arranged for a celebrant, a wedding license, and for us both to go shopping tomorrow to pick out some outfits.”

“Are you serious?” she asks, her mouth falling open.

“If you don’t want to get married here, I will understand, and we can just enjoy a beautiful meal together and celebrate our engagement.”

Georgia thinks for a moment before her smile grows larger and larger. “I couldn’t think of a more perfect place to get married. Just the two of us. That’s exactly how I wanted to get married.”

“Phew,” I puff, relieved that she’s on board with my plan.

“As long as we can have a party to celebrate when we get back.”

“Of course. Mom and Lucy will insist on it.” I laugh. “Our Skype call on Wednesday is to tell our friends we’re engaged. But I’d like to surprise them when we get home that we’re married.”

She nods and cups my face with her hands and pulls me toward her, our lips meeting in a flurry of passionate and excited kisses.

Meeting Georgia on that day was the best thing to have ever happen to me. To us. I’ve often wondered if Ed had a helping hand in this from above.

All I know is, I’m going to be the best husband to Georgia I can possibly be, and we’re going to have a fantastic life together. Whether we met at the right place at the wrong time, or the wrong place at the right time, we have found each other now, and we’re never letting that go.

  For better or for worse.
