  A white lab coat.

  Then another shock.

Whatever was happening felt worse than a thousand After-Deaths.

I cried out, my right hand spasming from the shock treatment.

“Wha…” sounded like nothing but air. It was futile to try and speak.

“Save your strength,” someone said. “You’re gonna need it.”

Another jolt sent my entire body into a tight, immobile spasm.

  Fuck! What’s happening to me?

My vision cleared for a brief second.

  Jasmine.

  Mother.

Another jolt, and I felt my body weaken.

It wasn’t built for that kind of pain.

My eyes closed once more and did not reopen.

Jasmine, said, “That’s it,” as I felt myself retreating inward once again.

She spoke again. “You’ve experienced True Death and lived to tell about it.”

I did not fully understand and, as I faded into unconsciousness, I had only one thought.

  Necromancy.

  Acknowledgments

Thank you to my friend and editor, Jessica Mauldin. Plain and simply—I couldn’t do this without your help and guidance.

Thank you also to my proofreader, Kendra Moll; my fellow writer friend, Dale Ivan Smith, for the kind words and encouragement while I was enduring a rough patch; to my cover designer, Lou Harper, I knew you were the one who could bring Zee to life visually.

Thank you to my Mom and Dad for always reading my books and supporting me.

Thank you to my family and husband, Craig, for your continued support.

And most of all, thank YOU, Dear Reader!

  About the Author

Val O. Morris likes to pretend the monsters aren't real. She is a filmmaker turned author who writes fantasy and horror for gamers and geeks. A Monster Kid since birth, she loves all things ghosts, goblins, slashers, demons, monsters, zombies, madmen, werewolves, vampires, and freaky little kids who live in the corn.

When not writing, she can be found riding her motorcycle, enjoying popcorn, photography, playing with her dog, watching football, and drinking lots of Mt. Dew--not necessarily in that order. She's also a life-long video gamer and tech geek who LOVES horror movies, and is crazy about Godzilla.

She invites you to come for the monsters and stay for the story.
