“Yo!” The slim, lighter-skinned dude frowned at the sight of the gun. “Stick with the plan,” he warned. “Remember what the fuck Ace told you.” He knew how hot-headed Zero could be. Niggah would get sent on a mission to deliver a verbal message and his trigger-happy ass would end up laying a whole house down.
“Yo, you can leave the tool in the whip, man. The time for that’ll come later on when we rolling out to the airport, remember?”
“Man, shut the fuck up Izz,” Zero barked at his partner, and moved toward the entrance of the church. “You ain’t no fuckin’ boss.”
Zero liked the way his burner felt on his waist. He knew what the fuck he was doing. He’d been standing right there in the old fabric warehouse when Ace and Pluto had laid out the plan the night before.
“Zero, we gonna need you to pick up Gino in the morning,” Ace had instructed, “and Izz, you’ll be driving Juicy. Stay real cool until after the wedding reception, ya dig? We gonna snatch ’em up when they leave for their honeymoon. Izz, you gonna be the one driving them to the airport. Take the detour I showed you on the map, and then pull over in the alley. That’s when Zero’s gonna hop in and take control in the backseat. Don’t fuck ’em up too bad, just handle shit until you get ’em here. Bring ’em inside, and then me and Pluto will take over from there.”
Zero had his instructions cold memorized. He glanced at Izz over his shoulder and laughed. “Off brand muh’fucka,” he said, and then with a slick grin playing on his lips, he disappeared through the double doors and into the cool interior of the church.
Left outside alone, Izzy shook his head. “That niggah is unstable,” he muttered under his breath. “Straight unstable.”
$$$$$
Izzy damn sure had one thing right. There was some serious instability in the air, because while the two contracted killers had been busy going at each other, neither of them had noticed the stocky midget who hopped out of the Range Rover and slipped through a side door that had been left unlocked just for him.
CHAPTER 17
The groom knew it was bad luck to mess around with the bride before the wedding, but he had an itch going for her that he really needed to scratch. In just a few hours they would be headed to Acapulco for their honeymoon, but his baby was so sweet and fine that just the thought of her waiting down the hall had his dick standing straight up on rock.
Dressed to bang in his three thousand dollar custom-sewn white tux and a Kente-print bow-tie, he waited until his best man and one of his groomsmen went upstairs, then booked out of his dressing room and crept quickly down the corridor of the church’s basement.
All he wanted to do was slide up in the bride’s dressing room and get his lick on for a hot minute, and then he’d be out.
He grinned broadly as he walked past his second groomsman. Standing in a wide-legged stance, his man was loitering in the corridor and talking on his cell phone. His tux was tapered and his bright green bow-tie had lucky little leprechauns all over it. He raised his arm to wave and his jacket hiked open, giving the groom a peek at the ever-present gat on his waist.
Nodding, the groom moved on, and moments later he stood outside the bridal suite with his ear pressed to the door. He frowned. He had expected shit to be popping with about a thousand chicks running off at the mouth at once, but the soft chords of chapel music were the only sounds to be heard.
He raised his fist to knock, but then he changed his mind. Slowly, he twisted the knob and pushed the door open. He broke out in a smile the moment he saw her. Wearing an exquisite gown made of white lace, she was all alone and sitting at a dressing table with her back to him. Their eyes met in the mirror and all hell broke loose.
“Boy!” She jumped up from her chair and almost tripped over the long hem of her gown. She stumbled, caught up in the layers of snow-white fabric. “What are you doing in here?”
“Sshhh--!” The groom reached out and steadied her on her feet and then pulled her into his arms. “Nothing,” he said guiltily, nibbling at the corners of her lips. “What was you doing?”
“I was praying!”
The groom grinned. He kissed her again as his hands roamed her body. “Okay, let’s pray together real fast. And then I’m gonna get me a little bit, cool?”
“Are you crazy?” she pushed him away, laughing. “You ain’t even supposed to see me before the wedding! It’s bad luck!”
“Sshhh…relax, baby…chill…” He pressed his nose to her neck and inhaled deeply, enjoying the sensations she ignited in him. His baby had been real sensitive lately and even the smallest thing seemed to hurt her heart. He hated to see her upset, or in any kind of pain. He loved the hell outta this girl. They’d been through a lot together and he would never do anything to hurt her.
He licked her neck and pulled her closer. She had his nose open so wide that he could smell her soul, and it smelled like a lifetime of happiness.
“Stop boo…” she moaned as his fingers brushed lightly against her nipples. “Quese just ran upstairs to get something. She’s gonna be back in a second…”
The groom ignored her. Her mouth was talking noise but the hands gripping his thighs and pulling him closer were saying something totally different.
He abandoned her full breasts and ran his fingers down her bare back and over the mound of her ass. She smelled like strawberries and the fabric of her dress was like nothing he had ever felt before. He parted her lips with his tongue, and delved into her mouth, exploring the warm wetness he had come to know so well.
She murmured a soft protest. “Boy, you’re gonna jack up my makeup…”
“Sshhh…just let me get some real quick…” he whispered, giving less than a damn about her makeup. His baby was so gorgeous she didn’t have to wear none of that shit anyway. She had a natural beauty that nothing a man made and put in a bottle could compete with.
He squeezed her tighter, crushing her against his chest. She moaned again as his lips trailed down her silky skin. Pushing his nose down the front of her dress, he nipped the swollen mounds of her breasts.
“Uh-uh,” she whispered, swaying against him as he lifted the miles of material that pooled around her ankles. “It’s almost time to go upstairs…we got people up there waiting…”
Their hands were tangled in lace as the bride fought to keep her wedding dress down and the groom fought for what he wanted: to feel that softness she was hiding underneath.
She sighed deeply, and when he felt her body relax he grinned because he knew he had her. The groom chuckled. His baby liked to fuck just as much as he did. He was about to marry one of those “come-get-it-anytime-anywhere” type of chicks and he loved it.
“Yeah, that’s it,” he said with approval as she gave in to him. He gripped her hips, and then slid his hands together and cupped her thick, fluffy ass.
“Sshhh…” he muffled the last of her protests with slight pressure from his lips. “Just let me taste a little bit…” He lowered his aim, planting kisses down her body as he headed south of her navel. “Just let me lick it baby…”
Bracing herself against her chair, the bride spread her legs and leaned back as her man squatted down and lifted her wedding dress. He gathered its bulk above her waist and stared at the stark white garter belt and G-string she wore beneath her clothing. Her tummy was flat and her waist was cinched. Her hips were perfect, and her lower lips were neatly shaved.
He glanced up at her and saw the sexual heat in her eyes and sucked in his breath. He knew what she liked and he was just about to give it to her.
But suddenly she paused. Listening.
“Somebody’s coming!” she whispered, pulling him to his feet and yanking down her dress. “DarQuese is back!”
The groom listened too, but what he heard was the ominous click-clack of a cocking gat. He was on the move even before the door burst open. A gun blast shattered the silence as he leaped on top of his woman, completely covering her with his large frame.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
&nb
sp; A hot slug penetrated his lower back and the groom flinched and wrapped himself around his bride, enveloping her in his protective embrace. The bullet sped through his body and continued on its path, piercing the bride-to-be’s precious tummy.
The groom toppled forward and both of them went down, knocking over the chair and sending makeup vials and water bottles flying off the counter.
Helpless under his weight, the bride absorbed the force of the impact. Her slender back splintered painfully against the chair, and the base of her head slammed into the dressing table as they plummeted to the floor. She lay beneath him stunned, bleeding, and writhing in agony.
“Stay down, baby,” the groom gasped. His full weight crushed her and his lips were warm against her ear. He groaned loudly and reached for her hand, lacing his fingers through hers. “I got you, baby girl,” he panted. “Just stay down.”
The room spun in looping circles as the bride battled her throbbing pain and the approaching darkness that was slowly snuffing out her light. Warm blood seeped from her body as she fought to stay conscious. She tried to hold tight to her man’s hand, but both of them were slowly losing their grip.
A voice raked over the young lovers as they lay bleeding together on the dressing room floor, and even through her fiery haze of pain the bride felt an icy finger of fear run down her spine.
“Gino…” she whimpered, breathing hard beneath him.
“Stay down…” the groom whispered one final time. “I got you, baby. Just stay…”
Footsteps sounded as the shooter stormed over to the downed couple. Their hands were lifted roughly, and the bride’s ring-finger was bent and twisted until the ten-carat hunk of ice she wore slid free. Pinned beneath her man, the last voice the beautiful, young, almost-bride-to-be heard before her world pitched to black belonged to a killer.
“That’s right,” the shooter rasped in a cold, greedy voice. “Stay down and give me that goddamn ring.”
CHAPTER 18
Izzy was sweatin’.
Fifteen minutes had passed since his man Zero had disappeared through the church doors, and every few seconds he glanced toward the building hoping to see that long-legged niggah coming back out. A huge batch of colorful flowers had arrived from Inez Florist, and a preacher and a bunch of little kids had just been dropped off at the front door.
Izzy was reaching into his jacket pocket to get his cell phone, when the shit hit the fan. He heard the screams even before the front door of the church burst open. His stomach tightened into a hard ball as a skinny old woman in a lime green hat and matching shoes ran outside screaming, “They got shot! They got shot! Lord, Jesus! Call an ambulance! They got shot!”
At least twenty-five people erupted out the door right behind her, and a young mother screamed as her little girl tripped and fell and got trampled by the fleeing crowd.
“Ohhhh damn!” Izz muttered under his breath. That crazy muh’fucka! This shit had Zero written all over it. He’d told him not to go in there fuckin’ nothing up!
The faint sound of sirens could be heard in the distance. Izz didn’t know if it was an ambulance or the police, and he was way too smart to wait around and find out.
He ran over to his limo and snatched open the door. Shouts and wails were coming from inside the church, and Izzy knew that anybody on the scene when the cops got there was gonna get grilled. And just how the fuck was he supposed to explain the two dead muh’fuckas in the trunk that him and Zero had popped for their chauffeur uniforms and their extra-long whips?
“Stupid-ass niggah!” Izz spit. He had just slammed the door and put the limo in drive when he saw Zero running out the church holding up his pants. Izz shifted the gear to park again, and then jumped back out and ran toward his partner-in-crime.
“Yo, muh’fucka! What the fuck did you just do?”
There was no mistaking the look of confusion on Zero’s face as he shrugged and tried to zip up his pants. “I took a shit, niggah!” he barked. “All I did was take a fuckin’ shit!”
Izz shook his head. “Then what the fuck just happened in there, man?” he demanded. “You ain’t pop ’em, did you? Yo, niggah! Don’t tell me you went in there and blasted them muh’fuckas!”
The truth shone bright in Zero’s killer eyes as he shook his head and jetted toward his ride.
“Nah, slime,” he spit over his shoulder. “I ain’t shoot ’em! Word is bond, I didn’t!”
He nodded toward the panicked crowd that was pouring out the church’s doors.
“But some fuckin’ body did!”
