“I stand corrected,” Percy said staring at him in disbelief.

“Don’t worry Quinn,” Tyre said slapping his leg. “Five more hours to go,” he said winking at Percy.

“Fucking great,” Quinn said wincing again.

“Then we fuel up in St. Johns and its back up into the air,” Tyre said taking another swig while laughing.

“Maybe I’ll just take a cab from there,” Quinn said now actually trying to consciously stop from morphing, unsuccessfully.

Percy leaned in beside Quinn trying not to laugh. “If you think about it eh, it’s five, five and a half hours but, it’s a three and a half hour time difference, so really, it’s like. . .” Percy blows his lips as he tries to do the math in his drunken state. “Two hours tops.” He holds up his glass and smiles. “Fuck boys, were practically there,” he declared taking another drink.

“What the hell are you talking about?” Quinn asked confused.

Percy just started to laugh and put his arm around him. “I’m talking about you being so fucking stupid,” he said and gave him a big kiss on the cheek.

“So after we fill up in St. Johns, were going straight to the well,” Tyre said getting serious.

“The well,” Percy repeated calming down. “I thought we were going straight to Chicago, why do you want to see the man down the well?”

“We’re in the area. It might be time.”

“To what, I’m sure he went bat shit crazy a century ago,” Percy said pouring more rum.

“I think he’s right Boss, anything he tells us now will just be the ramblings of a mad man,” Quinn said no longer morphing.

“We’ll see,” Tyre said smiling and drinking his rum.

“The man in the well it is then,” Percy said offering Quinn a drink of his rum and putt it just under his nose. Turning away like the smell was going to make him sick only made Tyre and Percy laugh harder. “Fucking Puss,” Percy said and laughed harder.

THREE: 25 Miles outside of Yazoo City

The car pulled into the gas station setting off the bells beside the pump. A young attendant came out and greeted the Preacher getting out of the car.

“How much sir?” the young man asked grabbing the nozzle and turning the pump on.

“Fill it up if you please,” the Preacher said.

“You got it,” he said removing the gas cap and sticking the nozzle in.

“Beautiful night,” the Preacher said looking up at the sky.

“Sure is, better if I didn’t have to work.”

The Preacher laughed. “I’m sure it would be.”

“Where you heading?” the kid asked making small talk.

  “Chicago.”

“Never been,” the young man admitted. “Never been anywhere really.”

“Wonderful city,” he said almost excited to be going.

“Business or pleasure?” the kid asked checking the meter.

“Business I’m afraid,” he said with a hint of disappointment. “When serving the Father it is always business,” the Preacher said looking to the sky.

“At least you get to travel.”

“Yes, the Father has me going all over the world,” he said walking behind his car and opening the trunk. Grabbing a couple of bills out of the briefcase that laid on top of two dead mobsters he heard the slightest shift of movement on the concrete. He didn’t even have to raise his head to know the young man had followed him back and saw what was inside the trunk. The kid was quick and if he had not been a Monster the Preacher might not have noticed. But he was, and he did.

“And I guess your clergy just gives you assignments?” he asked trying to act as natural as possible. Wishing he had shoved his knife in his pocket before coming out he wondered if he should come up with an excuse to go back and get it and call the police.

“Something like that,” the Preacher said and closed the trunk.

The nozzle violently clicked and stopped. Pulling it out the young attendant shut it off and placed it back. Looking at the front of the pump he checked the cost and decided he would call the police when he goes to make change. “That’ll be-” Turning around he found the Preacher already standing in front of him. His eyes seemed to glow while fangs extruded from his mouth. “What the fu-”A loud crackle like celery being twisted ended his sentence. Dropping to the ground the young attendant lay lifeless on the cold concrete.

“I am truly sorry my boy,” the Preacher said apologetically. Grabbing the young man by the ankle he dragged him around the back of the car. Opening the trunk he picked the boy up, as one would with a bag of groceries, and dropped him inside. He paused for a moment. “Waste not, want not I suppose,” he said tearing off the boy’s arm. Blood sprayed across the trunk painting the plastic and metal. “Suppose I should have gotten the extra insurance,” he chuckled to himself and slammed the trunk shut.

Throwing the severed arm through the window he opened the door and slid in. Starting the car he sat looking out beyond the highway. “Lily,” he said quietly to himself and grabbed the arm bleeding on the passenger seat. “Needed some snacks anyways.” Biting into the flesh of the separated limb he pulled his head back looking like he was eating a piece of human taffy.

The car pulled out onto the highway. Heading down the black stretch of road the red lights glared back at the empty gas station. From the office “Blue on Blue” by Bobby Vinton played on the radio.

Finally the red tail lights disappeared into the distant night, getting that much closer to their destination . . . Chicago.

  MY BOYFRIEND IS A MONSTER

  II

  Dear Reader.

I hope you enjoyed the story and are looking forward to the next.

This was always a story about Lily, and in this book I wanted to introduce her, her plight and hint at the extraordinary world she is about to enter. It will be filled with danger and horror that she has only just discovered by Nathan revealing himself. This story was about her finding her courage and strength within herself, something she is going to need in the very near future. It started with her leaving an abusive relationship, finding a life in friends who became family, standing up for herself when the danger of going back was presented and finding the determination and will to fight back. I believed I did that in Chapter 17. And with that I hope the ending was very satisfying.

Along with the many questions of certain events and certain people, I did want to leave open on purpose. I wanted questions to be asked in hopes of adding to the anticipation for the next story. Bringing me to Chapter 18, which was actually going to be Chapter 1 of the second book, including Chapter 16, which was going to be a flashback, or a stop after the gas station (I was not even going to add the Preacher until the 2nd book). Now I feel that I have given a proper ending to this story and built a good level of anticipation for the next. The Raven and the Crow are only a few hours from Chicago, Tyre and company are heading their direction as well with talk about a “Man down a well”. The Preacher did not mention Nathan at all, he said “Lily”, and he will be in Chicago shortly. Why did Nathan murder that woman in the alley? Did he eat Rick? When will he go home? Will Lily go with him? What will happen when Marcus discovers Lily? Why is Marcus after Nathan? If Nathan is so powerful why doesn’t he just kill Marcus? Why isn’t Merrick just tracking him? Will Lily tell Todd about Nathan? Will Todd warn Lily when the drugs wear off?

All those questions will be answered in the next book, I promise.

Lilies world is about to get much bigger and a lot more dangerous. But I believe she is ready. With the help of her new Love, her family and the family she has yet to meet.

I believe she is ready for anything.
