Erin's Unexpected Lover
Page 3
“I feel amazing,” he said softly, burying his hands in her hair to caress the now-frizzy curls. “I’ve wanted you for so long.”
Her eyes widened. “What?”
Jared looked uncomfortable. “It’s not easy to want to have your son’s girlfriend, to think about her, fantasize about her.” He cupped one of her breasts, lightly rubbing the nipple. “I’ve imagined you like this a hundred times in the last couple of months, since the first night Chip brought you home to meet me.”
“Oh.” That was unexpected, and maybe a tad alarming. How could such a hot, confident man like him lust after her? She was only a few months into her first semester of college and had nothing to offer him. She voiced the thought aloud. “You can’t want me, Jared. I’m nothing. I have nothing. I don’t even have parents. They’re both losers. If my older sister wasn’t so decent, I’d still be living in foster care.”
He shrugged. “I don’t give a damn about any of that.” His hand crept lower, to cover her stomach. “Besides, you can give me something I want very much, and that’s a family. I’ve always wanted more children, and someday, if you’re ready, I’d like you to be their mother. I want you.”
Her head whirled, and she blinked, certain she was dreaming. “You mean, like long-term want me?” At his nod, she blinked again. “Wow.” How did she respond to that? “Well, that’s…”
“Overwhelming and too much pressure,” he said decisively. “I’m not going to force you into anything. I wouldn’t even try to compel you to have my baby if you get pregnant tonight. That’s your decision.”
Erin shook her head. “Termination is not a decision I would ever make. I support a woman’s right to decide for herself, but I already know I couldn’t have an abortion, except maybe under some very limited circumstances.”
He seemed pleased. “That still leaves you the option of emergency contraceptive. Shall I send Mr. Edwin to the drugstore?”
Erin giggled, trying to imagine the stuffy, starched butler buying Plan B. “No, that’s an indignity from which he might never recover.”
“Well, you have ninety-six hours to take it, if you decide to.”
Snuggling closer, she licked his nipple before responding. “I don’t think I will. I kind of feel like this was all fate or something. Like tonight was supposed to happen, so whatever happens was meant to as well.” She frowned. “Is that hopelessly ridiculous?”
He shook his head. “It’s beautiful.”
Scooting closer, Erin put her arm around him. “So, will you marry me if I’m pregnant?” It was a bold question, but she was only partially teasing. She yearned to know just how serious he was, and how long-term he envisioned.
“Honey, I’d marry you if you weren’t pregnant,” he said with utter conviction. “I’d fly you to Vegas tonight and elope if you’d let me.” Jared put up a hand. “But I’m not suggesting that. This is all new, and you deserve time to adjust, to figure out if this is what you want.”
“Plus, I have to tell my sister.” She drew her bottom lip between her teeth. Megan might not be thrilled to find out she was contemplating a relationship with a man old enough to be her father. Flexing her hand, she caressed his abs. Not that he looked or felt like a father.
“So, we wait and see what happens?”
She nodded. “I think I know what might happen next.” Wrapping her hand around his semi-flaccid cock, she stroked him to hardness again.
“I think you might be a fortune teller,” said Jared with a laugh, drawing her against him for a repeat performance.
Epilogue
Eighteen months later, Erin married Jared with their nine-month-old daughter near them, in Aunt Megan’s arms. It hadn’t been a shock to find herself pregnant after that night, especially since they’d indulged in several more careless nights that week, before making an effort to get birth control. Being pregnant hadn’t meant she was ready for such a serious step as marriage, and they had spent a lot of time getting to know each other and deciding their futures belonged together.
As she danced in her husband’s arms, with Zoe cuddled between them, she looked around. Chip was over at the bar, sloppy drunk and with his arm around some girl, who seemed to have borrowed a dress that was two sizes too small. She felt a well of pity for the boy who was now her stepson, but that was it. Chip didn’t approve of their marriage, but she couldn’t do anything to change that. All she could do was ensure her husband still offered support and communicated with Chip, while hoping he sorted everything out before fucking up his life permanently.
Zoe squealed, earning both her parents’ attention. “I think she’s wet,” said Jared.
Her breasts were aching, and she shook her head. “No, I think she needs to nurse.” It was past time, going by Zoe’s usual pattern. “We’ll just slip away to the dressing room for a few minutes.”
He nodded, his eyes on her milk-heavy breasts, displayed to full advantage by the cut of the dress. “Save some for me,” he said with a wink.
“You’re depraved,” she said with an indulgent chuckle, unwilling to admit just how erotic she found it when he sucked on her milk-laden breasts. It was completely different from when Zoe did it, of course. With her baby, it was a warmly maternal thing. With Jared, it transformed into something hot, naughty, and mutually satisfying.
His eyes grew serious, and he drew her forward for a deep kiss. “I love you, Mrs. Maxwell.”
Erin drew back a bit, finding it difficult to tear herself from her husband’s embrace, even though milk was starting to trickle into the pads protecting her wedding dress. “I love you too, Mr. Maxwell.” Later that night, she would find several ways to remind him just how much.

Eighteen-year-old Liv may be a virgin, but she knows what she wants. Ex-Marine David, who is nursing scars from the wound that ended his military career, is just the man to make her a woman. Boys her own age bore Liv, and the fact that he’s sixteen years older just means he’ll have more experience. For David, Liv is temptation itself, but he can’t betray his friend by sleeping with his daughter. He has honorable intentions until Liv tells him the one thing guaranteed to smash his self-control. She wants to have David’s baby…
Chapter One
Liv checked the top button of her sleep shirt to make sure she had left it, and the next one under it, unbuttoned. Looking down, she was pleased to see a decent amount of cleavage displayed by the silky garment. An equally impressive expanse of her lightly tanned legs stretched below the hem of the lavender shirt. The set normally included shorts, which she always wore when her dad was home, but not today. She’d also toyed with the idea of not wearing underwear, but had decided that would be too blatant.
David was at the kitchen table, his laptop opened before him as he sipped a mug of coffee. Typing with one hand, he held a piece of toast in the other. Completely engrossed by his task, it gave her another welcomed opportunity to study the object of her youthful fantasies.
He had let his hair grow out in recent weeks, and the light-brown locks were an unruly mass of curls that gave the hardened soldier a softened, somewhat boyish edge. Even after three weeks as a civilian, he still had perfect posture and seemed to be awaiting orders to slip from at-ease to full attention, though he was probably unaware of that. She imagined after sixteen years in the Marines that on-edge alertness was second nature. No telling how long it would take the former Master Sergeant to
shed that innate training.
Oh, she would love to give him the order to stand at attention and prepare for inspection. Her fingers itched to slide up the T-shirt hugging his muscular torso, to slip inside his jogging pants and touch the hot length of flesh within. If his large hands and feet were any indicator, she’d find more than a handful.
The reality of never having actually touched a man that intimately did little to detract from the dizzying rush of adrenaline that accompanied the mental image. How she wanted David Longe. She didn’t care if he was sixteen years older than her, or her father’s friend and former subordinate. Boys her age were boring and inexperienced. She wanted a real man for her first lover. Her only lover, if David felt even half as strongly for her as she did about him.
That brought an abrupt, screeching halt to her fantasies. That was the problem. He’d been staying with them for three weeks and never gave any indication that he saw her as more than Denny Monroe’s daughter. She might as well be wearing pigtails and a short dress for all the notice he’d paid to her body.
Hmm, maybe that would get his attention, if he had the stereotypical naughty schoolgirl fantasy. Stifling a giggle, she padded into the kitchen on bare feet, stopping by the fridge for a glass of orange juice. “Do you want one?” She lifted up the pitcher she’d taken from the fridge when he glanced in her direction. He shook his head, and she turned away from him. On the off chance he was still watching, she stretched to get a glass from the highest shelf, very aware of the hem of her silk pajama shirt riding up several inches to nestle just a little below her panties.
After pouring a glass, she returned the pitcher to the fridge and turned toward the table. With what she hoped was a casual reach, she leaned across David to grab a piece of toast from the stack, making sure the weight of her right breast settled against his bicep for a long second. As she straightened, Liv got a good look at his computer screen, scowling when she realized he was setting up a profile on an online dating site.
Still feeling annoyed at the proof he was planning to start dating, she stalked to the chair across from him and threw herself down. “Why are you doing that?”
He looked up at her. “What?”
Liv gestured toward the computer. “That dating site. Why would you need to do that? Women must throw themselves at you.” She’d happily do so if she thought he’d do anything besides gently pick her up, move her off the table, and return to his laptop.
The tops of his ears took on a pink tinge of embarrassment. God, he was adorable.
David cleared his throat. “Uh, well, there aren’t that many places around here to meet the kind of woman I want.”
“What kind of woman?” She chewed her toast with nonchalance, though her heart was racing in her ears as she waited for a scrap of information she could file away.
“I want to settle down.” He rubbed his side apparently unconsciously. “Since that bullet forced me to retire from the Corps, I don’t have much reason to keep pursuing dead-end relationships. I’ll be in one place now, so I’d like to get married and start a family.”
She nodded. “You can’t meet marrying women around here?”
David shook his head. “Not that I’ve seen. The women at the bars usually aren’t looking to settle down, and I’m not the church type.”
Liv nodded. “Yeah, me neither. Dad tried dragging me a few times, but I just don’t buy into any of it. I don’t think he did either, since he stopped going a short time later. Mostly, I think it was ‘cause Mom had gone, and he thought I should too. Or something.”
David nodded. “I remember Denny telling me about six years ago that he didn’t think Lisa would have approved of him stopping, but there didn’t seem to be any point in forcing you to go when you spent the whole time arguing with the pastor or rolling your eyes. You were…eight?”
“Twelve.” She frowned. “I’m eighteen now. Do I look fourteen?” It took every ounce of will power not to cross her fingers and plead aloud that he’d say no.
For just a second, his gaze dipped to her shadowed cleavage, and a hint of heat flared in his eyes. The next second, he’d blinked and eradicated all signs. “Sorry. I’m not good at guessing kids’ ages.”
Liv gnashed her teeth together. How dare he call her a kid? She wasn’t a kid. She was a woman. Well, not quite, but there was just one more step to take to officially enter womanhood. She wanted David to be the one to initiate her, but when he spoke like that, it crushed her hopes.
With a sigh, she swallowed the rest of her juice and got up from the table. “Good luck with your dating site,” she said, striving to sound unconcerned, but afraid she came across kind of bratty. Pausing by the sink, she put her glass in and walked out of the kitchen without looking back. It was time to give up on David—if only she could figure out how.

David exhaled the pent-up breath he’d been holding when Liv left the kitchen. She was damned distracting. Shifting slightly, he moved the seam of the jogging pants away from his hard cock, wincing at the way the fabric had dug into his flesh. Much as he didn’t want to react that way to his commanding officer’s daughter—though Denny hadn’t been his commander for a good ten years—he couldn’t control the physical reaction. What straight man could keep his hard-on in check around that lush, nubile body so temptingly displayed in the brief silk sleep shirt? It was all he could do not to grab her when she’d reached across him for toast and pull her onto his lap. He’d wanted to pull her down on top of his erection and grind it against the wet heat between her legs as he twined his hands in that lustrous fall of black hair.
Only imagining how frightened she’d be to have an “old man” suddenly groping her had held him back. Well, that and his own sense of right and wrong. It was wrong to lust after a girl sixteen years younger than he was. It was especially wrong if that girl was his friend’s daughter, and so wrong there were no words for it when he considered Denny had gone on a business trip with the unspoken expectation that David would look after Liv, not fuck her.
So, it was only sensible to force his attention back to the dating site and browse the available profiles. He gritted his teeth and pretended his dick wasn’t still aching with want for Liv as he narrowed his search parameters. It was simple to get rid of the traits he didn’t want and to emphasize the ones he did. At the top of his list was a woman also looking to have children. He had been truthful with Liv that he wanted to get married and have a family. That was yet another reason to keep himself in check around the young woman. She wouldn’t be ready to settle down and have kids when her life was just starting, and he was sick of short-term relationships that did nothing besides slake his lust.
David groaned softly as his mind insisted on conjuring an image of Liv pregnant with his child. He could easily picture putting his hands on her swollen stomach before cupping her breasts. They were already nicely filled out, but no doubt pregnancy would make them fuller. Her pussy would probably be soaking wet, because pregnant women were always wetter down there. He’d love to put his face between her thighs and inhale her fecund scent, knowing his baby was just a few inches above.
