I stood up from between the other two with a jerk.

“Where are you going, Casper?” Gemma called after me, but I ignored her. I wasn’t going to wait. It was getting impossible to bear. Despite being with Lily for nearly six years, knowing her inside out… my girlfriend was the most unpredictable person I knew. Which was what I loved about her most. She kept me on my toes. Which also meant that this particular day was making me more nervous than anything ever had.

She saw me walking toward her, and she passed me a smile, but didn’t stop playing with Audrey.

I was determined now, I was a man on a mission. I was going to do everything in my power to hold Lily down, make her mine for life.

I stopped in my tracks as I saw her running toward me, backward, so that she didn’t know that I was blocking her path.

“Watch out!” Audrey squealed, but it was too late. Lily came crashing into me, the ball flew over our heads, and we both tumbled down together on the sand.

Her red mane surrounded my face and she broke into fits of laughter.

“Have I crushed you? Are you okay?” she asked, still giggling, and I reached out with both my hands to brush her hair away from her face.

She must have noticed the softened look in my eyes, because she just remained there, lying on me. We were staring into each other’s faces, and her smile was fading. She knew that I was going to say something.

“Lily, will you marry me?” I asked, as I felt her settle her legs between my own thighs.

Her blue eyes widened, and she seemed to be dumbstruck for a few moments.

“I was going to wait until dinner, for the band in the background, to get down on one knee…” I said in a rush, but she only licked her lips. She hadn’t said a word yet.

“I have a ring for you, it’s in my pocket,” I said and I made to extract it from my pants, and she shook her head.

Tears welled up in her eyes. “It’s not about the ring, Casper,” she said and I was panicking again. I should have known; she was going to say no! Lily didn’t believe in marriage. She wasn’t going to be my wife.

“I’m just in shock,” she blurted and then she was laughing again.

She got to her feet, and I stood up, too, only to get down on one knee in front of her. She was standing above me, sand caked on her bikini and in her hair now. She had cupped her mouth with both her hands, and I sensed that the others had gathered in a group behind us. I’d gone off course; none of them were prepared. The hot air balloon wasn’t ready to be sent off. All my plans had fallen through.

I took the box out of my pocket and opened it. A hexagonal white diamond with a row of smaller diamonds down the platinum sides. She hadn’t said yes yet, but then she hadn’t said no either.

“Lily Fitz, will you do me the honor of being my wife? I want to have a family with you and spend the rest of my days waking up with you beside me…” I stopped when I saw her nodding vigorously. She was laughing now, and I took the ring out of the box to slip it into her finger.

I stood up, dragging her into my arms. She buried her face in my chest and I could sense that she was crying. Tears of joy.

Over her shoulder, I could see the others; Vincent holding Gemma by the waist, her hand on her bump. Nash and Bonnie holding hands, Audrey in Nash’s arms. They were all smiling at me, and I smiled back at them. Five years had changed nothing; adding the women to our lives had only made my friendship with these men stronger.

It was the happiest day of my life, and I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to share it with.

  The End

  About the Author

For years, all Kira ever wanted to do is write her own books. After ghost writing a few best sellers for other authors, she realized it was time to start taking credit for her own work. Her personal struggles in relationships and finances had driven her to start doing what she loves, which is writing full time.

She first took to writing when she was a teenager. She fell in love with a boy who didn’t love her quite as much as she loved him. She admits this was partly due to her being slightly overweight and seriously insecure. This painful experience drove her to start practicing her craft. If she couldn’t have the love of her life, she would create Mr. Right in her romance novels, and maybe give him a few embellishments.

Through the experience of dieting, somewhat, and doing what she love’s full time she has gained back some confidence and found companionship, half man half kitty, and has found her calling.

We hope you enjoy her books and wish you the best in this crazy thing called life.
