"But at the time, with all the backing the Adler family had, I deemed it unwise to say anything."
His father's shoulders slumped. "You're right, of course. That man was a menace, and even if you tried to approach your mother's people, you would have risked a great deal." He shook his head. "Let's start over."
This time, he was the one to extend his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, too, Mr. St. Claire. Now... What's this about a pregnancy?"
