Your Own Worst Enemy

I couldn’t ask for a better school to work at than Los Altos High School. The students and staff there inspire me daily with their commitment to learning and social justice. While some of the details that appear in this book come from my school, the book does not reflect my lived experience of working there. The students and staff are examples of excellence in public education. I’m proud to be included in their ranks and hope to match their intelligence, empathy, and work ethic someday.

I love my family and wouldn’t be able to do any of this without their encouragement and support. Thanks to Mom, Dad, Lisa, Jeff, Charlie, Cooper, Juan, Rachel, Ricky, Alex, and Daniel. Henry, you’re the best son a dad could ask for. Kathleen, you’re pretty great too. Maybe you’ll read this book since it’s dedicated to you.

GORDON JACK always wanted to be a writer. In third grade, he put that on his “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up” list, just behind astronaut and professional dog walker. While working toward this goal, he had jobs as an advertising copywriter, English teacher, librarian, and semiprofessional dog walker. The Boomerang Effect was his first novel. He lives in San Francisco with his family. Visit him online at www.gordon-jack.com or on Twitter @gordojack.
