“Hi,” my voice soft. I bite my lip holding the door open for him.

“Hey,” he says, his voice sounding like pure sex, the just got out of bed type.

I try my hardest to contain the little shiver that runs straight to my pussy like a lightning bolt. Motherfucker, this is going to be a long-ass, fucking weekend.

He steps inside, looks around, and spots my bags on the ground. “Are these the only bags you’ll be taking?” he asks.

I nod my head because, at this point, I don’t think I can open my mouth without moaning from the shiver I just had.

“I’ll take them down to the car now and then I’ll come back up and say bye to my sister.” He lifts my bags up like they’re nothing at all and heads right back out the door. Once I shut the door, I groan lightly. There’s a throat clearing behind me. My eyes go wide, shit. I turn to see Jade and April standing there.

“Don’t even say a word,” I hiss at Jade and she chuckles, putting her hands up.

“My lips are sealed,” she says, putting her hand to her mouth, indicating she’s locking her lips and throwing away the key. She better.

April is standing there looking lost about what Jade said.

“He’s coming right back to say bye to you before we leave,” I utter out and April nods. She loves her brother fiercely and it’s understandable that she’s questioning how I feel about him. I know that, but it hurts a little knowing she’s worried that I’ll end up breaking his heart or something. I’m more worried that he’ll break me than I am of me breaking him.

A moment later Mike comes back. Without knocking, he opens the door and smiles when he sees his sister. She smiles and runs over to him and hugs him. I don’t know why I’m jealous of her hugging him, but I am. I don’t know what the hell is going on inside my head, but I know that I’m a royal, fucking mess when it comes to this man.

“Drive safe,” April mutters into her brother’s shoulder.

He releases her and looks down at her. “You know I always do. I’ll see you Sunday when I get back. I want to know what’s going on with you. You’ve been quiet and distant lately and I want to know why. We usually talk about everything and you’ve been closed off to whatever that is bothering you,” he says in his brotherly tone and she nods her head. He gives her a quick side hug, nods to Jade, and looks to me.

  “Ready?” he asks.

“Yup, let’s get this show on the road.” I want to face palm myself right now. Let’s get this show on the road? Jade covers her snicker with a cough. I glare at her and she grins at me.

  “Have fun,” she says.

  “Be careful,” April says.

Mike and I make our way to his car and I feel like this will be the longest four hours of my life.

  Chapter 6

We’ve been driving for about two hours and I haven’t said a fucking word to Mike about Mason yet. I’m acting like a fucking chicken-shit because I should have told him by now. Nope, my mouth was screwed tighter than a whore on pay day.

I wring my hands together. I need to get this over with and tell him. Maybe I should start off the conversation asking him about his life, his ex maybe? Or would that bring up too much shit from his past? What the hell, I don’t want to just come out and yell ‘hey, I got a son and he’s six’. I don’t think that would go over too well.

“Umm, April mentioned that you got out of a relationship within the last year or so,” I say mildly.

He grunts. “Yeah I did. Why are you asking?”

Now I’m in for it. Hell, asking him this, it’s like the next step in my little head of knowing him and our friendship, or whatever you would call this, goes forward one step.

“Just trying to make small talk, that’s all. If you would rather not talk about it I understand,” I shoot out.

He chuckles lightly. “No, it’s fine. You asked for a reason. My ex-fiancé, Taryn, was my everything. Well, I thought she was my everything. It turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong. She knew how much I wanted to get married and start a family. She knew that when we got together. I never hid the fact that was what I wanted. She seemed to have wanted that too, then something changed. Or she was only acting like she wanted a family the whole time.” He sighs broken heartedly and then continues. “About a week before the wedding I overheard her talking to a friend and she mentioned that she was not planning on starting a family anytime soon and it broke me. I left and didn’t talk to anymore for two days. She ruined what I thought would be the happiest time in my life.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. What did you end up doing? Well, I know you didn’t go through with it because here you are, ring-less,” I blab out. I can see the smirk on his face.

“Well, after two days of moping and being pissed off with the world, I went back to confront her. She denied it and when I told her I overheard her, you could tell by the look that she had on her face that she was caught. I told her the wedding wasn’t happening and man, did she put up one hell of a fight. She said she loved me and would do anything for me. Even have a family with me. I didn’t want her to do it just because she loves me, I wanted her to have a family with me because she wanted to, not just to make me happy.”

I nod my head when he’s finished replaying what happened. Poor guy. “Wow, I’m sorry you had to go through that.”

He waves me off. “I don’t like living in the past. It doesn’t bother me as much as it used too,” he replies.

He’s quiet for a minute then he asks me the question I’ve been dreading when I sat down in this car. “So, what about you? Anything big in your life?”.

Oh crap, well here goes nothing. “I was never engaged, if that’s what you’re asking. I thought I was in love with my ex, Jeff. He was my high school sweetheart and everything was great till I got pregnant.” When the word pregnant comes out of my mouth, Mikes eyes go so wide that I swear his eyebrows almost hit his hairline. I continue before he gets the chance to say anything. “I was happy. I wanted to have the baby because being a mom was something I’ve always wanted. Jeff seemed happy too, but after I had Mason he was a totally different person. He was always out drinking and not coming home when he was supposed to. He barely touched me. I felt hopeless and abandoned. I was twenty-one, I didn’t know much about motherhood. So, I left him and went to stay with my parents.” I sigh at the memory of showing up at my parent’s door, heartbroken.

“What happened?” Mike asks, his voice tight.

“Well, Jeff ended up at my parent’s door three days later, begging me to give him another chance.” I shake my head, remembering him looking so heartbroken. It was all a lie. He didn’t want me back, he wanted his cleaning lady back. “Of course, stupid me. I thought maybe we could work on whatever it was we had, but, as you can see it didn’t work out.”

  “What happened to the baby?”

“Mason, my little man, lives with my parents for now. I’ve been working for the past five years, trying to make enough money to buy a house and give Mason a better life.” I stumble over my words a little.

Mike reaches over and grabs my hand, giving it a little squeeze. He pulls over and puts the car in park. He turns to look at me and his eyes are full of acceptance mixed with lust. “You’re amazing,” he says, staring at my lips. I thought he would be pissed about finding out I have a son.

“Is that why you’ve been distant?” he asks.

  I nod my head.

“I’m assuming I’ll be meeting Mason this weekend.”

Again, I nod my head and he smiles.

Before I know what is happening his seatbelt is off his shoulder and his lips are on mine. The taste of his mouth of mine is driving me insane with lust. Man, it’s been way too long since I’ve tasted a real man. I want him more than ever right now, but as if I’m pulled away from my heated self, looking around. We’re on the side of a highway, cars are going by non-stop. I pull back and he leans his forehead against mine. He mutters something I don’t catch.

  “What was
what?” I ask.

He chuckles lightly against my lips, giving me another kiss. “I said, no more pushing me away. No more running. After tasting those sweet lips of yours I don’t think I can go a day without tasting them again.”

My panties are ruined, absolutely ruined. I give him a smile.

He locks himself back in and we pull out back onto the highway.

“I guess we won’t have to pretend this weekend after all,” he mentions.

I can’t help but giggle at the fact that he’s right.

We pull up to my parent’s house. He shuts off the car and turns to me with a serious look on his face. “I hope that your mother called Jeff to tell him not to bother showing up for supper,” he growls under his breath. Fuck, it’s sexy as hell to see him all possessive. My inner vixen is very happy with the fact he doesn’t want to share me.

“I’m sure she got a hold of him. If not, then we’ll deal with it when he comes. I don’t think he’ll try anything with you by my side,” I say and he grins.

“I like that, me by your side.”

My cheeks blush a little. I haven’t had a man that I could say that about for a long time. I guess it was by my choice, but I haven’t found the right guy. The way Mike is, maybe he is just the right guy for me.

We exit the car and he comes over to me and plants a kiss on my lips.

He growls when I grind a little into him.

“I can’t wait to feel your body up against mine with nothing separating us,” he groans when I shift a little more. Just hearing him groan makes me wet with desire, the desire to have him touching me, filling me up with his cock. I want nothing more than to scream out his name, but I’m snapped out of my thoughts when I hear my son yell.

“Mommy, you’re here. Daddy should be here soon too.” My eyes shift to my son. Seeing his face so bright and happy makes my heart warm. Wait, what did he just say? Daddy should be here soon? Oh no, my mother didn’t call Jeff. Or she must have not been able to get a hold of him.

I see my son eye Mike and his features harden a little. Oh boy, I should have been worried about my son not liking Mike, not the other way around. Crap, hopefully my son goes easy on Mike and gives him a chance. I myself just warmed up to the idea of starting a relationship with him and I don’t want my son to end up hating him. I would have to walk away from Mike. Just thinking about walking away from him makes my heart hurt. I haven’t really felt this way with a man since Jeff and that was years ago. I put a smile on my face as Mason gets closer to us. I can feel Mike tensing beside me. He’s probably hoping that Mason gives him his approval.

I lean down and Mason jumps into my arms, hugging my neck tight.

“Hey, little man. You’re getting so big. Mommy’s missed you like crazy!” I mumble into his neck.

He giggles. “Mommy, that tickles.” He leans away from me, giving me his toothless grin.

“Oh my, I see you lost another tooth, did the tooth fairy come yet?” I ask, picking him up off the ground.

He nods his head excitedly and smiles again. “Yes, she left my five dollars. She must have changed her prices,” he answers, his voice sounding more grown up.

I can’t help but laugh at the fact that it was probably my father and he thought he was giving him a dollar. I shake my head and I feel Mike put his arm on my back. I look up at him and smile, then I look down to my son in my arms. “Mason, this is my good friend Mike. Mike, this is my son, Mason,” I say.

My son looks at Mike with questioning eyes. “Are you with my mommy?” His little voice sounds manly and strong. It warms my heart that he’s looking out for me and he’s only six. God, I love him with every fibre of my being.

I can see that Mike is taken back by his question and he’s stuttering as he tries to talk. He opens and closes his mouth and then stops and takes a deep breath. “Yes, I’m with your mommy. She’s amazing and means a lot to me,” he says and I blink away the tears that try to play the corner of my eyes.

I look down at Mason, praying that Mike’s answer is good enough for him to be satisfied. Mason nods his head at Mike and I grin, hugging them both. Mike chuckles while Mason whines in embarrassment.

Mason wiggles in my arms, so I put him down and I hear him yell a word I was hoping I wouldn’t have to hear from his mouth, “Daddy.”

My stomach drops as I turn around to face Jeff. He’s changed a bit since I last saw him. He’s grown into the man I always wanted him to be, but I’m not going to go down that road again.

“I guess that’s your ex,” Mike whispers into my ear softly. says softly.

I nod my head. Mike holds me to him as Jeff walks my way with Mason in his arms. They stop in front of us.

Jeff smiles at me and nods swiftly at Mike. “Hi, Sherry. How’ve you been?”

Just hearing his voice makes the memories flood back. Yes, of course, there were a few good memories, but a lot of them weren’t. I don’t hate Jeff. He gave me the one thing I love most in this world. My little man, Mason.

“I’ve been good. How have you been?” I ask.

“I’ve been good. Just started working for a construction company,” he says. He looks at Mike then back to me. “Who’s this?”

Mike puts his hand out to shake Jeff’s. Jeff takes his hand and shakes it, releasing it as quick and he took it.

“I’m Mike, Sherry’s boyfriend,” Mike says.

Jeff’s eyes say it all. He was here hoping to win me back.

I feel something for him, but what is it? Maybe it’s pity? I don’t know but I am not going to do this again with Jeff. Twice was enough.

Jeff nods his head. “I’m Jeff, Mason’s father.” He drags the word father out and I can see it’s getting to Mike, so I need to smash this before it turns ugly.

“Well, we have to get our bags upstairs,” I mention.

Jeff nods and walks to the house with Mason.

I look up at Mike and his jaw is clenched tight. I can almost hear his molars grinding together.

“Are you okay?” I ask. I know it’s a stupid question to ask him.

He grabs the bags from the car and slams the trunk closed. “I’m fine. It’s just I have a feeling that he wants you back and he probably won’t stop until he gets you back. I’m warning you, Sherry, I’ll fight for you. If he get’s in my face, I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop myself from beating his ass down to the ground,” he hisses out.

I bite my lip, what would happen? They both are the same height. I think Mike might be an inch or so taller, but besides that they seem to be evenly matched. I’m worried that this is going to go down the drain quickly and there’s not a fucking thing I can do to stop it.

  We head to the house.

As we walk up the steps the door opens and my mother is standing there with a bright smile. “Oh, my baby is home,” she squeals in delight. She squeezes me tight to her and she whispers apologetically into my ear, “I’m sorry about Jeff. I tried to contact him but I couldn’t get through.”

“It’s okay, Mom. I know you tried to call him. I just hope everything goes well during supper. I don’t want there to be a big scene with Mason around.”

She nods her head and then looks at Mike. “Well, this must be Mike. How are you?” my mother asks sweetly.

He gives her a warm smile. “I’m great, Mrs. Anders. How are you?”

My mother fans herself. Dear lord, save Mike from my piranha of a mother. She’s a sucker for dazzling smiles.

She gushes and grins. “Oh, call me Angel. Calling me Mrs. Anders makes me feel old. Supper should be ready within an hour. We’re having roast beef, with mashed potatos and glazed carrots. I hope you like roast beef.”

Mike nods his head. “I love roast beef.”

My father has listened to the whole conversation and he chuckles to my mother. “Well, darling, you’re not thirty anymore, so you’re not as young as you’d like to be.”

I bite my lip trying to contain the laugh from spilling out of my mouth as my mother gl
ares at my father.

“Oh, hush up you. You know I can go at it just like a thirty-year-old and still give you the time of your life,” she sweetly says to my father.

My cheeks burn red with embarrassment. I can’t believe my mother just said that and in front of Mike of all people. What the hell!

“Mother,” I hiss under my breath.

She grins and Mike chuckles beside me. I just want to bury myself under a rock and die. I knew my mother wouldn’t be able to restrain herself.

I hug my father quickly and mumble out that we’re going to take our bags upstairs. I glare at my mother as Mike and I march up the stairs.

I’m unpacking some of my things while Mike’s sitting on the bed watching me intently. When I grab a pair of underwear from my bag he groans loudly, looking at the thin lace that would barely cover my ass. I silently chuckle to myself. Sherry one, Mike zero.

“You brought those panties here without even knowing if we were going to…” he trails off and I nod my head.

I knew one way or another I was going to get laid. I just wasn’t sure which way I was going to go about it. Now I won’t have to work as hard as I thought I would have too.

“Oh, this?” I ask, waving the panties around with my hand. “These old things? I only own underwear like this,” I say with a grin.

He closes his eyes and adjusts himself with a groan. “Tease,” he hisses, relieving the pressure in his pants with his hand as he glares at me with longing.

I guess these past few weeks have been hard on the man. He has been trying so hard to talk to me and I wouldn’t give him the time of day. I have some making up to do. I run to the door and close it, making sure I lock it. I don’t want anyone coming in when I’m sucking poor Mike off. I grin wickedly at him and his eyes grow wide.

He smiles when I start to crawl towards him on the bed. “What are you up too?” he asks, his voice full of want.

“Well, I’m better at showing you what I’m up too,” I purr and grab his belt, loosening it. He remains still when I bring the zipper of his jeans down.

“Are you sure you want to start this with your parents and son downstairs, not to mention your ex?” He hisses the word ex.
