“She’d never move out of Dalkeith… thank god… but the fact you even thought about it… was willing to do that.” She shook her head. “I love you so much, Adele.”
I took her hand and led her to the foot of the stairs. “I want to make love with you this time, not to you.”
We bypassed the spare room and went straight into mine. “Sit there for a minute,” I said, and she sat gingerly on the edge of the bed. Then I took a couple of steps back and started to unbutton my shirt. She jumped up and grabbed my wrists, stopping me.
“You don’t have to,” she said and kissed each of my hands.
“I know,” I smiled, “but I want to.” She slumped back onto the bed and I resumed disrobing. I closed my eyes tight and turned, hanging my head. I sensed rather than saw her stand. I felt her eyes tracing the scars from the top of my neck, down my back, and over my thighs, ending in thin tendrils trickling down my calves
“Beautiful,” she whispered, awe the dominating emotion in her choked voice. I flinched when her lips touched my shoulder where the worst of the scarring leathered my body. “Okay?” she stepped back and replaced her mouth with her fingers.
“Yes.” It was nerve wracking… it was terrifying…
It was liberating.

“Wow,” I whispered as Joanne trailed her fingers down my back. My naked back. I didn’t flinch. It may have taken a few hours, a few incredibly pleasurable hours, but I was becoming accustomed to her touch.
In fact I was already addicted to it.
“You’re not going to believe me when I say this, sweetheart, but these scars aren’t repugnant nor repulsive.” She kissed my shoulders where the damage was most severe. “And I’m going to show you how beautiful and perfect and sexy I find every single part of you, for as long as you let me.”
“I want forever,” I said turning over and gazing into her shimmering eyes.
“Can I have that in writing?” she asked with a grin and I chuckled.
“If you don’t mind, I think we’ll forgo the contract this time!”
