Taming the Night (Creatures of the Night Book 1)

What he wouldn’t give for some ice cold water. His stomach rumbled reminding him of the last time he had eaten. He looked over towards the bag on the kitchen counter. He was glad he had thought to buy a few things the first time he’d gone out but it would do him little good now.
He was not going to risk his life or Al’s for a blueberry muffin. Something stirred outside and he prepared himself looking toward first one hole and then the other, a gun trained on each. He was straining so hard to hear what was coming from outside that he nearly jumped clear off the bed when Al’s arm snaked around his stomach.
He blew a breath out and laughed at her. “You scared me next to death. You want to quit layin’ in that bed and take one of these guns to help me?” he asked as he looked over his shoulder at her. She was looking at him through hooded eyes that where whiskey brown. This set off a little alarm bell in his head. There was a wolf nearby without a doubt. Why weren’t here eyes violet?
“Al?”
She wasn’t paying attention to him as her hand slid beneath his shirt to run over his abs and up his chest. She somehow managed to slip around and into his lap and she still wore nothing but the little lacey thong. Despite the situation they were in, she was still gorgeous and the feel of her against him, running her hands over him, leaning in offering her lips to him...
He stiffened and meant to reject her but the passion and fire with which she kissed him stole his resolve away. He returned the kiss and suddenly his entire body was on fire. An entire zombie army could be standing by the bed and he wouldn’t have paid any attention to them having this beautiful woman in his arms. He supposed he would already be minus one brain if he was in said zombie movie. Hell he felt like he was minus one brain anyhow. What had gotten into him today?
When she broke free and slid to her knees before him he was dazed. He had to take a few steadying breaths. This left him completely unprepared for her next attack. She caressed him through his pants as she reached for his zipper. He grabbed her hand and she looked up at him. Her gaze was distant as if she were asleep.
“What are you doing?” he asked. He tried to shake her but she was stronger than him as she pulled away.
“Just relax honey. I want to taste you, feel you in my mouth,” she said and his cock jerked in response, the traitor.
“Not here. Not like this. Not when-” He stopped talking when he looked up and saw red glowing eyes in the dark. He released her and took up his guns again, quickly taking aim. He fired without hesitation and two fell outside burning and screaming.
Without warning Al took him deep into her mouth until he was sure he was in her throat and the sensation reeked havoc on his body. “Al,” he growled as he shot out the front window. He missed and had to fire again because now she was playing with the sensitive skin on the underside of his cock. His penis pulsed and begged for more but he knew that he could not loose control.
They would be dead if that were to happen. When she took him in deep again all he could do was groan in ecstasy. He closed his eyes for one second and when he opened them again there was a creature nearly through the back wall. He took it out with one blast and lost focus again as she worked up and down his cock in a rhythm that made his eyes go crossed. What was he going to do? What the hell was he going to do? He had to keep shooting but soon he would loose all control.

Alicia pulled up in the driveway of her rancho style house. By the light of the moon it looked so magnificent with its adobe clay walls sitting out here in the middle of the desert. She reached across the front seat of her Ford Focus and grabbed the bag of subs that she’d picked up for dinner. This was like Déjà vu. She had been here before, done this before but she couldn’t remember why she though this. She shrugged as she looked up in the mirror to be sure that her scarf was tied in a flattering way around her head to protect her ears.
She hated the cold. She didn’t usually worry about the way her hair looked since it usually wasn’t beneficial to be attractive while being a detective. But when it was time to head for home, she did everything she could to look softer. She loved being soft, comforting, and pretty at home. She just wished she was a better cook. Wait… hadn’t she had these same thoughts before? She shrugged it off. As for the cooking, everyone couldn’t be good at everything. At least she was a great cop, the youngest detective in the history of her department. When she was satisfied that she looked okay she stepped out of her car and made her way towards the house.
She noticed before she got to the door that it was open a crack. This didn’t set her on alarm right away. Thomas was out walking Jazzy. Yes, that was it, he was out walking the dog and had left the door open. She pushed the door all the way open and then paused. The door was not open because her husband had forgotten to close it. It was open because it had been kicked in and was hanging by only one hinge.
Her heart slammed into her throat. She knew why this seemed familiar. It was familiar. This had all happened before. She dropped the sandwiches without a thought as she kicked in the door the rest of the way and rushed inside. What was she hoping for? A different outcome? It always happened the same way. She ran through the house.
“Thomas! Jazzy!” she called out as she made her way swiftly through the den and then the kitchen. It was with her veins throbbing with adrenaline that she looked towards the living room love seat, knowing what she would find, but she stopped cold in her tracks at what she saw. There was nothing there.
She lowered her weapon in astonishment as she rounded the corner and there… the gun slid completely to the floor with a loud clatter and she put a hand to her mouth to stifle a scream. The man that stood before her made her knees turn to mush and her eyes burn with tears.
Thomas with his strong features and bald head stood there, his deep chocolate skin shinning with vitality. He was… alive. He smiled and his straight white teeth caught her attention. She had forgotten how white his teeth were against the chocolate skin. She used to tease him and say he could be in a Colgate commercial.
“Thomas… but you’re…” She was shaking now as she moved over to the love seat and sat down. Had it all been a horrible dream? Was she just now waking up from the worst dream of her life? She looked up at him and nearly couldn’t breathe. “You’re dead.”
“What are you talkin’ about Mon Petite, and I am sorry about the door,” he said as he came over and flopped down next to her. He held out her glass of wine like he always did when she came home late from work. He pulled the scarf from her head then reached behind her and started to massage the tension from her shoulders, like he always did. She pulled away and turned so she could look into his eyes. They were muddy brown and full of life as he smiled at her.
“The door… the house is-” She stopped as she looked around and saw that everything was in its place, just as it had been the day before…
“Yes, the door. Jazzy and I were playin’ around earlier and the hinge cracked. I was replacin’ it but didn’t quite have the tools. Don’t worry about that now, I’ll fix it later,” he said as he leaned into her with a mischievous grin and the intent to kiss her. She leaned back.
“Thomas. This can’t be real. This is a dream,” she stammered.
“Well if this is a dream and you’re here and I’m here then let’s not wake up,” he teased. He took her glass and set it down. He leaned back into the couch, his black shirt gaping open to reveal the muscular chest beneath. He was very fit for a lawyer. Her fingers itched to touch him and make sure that he was real.
“You’re right. If this is a dream then I guess we better start doin’ some dream type stuff,” she replied as she pulled herself up to straddle him.
She let her mouth cover his in a soul searing kiss and she nearly cried out at the pleasure that coursed through her. His lips were warm and satisfying. He seemed reluctant at first and she thought that weird. She poured all the fire and passion that she had suppressed over the years into the kiss.
Thomas gave in then an
d returned her kiss with an intensity that rocked her to her core. She tugged at his lips and nipped at his tongue as if she could taste him, drink him in, and have him be a part of her forever. She moaned in pleasure. He was here, flesh and bone, and she was going to take advantage of every moment of this.
She ran her fingers over his rippling abs and paused for a moment. Had her husband been this ripped? He had always had nice definition but this… She shrugged as she slipped off his legs and to her knees before him. She felt the bulge beneath his slacks and nearly drooled as she reached for his zipper. He grabbed her hand and she looked up at him knowing that desire was blazing in her eyes.
“What are you doing?” he asked. She hesitated for a moment. The eyes… something about his eyes were different.
“Just relax honey. I want to taste you, feel you in my mouth,” she said as he took his hands away from her and sat back to watch her. She loved it when he did that. She loved it even more when she saw him loose his fiercely protected control as she took him deeper and deeper into her mouth.
She unzipped his pants and he growled as he popped loose. “Al…” he growled a warning.
She paused again. His voice had been different just now. She looked at him but only saw her loving husband smiling down at her. She looked down at his erection standing straight up in the air. Before he could say another word she took him into her mouth plunging him all the way inside until she felt him in her throat. He moaned in pleasure and she felt triumphant.
She felt wet in anticipation of his reciprocation. She knew that he would reciprocate in kind, but for this moment she was in control. She slid back to his tip and played briefly with the sensitive spot right beneath the head of his penis. The sounds that he made encouraged her to pull him back into the deepest part of her throat and her nipples hardened as he pushed as deep as he could go.
She repeated the action a few more times and felt his control slipping with each stroke. He was holding back for some reason but she couldn’t tell why, so she endeavored to torture him even further. She pushed up so that she could angel him deeper into her throat and with a horse cry he came in her mouth. She felt satisfaction leave her weak with need when suddenly she was lifted into the air by an unseen enemy and tossed across the room like a sack of potatoes.
Chapter Eight
Alicia came to as she heard gun blast filling the room. A creature landed inches from her face and she scrambled to her feet. She looked over to the bed where Jerry sat, a gun in each hand and his pants open. She could still taste him in her mouth.
“What the hell did you do?” she accused as her eyes narrowed to slits.
“What the hell did I do?” he yelled back as he set the guns aside and stood so he could zip up. “What the hell did I do? You’re the one! If that thing hadn’t tossed you across the room then I don’t know what you would have done, not that you could have taken much more from me! I came in here trying to wake you and you jump on me and nearly get us killed.”
“Oh yeah. I’m sure that you’re just mister innocent. You just let me suck you off without a word of protest, poor you,” she said. She went to where her clothes lay at the foot of the bed and quickly got dressed. “How the hell did my clothes get off?! I’m sure you’re innocent of that too!”
“You were burning up… well the fever was so high I… I tried to wake you up when I came back but you nearly broke my wrist pushing my hand away! You had no right to do what you did. Who the hell do you think you are?! All you been trying to do since I met you is get in my pants and I told you once that I didn’t like that,” he yelled as he stalked to the satchel on the table and began to load the shotgun with her silver buck shot.
Alicia pulled up her zipper and watched him. His face was red and he looked like he was truly upset. His hands were shaking. There were dark circles around his eyes and his lips looked parched. He was wearing different clothes, but the clothes he wore bore the marks of some type of struggle. It had been morning when she’d gone to sleep. How long had he been here watching over her? Defending her.
She walked to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He stilled. “Okay. I’m sorry. I never had anyone in the room with me when I was out of it like that before, I don’t know what I do in my sleep. I’ll forget about it if you will. No hard feelin’s?”
He took a deep breath and looked over at her. His eyes were softer. “Maybe… if we weren’t in the middle of all this… I wouldn’t mind bein’ around when you wake up like that.”
She rolled her eyes and pushed him playfully. “I swear. All you men think about is getting’ your rocks off. You don’t care how-”
Her words were cut off as he turned and pulled her up against him, cupping her ass as he leaned down and claimed her mouth hard and hot. She returned his kiss without a thought. When he pulled away and looked down at her it was her turn to feel shaky.
“When I take you, I want you to know that it’s me, not Thomas,” he stated plainly.
“How did you know I was dreaming about-”
“You said his name while you were sleeping. When I make love to you I want you to know that it’s me. Alright? If you can make me that promise then I promise you that I will make love to you until the sun sets. Got it?”
All she could do was nod as he released her. She was at a loss for a moment, her mouth opening and closing like a fish.
“I already got us some gas in the tank. It’s probably best that we get moving. Bateman said-”
“Bateman,” she roared coming out of her stupor. “You answered my cell phone?”
“No. I called him when you were burning from the sun and wouldn’t tell me what to do. He said-”
“They are sending a team. What the fuck did you do that for?” she screamed as she turned and hurried to pack up their things. She packed all that she could before swinging the pack over her shoulder.
“You were dying! I didn’t know what else-”
“You stupid-” she stopped short of calling him a few very unsavory names. “They don’t ever send a team in to rescue people, cherie. They send a team in to contain a mess, make sure that there are no witnesses. You understand this, no?” She grabbed his arm and drug him out of the front door.
“You said that they don’t kill people.”
“I did not say that they don’t ever kill people. I just said that there are other ways. They are going to take care of you. Make sure that you never even remotely recall anything. Like you’re entire life! We have to get far away from here.” Just as she said that a sleek black jaguar sped into the yard and stopped so suddenly, that gravel flew every which way.
Al pulled him protectively behind her as she tensed for battle. She felt the change come on instantly. Two men got out of the car. They were each dressed in black. They were each built like Norse gods. They each had a long blond braid that hung down their backs past their butts.
“I thought you said that you couldn’t have a partner,” Jerry whispered from behind her.
“True in every case except with the Digorfeski twins. They are different. They are the oldest. They are like our police,” she whispered.
“Alicia mine darlinck. It has been too long,” one of the twins said as he stepped away from the sporty black car.
“Alec,” she said in greeting. “Petrov.”
“How is it you can always tell us apart?” Petrov asked with a delighted smile. The tension in the air was so thick she could nearly cut it with a knife and serve it on a platter with potatoes.
“Alec parts his hair on the right side,” she replied.
Petrov laughed. “So do I.”
“Doesn’t look as good on you.” His face fell and Alec laughed this time.
“Al. I don’t think provoking him is going to help,” Jerry said nervously.
*
“Nothing is going to help you my sweet,” Alec replied talking to Jerry.
The way he said the words… the way he looked at Jerry… it seemed like he wasn’t really a man any
more, if he had ever really been a man. There was something devoid from his eyes, something that sent a shiver through Jerry’s body.
They moved forward and Al went into a crouch as if preparing to strike. They stopped mere feet away. Jerry felt Alicia’s nails grow and though he couldn’t see her face, he knew that she had gone into hunter mode. The two men’s beautiful faces slipped into ugly feline masks in return. This was truly a nightmare that he couldn’t wake up from.
“You would risk your life for a mortal, give up the good that you could do for other innocents for this one?” Alec asked.
“I shouldn’t have to make that kind of choice. I should protect the innocent in front of me with everything in me regardless of the consequences,” she said easily as if they were at tea, not about to rip each other’s throats out. It was like being near a dog fight that you could do nothing to stop.
“Please. You don’t have to do this. I’ll take the shot and forget it all if you’ll leave us alone,” Jerry offered.
“My sweet. You have seen too much for us to let you go now. She should have spared you and left you alone from the beginning.”
“I tried that,” Al protested.
“Not hard enough. Listen darlinck. You know that it is too late. I will miss your e-mails,” Petrov said as his nails lengthened.
The twins nails got longer, and their eyes turned as black and soulless as coal. They seemed to take a fighters stance at the same angle at the same time. They were fluid, synchronized, and terrifying. Their intention was clear and he had the feeling that Al was far outmatched with these two. They were scarier than the creatures they were supposed to hunt and kill.
A howl split the air and the two brothers looked off towards the sound at the same time, their faces suddenly returning to normal. They then looked back to Jerry. “He is one of them,” they said in unisons.
“One of who,” Al asked.
“He is a balance,” they said again in unisons. Their nails receded and their pupils went back to normal.
