Show No Mercy

by Bethany Walkers

Jazz was wearing a glittery cropped pink top and a short pink skirt. She had over-done her make-up but she had also curled her hair.

“Bye, sir,” Jazz called, as she walked onto the stage. Adam went to join the audience.

First an announcer began a speech.

“HELLO EVERYONE!” he shouted into the microphone.

  “Hello,” everyone yelled back.

“Well, today’s a special day, with a special star girl performing – Jazz!”

  He continued his speech.

  Chapter Thirty Three

  Seeing the enemy after years

“Well, today, we also have a special guest. His name is Joshua Toft, a special friend of Jazz’s. He’s won many awards in speech association, and he’s also been to many performances, promoting them or sponsoring them. Give him a big round of applause!”

Joshua was Adam’s worst enemy. If you want to know why, you will just have to find out as you read on.

Joshua came inside the massive hall. He was wearing a black cap for this special event, which covered his baldness at the scalp. He had a big, ugly, cheesy grin plastered on his face. He took a seat with some of the other VIP guests, and Jazz came on stage, looking incredibly beautiful.

Everyone broke into applause. Jazz began to sing and dance to a song called Impossible by James Arthur. It was a heartbreaking song about losing love.

  I remember years ago

Someone told me I should take

Caution when it comes to love

  I did

And you were strong and I was not

  My illusion, my mistake

  I was careless, I forgot

  I did

And now when all is done

  There is nothing to say

You have gone and so effortlessly

  You have won

You can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now

Shout it from the roof tops

Write it on the sky line

All we had is gone now

  Tell them I was happy

  And my heart is broken

  All my scars are open

Tell them what I hoped would be

  Impossible, impossible

  Impossible, impossible

Falling out of love is hard

  Falling for betrayal is worse

  Broken trust and broken hearts

  I know, I know...

Thinking all you need is there

Building faith on love and words

  Empty promises will wear

  I know, I know...

And now when all is done

  There is nothing to say

And if you're done with embarrassing me

On your own you can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now

Shout it from the roof tops

Write it on the sky line

All we had is gone now

  Tell them I was happy

  And my heart is broken

  All my scars are open

Tell them what I hoped would be

  Impossible, impossible

  Impossible, impossible

  I remember years ago

Someone told me I should take

Caution when it comes to love

  I did

Tell them all I know now

Shout it from the roof tops

Write it on the sky line

All we had is gone now

  Tell them I was happy

  And my heart is broken

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, hoped would be

  Impossible, impossible

  Impossible, impossible

  Impossible, impossible

  Impossible, impossible

She continued to sing, swaying her hips to the music, but occasionally gulping for air because she was so nervous.

Joshua Toft started clapping and singing along with her. A great many people started singing along. Adam raised his eyebrows, not finding the song very appealing to sing along to.

When Jazz finished, Joshua was called to the stage to give a speech.

“It really is a pleasure to be here,” he said, “seeing Jazz perform so well. I am most grateful for this opportunity. She looks very stunning tonight, as many men in the audience would agree with me.” He paused. Jazz blushed deeply, and many boys in the crowd began wolf-whistling at her. “It’s not an easy thing to do, going up on a stage in front of so many people, but Jazz has just nailed it. Well done Jazz. I wouldn’t have missed this for the world.”

Joshua Toft continued his speech for about fifteen minutes. Adam was just there, a look of disgust drawn on his face. He took a photo of Joshua, to remember him and keep it for future reference.

  Chapter Thirty Four

  Murdering the suspicious people

Joshua Toft was at his house. He hadn’t seen Adam in the crowd at the time of the performance, but he had a bad feeling about what was going to happen. Something didn’t feel right to him when he went to see Jazz’s dance routine. When he went up on to the stage, he felt that someone was watching him. but he couldn’t quite figure out who it was.

There was someone that he truly despised of in his past. That person hated Josh because Josh stole from his business and conned him out of money. But Josh still couldn’t figure out who that was ...

Joshua ordered his friends to kill every single one of his enemies. His enemies included a journalist who kept on pestering and annoying him through one of his meetings, a strange looking man on the street who was staring at him, and more. Josh showed no mercy. Even if he had the slightest doubt upon someone, he would murder them one way or another.

His friends always had to listen to his commands, so they went round killing every single one of them, either with a knife, gun or dagger.

After all this happened, Joshua Toft still wasn’t satisfied. He lay with his head in his hands, sitting on his sofa.

“Why are you still so unsure?” asked one of his friends. “We’ve killed every one of them that we know about.”

“No. There’s still one more left, but I can’t think of who he is. But believe me, he’s trouble.” Joshua Toft still couldn’t figure out who it was.

“But Joshua, who is this man you’re still so worried about?” his friend pestered.

“I don’t know, but trust me, I’m going to find out.”

  “How, exactly?”

“SHUT UP, YOU FUCKING LITTLE BASTARD, OR I’LL KILL YOU AS WELL!” Joshua Toft shouted.

“Didn’t mean to offend you sir. But still, how are you going to do this?” His friend just couldn’t stop asking these questions.

“I don’t know yet, but sure as always; I’m going to find out how.”

  Chapter Thirty Five

  Explaining the story

Jazz was at Gina’s house. She was about to leave. She gave Gina and Amber a hug before she did so.

Then she decided to go to Joshua Toft’s house, to tell him about Adam Attenborough. She’d seen his display of photos, and she was sure as sure could be that one of the photos was a picture of Joshua Toft. Underneath, it had written: ‘MUST KILL’.

When she arrived at Joshua Toft’s house, she had to speak into a speaker at the gate, because there was so much security.

“I am Jazz, Joshua Toft’s friend,” she said into it.

The gates opened at once. She was welcomed into the living room, where Joshua Toft was sitting.

“Hello, Jazz. What brings you here?” Joshua Toft asked politely. He wasn’t at all a polite person, though. He was a murderer.

“I wanted to talk to you about something very important.” Jazz didn’t know how to compose herself.

“Why exactly is it important, may I ask?”

“It’s about a man named Adam Attenborough. He suffers from a fifteen minute short term memory loss.”

Josh opened his eyes, wide. The name Adam Attenborough rung a bell in his mind. “What’s your profession, seeing as you’re stu
dying about him?”

“I’m a medical student,” Jazz said, showing her badge proudly. “Look, I need to run through this quickly. Basically, Adam’s planning on killing you. I saw all sorts of evidence in this matter, when I went to his apartment.”

“I see,” Joshua Toft said, stroking his moustache.

“He had a noticeboard. I was horrified when I saw it. Well, that’s all I have to say. Now I really have to go.”

  “Sure thing.”

  Jazz left.

  Joshua Toft’s friends gathered around.

“Why are you looking so pleased, Joshua?” they asked him simultaneously, their bloodshot eyes staring at their master’s face.

“Don’t you see? I’ve found my last enemy. Adam Attenborough, the scruff of memory loss. Thank fucking hell, I finally know who’s left to kill!”

  Chapter Thirty Six

  Seeing him in tattoo form

Adam Attenborough was at the hospital. He was quite ill. Joshua Toft went to the hospital. Adam was at a dark, gloomy ward with three policemen. Adam was lying in deep unconsciousness.

“Do you recognize this man?” asked one of the policemen.

“Yes,” Joshua Toft replied, putting on a fake upset face as he gazed at Adam’s tattoos. “He’s my best friend. God bless him, he’s wrote my phone number on his body!”

He was lying through and through, but was enjoying it.

“Can you tell us about him?”

“He’s Adam Attenborough. Oh, we’re properly good mates. He suffers from a short term memory loss lasting fifteen minutes before he loses his memory again. I really am quite devastated seeing him in this state. But he’s a strong man. Very muscley, very firm,” Joshua confided.

“Right,” the policemen nodded. “If you want to examine him with us keeping guard on you?”

“No, that won’t be necessary,” said Joshua Toft immediately. If the policemen witnessed what he was about to do now he would never see the outside of a prison cell.

The last thing he wanted was killing Adam in front of the policemen and then staying behind bars for the rest of his life. He just had to find the right moment, and that wouldn’t be today.

“Very well,” one other policeman nodded. “You can go now.”

“With pleasure,” nodded Joshua Toft, and left the hospital, gathering up his thoughts.

  Chapter Thirty Seven

The poison that cleared all evidence

Adam Attenborough was being escorted with some nurses into a new ward. Joshua and his fellow criminal friends went to the hospital. They scared the nurses away from them and Adam.

They injected a very weak poison into Adam, (he was still unconscious) to get rid of all of his tattoos. As this poison wasn’t strong, it didn’t kill Adam, but all the tattoo prints on his body would slowly disappear after a week’s worth of sleeps.

“All in a day’s work,” Joshua grinned, and gave his partners a hi-five.

“Now, there’s no evidence that we committed the murder,” agreed one of them.

But the murder of whom, you are about to find out.

  Chapter Thirty Eight

  Breaking in without permission

Joshua went out to the pub with his friends, for a very long time, getting blind drunk. Adam used this opportunity to go to Joshua’s house.

One very big window was unlocked and wide open. Adam clambered inside.

Joshua’s phone began to ring. After wandering around the house, Adam answered it.

  Chapter Thirty Nine

The phone call that made him furious

Jazz was at the other end. She thought Joshua Toft had answered the phone.

“Hi Joshua. I just wanted to ask you a small favour. One of my photos got left with Adam.” Jazz rushed straight to the purpose of her phone call.

  “Which Adam?” asked Adam.

“Adam Attenborough,” Sophie reminded him, thinking he was stupid. “I was just wondering if you could make sure I receive it? Because he’ll probably kill me any day now.” Adam could hear Jazz gulp at the other end of the receiver.

“What were you wearing in the photo?” Adam asked.

“Erm, blue top and blue jeans,” Jazz said.

“OK, you’ll receive it by tomorrow.” Adam confirmed.

“Thanks, sir. I really am very grateful. I really hate that Adam Attenborough.”

Adam gasped at what she’d just said. He paused for a moment, thinking what Joshua would have said.

“I hate him too,” Adam replied.

Jazz dialled off without saying goodbye.

Adam put his head in his hands. He felt truly betrayed that Jazz had used him all this time. She acted like she was his friend, but secretly she thought Adam was her worst enemy. What did I do wrong to her to deserve this? Adam thought.

  Chapter Forty

  Reading the diaries

Jazz was at Amber’s house with both Gina and Amber. They were having a girls night in, but they certainly didn’t feel like doing anything tonight. The thing they really wanted to do, was look over the evidence about Adam Attenborough that Jazz had collected from his apartment. Even Gina was starting to get interested in the case.

Jazz fumbled in her bag, and took out Adam’s diaries.

“We’ll read Adam’s diaries. Maybe they could help us on our project,” Jazz suggested.

First they read the 2005 diary, the one that the policeman had read. They looked shocked at the photo of Adam on the front, because he was so handsome back then. They laughed and cried at some parts. They really enjoyed reading his point of view on his life.

  Then they finished it.

“Let’s read more!” Gina said eagerly. “Have you got the 2006 diary?”

“Yup,” Amber smiled, as Jazz took the 2006 diary from her bag.

  They began to read.

  Part Three – Flashback

  When I first met you

I felt like I had known you forever,

  telling you my secrets

and what I didn’t want ever.

  you listened to me

I bet you thought I’d never end,

  who would have thought

we would become more than just friends.

  Over a period of time,

I got to know the real you.

A boy so caring and gentle,

  with a heart so true.

  You’ve survived your life

with hurt and loneliness by your side.

I told you I’d never leave

because of the feelings I have inside.

  I know you

like no one I have ever known,

  and sometimes I wonder

what I’d do if you were gone?

  So I have decided

  time answers all.

If it is meant to be

  time will remove the wall.

I love the way we are together,

you can always make me smile.

Will it ever really be forever?

I guess I will have to wait awhile.

Time will reveal, what lies ahead

  but always remember

  what I have said.

Meeting you has changed my life

and I really love you so,

the feelings I feel for you

  I am never letting go.

  Remember me always

  and I will too.

  I always think of

  me and you.

  Chapter Forty One

  Sweet nothings on a train

Sophie Steele was on the train, to go to another city. She was writing a love letter to Adam:

If only I could have come up with the right words to describe the depth of this beautiful feeling that I have for you, I would have uttered them to you the first time I laid eyes on you. But I lacked that knowledge, so the best thing that I can do is to show you how I really mean it now. I love you so dearly. Did you know that? You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You are like the best poetry eve
r composed, the best song ever played, the best picture ever painted. I never thought or expected that someone like me could get so lucky as to find you. How could I have known the comfort and security that comes whenever I say "I love you," and you say the same words, too?

I know that you love me, or you wouldn't be prepared to marry me. Marrying me will be just among the many wonderful things you have done to show me that you are sincere and how much I mean to you. I love you more than life itself--more than my world. You are my world. Life wouldn't be life if I didn't share it with you. We may be far away from each other right now, but my heart and my love can reach across any distance, and I feel your love reaching me here, too. It just feels so wonderful knowing and believing that. Aren't we lucky? I love you--more and more each day.
