Heath (Roughneck Book 2) Page 5

by Camaron, Chelsea

Dropping to one knee in front of her, I pull out the ring and pour out my heart.

“Today, I want to make your life not about survival anymore. I want today to be the first day of the rest of your life as my wife.

“LoraLeigh, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my days protecting you, cherishing you, and growing with you. I want to spend the rest of my nights making love to you. As long as I live, you will be my first, my last, and my only.

“Karma saw fit to bring us together. Cupid saw fit to shoot his arrow straight at my heart. Sweets, can you see it fit to be my wife? Share my life with me. Marry me?”

Tears fill her eyes as she nods her head.

“You gave me the fight I needed inside to overcome all of my past. I love you, Heath. I want nothing more than to be your wife.”

There’s nothing I would rather do than hold this woman close today, tomorrow, and the rest of my days. Love isn’t a fight. Love isn’t supposed to be painful. Love is pure. Love is raw. Love is passion. Love is all-consuming.

~ There’s nothing more I would rather do in my life than love this woman, love my wife.

And they lived happily ever after…

This story was inspired by a blogger I ‘met’ online over a year ago. She told me about this place in Louisiana, Claire House. It is a rehabilitation home that focuses on women with drug addictions and their children.

For the women who can come out on the other side of addiction, their children don’t have to face the horrors of the consequences to their life choices. Drug and alcohol addiction is real, and many moms face it daily, recovering or not. Their children didn’t ask to be born or to make sacrifices for their family member’s addiction.

In this story, LoraLeigh lost her mom, but she didn’t lose herself like many of these children do if it weren’t for facilities like Claire House that help women rebuild their lives and get clean.

There are many facilities and charities nationwide for women who suffer from addiction as well as those who are victims of domestic abuse. Anything you can give from money to clothing to even volunteering your time is appreciated. It is far too easy to get in over your head with a drug or a man and not even realize it until it’s too late.

Kindness, compassion, and forgiveness go a long way in healing the broken in many of these people. Don’t be so quick to judge. Rather, be quick to understand.

Below are a few sites for addiction counseling information. Also, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, as well as a mental health resource with some practical advice for victims.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Chelsea Camaron was born and raised in coastal North Carolina. She currently resides in southern Louisiana with her husband and two children, but her heart is forever Carolina day dreaming. Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab ahold of her dream. Finally, she realized that, if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, it was time to follow her own advice. When she’s not spending her days writing, you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book, or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in.
