And in every vision I see, Mira smiles back at all of them with an unmistakable sparkle in her vivid green eyes. She brings light into every room and every space she inhabits, and I can feel her energy radiating outward with incredible power and with overwhelming goodness.

And for the first time, I see an aura, rather than just feeling it, and it brings tears to my eyes. Mira’s aura is so vividly brilliant, shining out from her in every direction with such radiance it lights up my heart. She’s bright and beautiful and glowing from within.

The same way Alexander always glowed—incandescent and breathtaking, and exuding that incredible feeling of love … and peace.

And I know in my heart that I can let go, because Alexander was right.

Our baby Miracle is going to change the world.

  Epilogue

  Seven years later

  Sydney, Australia

The little girl removes her shoes and socks and squishes her feet in the sand in the large sandbox she’s playing in, reveling in the feel of the smooth, warm sand between her toes. She looks up, hand held over her vivid sea-blue eyes as a shield from the sun, squinting at the lone, billowy white cloud in the otherwise clear sky. She glances over at her parents, sitting on a bench nearby talking with some other parents, and then she smooths a lock of hair from her face, deposits it behind her ear, and goes back to trying to build her sandcastle with a bridge she can place her favorite figurines under.

A little boy with tousled dark hair walks over, curious. “What are you building?” he asks.

The little girl looks up, and when her cheerful blue eyes meet the boy’s kind green eyes, they both stop and stare for a moment—neither sure why—and then they exchange soft smiles.

“Who are you?” the little girl asks.

  “Just moved here,” he answers.

  “I’m Dany,” she says.

  “Xander,” he answers.

She nods and gestures to the broken area of her castle. “I’m trying to build an arch, but it keeps crumbling on the people.” She holds up the two plastic figures in her hand, caked with sand. They look like a well-worn bride and groom rescued from the top of someone’s wedding cake.

Xander bends down to take a closer look, inspecting the sandcastle. He makes a notch on either side of where the arch will connect. Then he dips his hands into her plastic pail of water and uses his wet fingers to make the notches a little deeper. He turns to look at Dany, who’s watching him curiously.

She smiles at him and he smiles back and they hold each other’s gaze for longer than one might expect, as they sit in the warm sand under the bright blue sky.

“What are you doing?” she asks when he pours half of her water out and starts forming a big pile of wet sand.

  “Fixing it,” he says.

She shakes her head. “I already tried that. I don’t think it will work.”

He looks over at her and meets her eyes and something about his gaze feels familiar. She trusts him. “We can do this together,” he says. “Watch me.” He puts his hand in the space where the arch will be and starts piling heaps of wet sand onto it with the other hand and connecting the wet sand to the notches. “After it dries a little, it should stay.”

She smiles and shrugs and places her hand next to his and starts piling more wet sand onto both of their hands, forming the foundation of the arch.

“What if it crashes again when we pull our hands out?” Dany asks.

“Don’t worry,” he says, his green eyes crinkling, making her smile. “It’ll work this time. I have a plan.”
