He nodded. “It’s a nice place.”

“Thanks. We have a lot of good local business in and out. And I mean coffee in New York—it’s not hard to survive.” Bianca chuckled as she tossed her keys on the counter. “Come on back.”

He followed her to the back, and she began shifting things on the counter to distract herself from touching him. She looked everywhere but at him as he pulled out a stool nearby to sit down.

“What do you want to eat?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know what do you have?”

She tapped her lip and grabbed an apron. “I make a mean omelet.”

  “That, please.”

She began looting for tools and pulling ingredients out of the refrigerator. “Do you eat meat?” she asked.

He laughed. “Only in the form of meat.”

She opened the fridge to grab extra butter and placed it out on the counter to begin. An omelet was the first meal she learned to cook, and it became a staple at the cafe. Everyone loved her omelets. She decided to do bacon and brie cheese while he watched her closely. “You’re mesmerizing when you’re cooking.”

“Thank you. Even more mesmerizing than when I am wielding a crop?”

  He laughed, “even more so.”

She cooked the food and continued to cast glances up at him from the corner of her eye. She wanted him even though she should concentrate on the food. She put the pan on the top burner and let the cheese melt before skirting the counter to kiss his neck. He sighed into her.

“So, out of curiosity, do you need BDSM to get off, or do you like sex in general?”

His pulse beat heavily against her mouth before he answered. “I like it all. I love the lifestyle and the people, but I also love sex and intimacy and this time with you.”

That made her stomach flutter as he curled a hand around her waist and drew her into him. His cologne smelled rich like the ocean; she could almost taste the salt. “Kiss me.”

“So bossy,” he joked before leaning in and brushing her lips with his own. He kissed as well as she remembered. Leaning in, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed hard into him. He groaned and she loved the way the rumble of it vibrated through her chest. She wanted him like she’d never wanted a man, human or otherwise, and she’d had her pick of the pantheon in the Void.

His tongue parted her lips, and she tasted him for the first time in days. It slipped through her until she began to reminisce about the first night and all the ways she’d wanted him.

  “Please,” she whispered.

He trailed his hands down her dress and under the skirt to find her bare flesh

He broke away and chuckled. “No panties?”

“Why not? We’ve already slept together, so I figured you were a sure thing.”

  “Never on the first date.”

She laughed before he parted her with his fingers, and that laugh turned to a sigh against his beautiful mouth. He didn’t know her body as well as she knew his yet, but he found the rhythm easily enough with his fingers. He curled them into her wet flesh in short quick strokes, and she hovered on the edge of coming when the smoke alarm began to blare though the kitchen. She jumped, and he withdrew his hand as she ran over to the alarm control panel. The system activated and the rep asked for confirmation of a problem. Bianca asked them to reset it before the lights flickered and then the kitchen returned to silence.

He laughed as she checked her omelet. “Well, it’s ruined.”

  “What else do you have?”

She traipsed back to the refrigerator and pulled out some cheese and fruit before laying them out on a small platter for them to munch on. As if they would spend much time eating anyway.

“This is fine,” he assured her. “Really.”

She leaned on her elbows on top of the counter and nibbled on the end of a piece of cheese. She studied him as he did the same. There was a sensual way he ate fruit, and all she could imagine was his face between her legs the first night they met. She decided maybe she hadn’t had enough sex the last year.

  “What about you?” he asked.

She nearly choked trying to swallow a piece of cheese and sputtered, “me?”

He rubbed her back gently. “Yeah, I don’t know anything about you.”

As she blushed under his close scrutiny, she shifted to straighten the fruit plate so she didn’t have to meet his eyes. “What do you want to know?

“Did you always want to open a coffee shop?”

Easy enough to start she supposed. “No. I did it when my friend decided it might be a cool idea.”

  “Why The White Horse Cafe?”

His question caught her off guard and she needed to think quickly.

“Um, well, my friend Katherine has a fascination with the four horsemen, and one of the horsemen is Conquest. She thought it would be a fun play on things.” She didn’t meet his eyes as a little guilt from the lie seeped into her chest.

  “It’s clever.”

“What else?” she pressed, hoping to change the subject so she didn’t have to lie so baldly.

He gripped her hand, stilling it while she lined up another row of melon. “Where did you go to school?”

“I didn’t.” She gestured at the smoking pan with her free hand. “As evident by my culinary expertise.”

  “I bet it’s delicious.”

She laughed. “Do you want to eat it?”

He chuckled, leaning back on the stool. “Hell no.”

The jingle of the bell above the door made Bianca pause. “I didn’t lock the door.”

Victor stood and put his arm out to stop her from going into the main shop. “Let me check.”

He poked his head above the hole in the kitchen door. “It’s Katherine, a woman, Hades, Cloris, and a large looking guy out there.”

Bianca raised an eyebrow at him and laughed. “You know just about everyone then.” She shook head and pushed the door open. “What are you guys doing here?”

Victor straightened his shirt and followed her. If it was already time to meet the rest of the friends, he wanted to make a good impression. He surveyed the group. A beautiful collection of people. He recognized Cloris and Hades from the interview they conducted with him to gain entry into the club and Katherine from Bianca’s house, but the other two he didn’t know, and he found himself a little scared of them.

At first he considered going to the club and being Cloris’ lawyer might prove uncomfortable, but she had a strange way of making every situation seem perfectly normal. He shook himself back to the situation.

“I’m Victor,” he announced to the group with a short wave.

Katherine nodded at him, as did Cloris and Hades.

He reached out to shake the other woman’s hand. “Scarlet,” she said.

  And then the man. “Tyr.”

An unusual name, but he appeared to own it. Quite a few of this bunch bore unusual names. Cloris brought him from his musings. “We got the alarm call and thought someone had broken in.”

  “No, I burned some food.”

Katherine stared at her. “You never burn food.”

Bianca blushed, and Victor glanced at his feet. If he could distract her so much, he should be proud of it. He was surprised he controlled himself enough already. From the moment he spotted her in the office earlier, he wanted to do all the twisted things he’d dreamed about the last few nights.

She was a mystery wrapped in a beautiful package, and he wanted to part each layer with a kiss and sigh until she couldn’t be without him. Let alone when the woman held a whip in her hand. She could keep him as long as she wanted, and he would be happy to have spent that time in her arms.

“So what are your intentions with Bianca?” Tyr asked, addressing him.

“Well...” He knew his ears were probably pink from being asked so directly.

“Tyr,” Bianca said, fiercely. “I am not a child, and you are not my father.” Tyr leveled a look at her and then
turned his attention back to him.

Victor gave the only answer that came to him, “I’m hers as long as she wants me.”

They all stared at him now. “That is an acceptable answer,” Tyr said before nodding.

“So how did you two meet?” Scarlet asked, leaning on the counter.

He wasn’t sure if she really knew and wanted to mess with him, or if she was actually curious. But Bianca saved him. “We met at Cloris’s club. That’s all you need to know.”

Scarlet gave her a smirk and retreated into her own space.

“Well, this has been fun, but you all can leave now,” Bianca said, gesturing toward the door.

The group grumbled but began to shuffle out, and Bianca sighed against the counter as Katherine locked the door from the outside

“I’m so sorry about that. I didn’t expect an ambush.”

  “They are protective of you.”

“I don’t know. I don’t date much. I think they were more curious than anything else.”

He nodded and reached out for her hand. She jerked against his touch and closed her eyes for a moment.

  “You okay?”

“Yeah. Good.” She smiled wide and sidled closer to him. “Where were we?”

  Chapter Seven

VICTOR COULDN’T BELIEVE HIS luck as Bianca shyly asked him if he wanted to stay the night.

  “Of course,” he said.

He swallowed down his anxiety and nerves and focused being admitted to her domain. Bianca formed a mystery for him, one he eagerly wanted to delve into. Entering her room, seeing her home, would give him more insight into who she was.

She laughed and he reconsidered his answer. Was he supposed to play it cool and play down his eagerness? He didn’t even contemplate it being a problem with her. She had a magnetism that drew him in and wouldn’t let go, as if he held the second magnet and nothing would break the field.

They drove back to her brownstone, and darkness enveloped them as they entered. She led him up the stairs to her room, and he received his first glimpse at her domain when she flipped on the lights. He might call it feminine but simple. It suited her. He wanted to touch her possessions, breathe her in, and enjoy getting to know more about her. His last Domme/sub relationship ended quickly, and he didn’t know if he could survive that again. The woman had been lovely, but cold and distant. Even in their intimate interactions she didn’t even appear to want to be near him. It was one of the reasons he moved to New York—an attempt at distancing himself from such a negative aspect and element. Every time he’d attended a scene event, he’d see or think of her, and it would end up not being enjoyable. He didn’t have the same problem with Bianca. Every breathe she took exuded fire and passion like she lit a candle inside her chest and feasted off the flame.

“What do you think?” she said, plopping onto her bed and removing her shoes.

He began peruse her bookcase: fantasy, cook books, and memoirs from chefs. “You really do like to cook.”

  “I really do.”

He caressed a worn spine. “I like that.”

  “How about you?”

“Do I like to cook? No, I’m awful at it. I could burn boiling water.”

She chuckled. “Guess I’ll be doing the cooking.”

“Do you mind if I take off my shoes?”

  “Of course not.”

He slipped each one off and then plopped down beside her on the bed. The springs bounced but made no sound.

She reached out and undid the top button of his shirt. “I want you,” she whispered, and he leaned in to kiss her. Those words were all he ever needed to hear from her.

He kissed her deep and hard, trying to impart every ounce of emotion coursing through him into that kiss. He couldn’t say it out loud, but he could try to show her in other ways.

When she broke away, she began to unbutton more of his shirt before jerking it from his pants. He followed her lead and grabbed the hem of her dress and lifted it over her head. She wore nothing beneath it, and he groaned as he cupped her breast in his hand. They fit perfectly in his palm soft and flushed pink.

She pulled his belt open and stripped it from the loops on his pants before attacking his zipper. He stood and pulled his pants down to reveal his black boxer briefs. She motioned with her hand and he removed those too. She apparently wanted him completely naked for her.

He swallowed, sitting back down on the bed with a bounce. She lay back and pulled him over on top of her. His hot skin met hers, and the electricity of her and his arousal battled for ground in his body. He wanted to continue the slow slide up her body all night, and if he had his way he would. He held his weight off her by the elbows and kissed her gently. At least in an effort to gain some control of himself. His cock had long ago begun to ache painfully as he pressed it against her belly.

She squirmed up into him. “Fuck me. Now.”

Even in vanilla sex, she couldn’t help but order him around. She reached out and opened the drawer in her bedside table to pull out a condom. He took it, sat up, and slipped it on quickly before aligning with her body again and placing himself at her entrance. All her creamy white skin flushed pink, and he glided easily inside her with a long exhale. She gasped and he stilled, enjoying the hot sheath of her stretched around him. His hands began to shake as he attempted to wrest control of his body.

“I could stay here forever,” he whispered.

She shifted, urging him to move, and he followed her silent commands. He slid out until he almost separated from her and entered her again before taking up a demanding rhythm.

She wrapped her hands around his torso and dug her nails into his back. That slight pain exploded through him, adding even more to his arousal. He’d been painfully hard since he touched her bare flesh at the cafe, and now he hovered dangerously close to the edge—but he would not come until she told him too. He pulled out and entered her fiercely until the headboard began to slap against the wall.

“Fuck…” she said before putting her hand between them to massage her own clit. He swallowed the groan threatening to escape at the image. He wished he could sit back and watch, but the lady seemed to have it well in hand.

He continued until the gentle squeeze of her body around his indicated her orgasm. She came hard and fast, spasming around him. He kept going, trying to keep his mind on mundane topics. “Tell me to come,” he whispered against her ear before nibbling on the lobe. Her breath caught along the column of his neck and gooseflesh followed in its wake.

She lay unmoving before leaning up, biting his earlobe in return, and whispering, “come for me.”

He groaned and came instantly. His entire body shook as he held himself inside her, emptying himself completely. He splayed out languid and shaking as if he no longer held control of his own skin, and he supposed he didn’t. She’d commanded him, and he bowed to her hand gladly.

He collapsed on top of her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck and cuddled into his shoulder. He liked the soft side of her too. The touchy and edgy side; the one who could make him wish he’d chosen a different hobby, and this soft gentle woman wrapping herself around him after lovemaking.

“I like you, Victor,” she whispered.

Her words struck him straight in the chest, an arrow right to his heart. “I like you too.”

He rolled off her and onto his back to get some air, and likely she would appreciate the weight off her chest. A few moments later he sat up and grabbed a tissue to dispose the condom and clean himself up. She lay across the bed, still on her back, panting softly. A warm ache entered his chest at the sight of her. He’d reduced her to a heap of exhaustion, and he enjoyed that knowledge.

He laughed before climbing up beside her and snuggling his head on her shoulder. She was sweet too. Such a mix of personality in a woman. He fell asleep lying there, and sometime in the middle of night he woke to growling. As he opened his eyes, a dog came into focus through the haze of sleep. He tried to remember if Bianca had told h
im her dog’s name, but couldn’t put it together. Reaching out, he pet it in an effort to appease it enough to leave, and it nibbled on his arm as he drifted back to sleep.

  ______

Bianca woke to the snuggly heat of a man wrapped around her and she liked it. She stretched against him, and his eyes popped open before he nuzzled her neck. He reached up and cupped her cheek before giving her a quick peck on the lips. She almost closed her eyes, but then the light beginning to stream through the window drew her attention away. She wasn’t quite sure what she was seeing. She grabbed his arm and he pulled away, giving her a strange look.

“What’s wrong?” he asked in a sleep-laced grumble.

She seized his wrist and turned it over in her hands. “What happened?” The flesh was angry, red, and raised—like an infected bite mark. “Does it hurt?”

“Oh.” He laughed. “Your dog was in here and tried to play with me as I was sleeping. It doesn’t hurt. I can’t even feel it.”

She stopped breathing and inspected his skin before jumping from the bed, slamming the lamp switch on, and heading into the hall, screaming for Katherine. She returned a moment later clutching her bed-head topped friend. Victor slipped the sheet across his lap as they came closer, but Katherine’s eyes were barely open.

“What is it?” he asked, alarm creeping into his tone.

Bianca gestured at his arm, turning to Katherine. “He says he was playing with my dog last night.”

Katherine’s eyes grew round. Now seemingly fully awake, she ran from the room.

“What is it?” he asked again, anxiety beginning to crinkle the corners of his eyes.

She swallowed, intent on staying calm for his sake. “Our dog died a few months ago.”

  Chapter Eight

VICTOR SAT ON HER bed, staring down at his arm, his forehead drawn up as he caressed the ravaged skin. Bianca crouched down in front of him. “Are you okay?”

He shook his head but answered anyway, “whose dog was that then?”

Her heart slammed in her chest. If a hellhound entered their home and bit her boyfriend she might go on a rampage. She attempted to keep her voice even. “Um… I don’t know.”
