Vampire's Retribution

He sighed, and I knew he was trying to keep his thoughts to himself. “The concept of monogamy doesn’t seem natural to many species. Few animals have only one sex partner during their lives. For sorcerers and vampires, who live so long, monogamy is almost absurd. However, there is another factor that can make monogamy work among humans and human-like species like us and the vampires.”

“What is that?” I asked because I knew he was pausing to see if I was curious about where his speech was heading.

“Love. To love someone means to be true to them or it isn’t true love. If you need to share your bed with someone else, then you are not in love with your partner.”

“Are you trying to imply something?” I asked, becoming upset with his words.

“No, I’m trying to make you understand that Ewan didn’t truly love anyone in his life. Except himself. Because to love is to make sacrifices for the one you love, and respect that person.”

“So you aren’t trying to imply that if I sleep with Ewan, it’s because I don’t really love you?”

“No, I’m not. I’m saying that if Ewan loved you, he wouldn’t have slept with Anastasia.”

  “Yes, you are right.”

“However, I hope that you will love me enough to resist him,” he added.

“Okay,” I mumbled a bit ashamed, but at the same time proud of myself. I did resist the guy, and he was extremely persuasive and hot. “But Galvin,” I spoke, having some sort of epiphany, “if I’m sleeping with you, then it means that I don’t really love him either. Or I wouldn’t want you in my bed after I have made him fall for me.”

“You may be using me as part of your revenge.”

“No, I’m pretty sure I’m not,” I reasoned. “I just think you are extremely hot and you really keep me happy sexually speaking,” I teased, smirking at him.

“So you like how I fuck you,” he stated, making me roll my eyes at him for the choice of words.

“You have such a dirty mouth!”

“I wonder who taught me to say things like that.”

“I have no idea,” I mumbled, fluttering my eyelashes at him. “But I do enjoy when we make love,” I whispered, and his eyes changed, becoming softer over mine. He brushed my cheek with his hand and caressed my hair. He didn’t need to speak for me to know that he loved me with all his soul. Those moments of bliss between us were enough to make me happy for existing.

“Are you feeling better?” I nodded. “Are you sleepy at all?” he asked since we seemed to be talking and talking and getting no rest. But it was good, my heart was much lighter and I was feeling better.

“Not really, I’m not tired. It was nice to talk about our lives and older memories. And now that you mentioned sex, well—I kind of am a bit—”

  “Horny?” he tried to guess.

  “Yeah.”

He chuckled, the sound shattering the silent night. I just waited for him to stop it and give me the attention I wanted. “Are you serious?” he asked, noticing that I wasn’t trying to make him laugh.

  “Yes,” I answered promptly.

“And here I was, trying to play nice.”

“I don’t want you to play nice. I want you to go down on me. Lick and kiss and make me come against your tongue,” I told him huskily, trailing my hand from his chest to his bulge and realizing that he was already getting hard. I liked how easily I could turn him on.

“I have a better idea,” he whispered, voice laced with yearning when my hand caressed his protuberance. “Why don’t you go down on me and I go down on you,” he suggested. I moaned when his hand caressed my inner thighs, looking for my sensible spot. I kind of melted under his touch, spreading my legs so he could have better access. “Open my pants, take it out, play with it,” he ordered me, licking my ear and cupping my sex. “I’ll do the same to you, you just need to turn around and climb on the top of me.”

“That could work too,” I managed to say against his lips. It was difficult to speak when he had his lips on mine, and his tongue was parting my lips to get in.

  AN OUTRAGEOUS INVITATION

I ARRIVED HOME BEFORE Ewan was up and made sure to wake him up with a hot cup of coffee and a beaming smile. After, I left with the excuse that I had classes to attend. I did, even if I didn’t need to. I spent my morning at the university and took my afternoon off to go to the library, pretending to study. Instead, I wrote my diary and kept track of all the new facts I learned about Ewan’s life. It was also a good excuse to spend time alone and stay away from Ewan’s demanding presence. He had told me in the morning that he was going to get his things, and he wanted me to let him move in with me. He wanted me to give him a key to my apartment, which he now had. I was putting myself in a lot of trouble, I was fully aware of that. In my defense, I had a plan for that night. I wanted to know what his version of what had happened to Violet was. But before I could go back home and set my plan in motion, I had an unexpected visit in the library.

“Hello,” Anastasia greeted, sitting by my side on the library bench.

“What do you want?” I asked, looking around and making the movement to get up, grab my things, and leave.

“Not so fast,” a male voice warned me, taking a seat on the other side of the bench. I was stuck between them.

I stared at the man and furrowed my eyebrows. It was Cyan. He smirked arrogantly, and I glared back at Anastasia. “Are you trying to scare me?” I was curious to know what she was up to.

She put a finger to her lips, telling me to be quiet. “We are in a library,” she added and smirked cheekily, staring at my books. “Sit down,” she motioned to me.

I obeyed, hugging my diary against my chest and casting a small spell of invisibility, so she couldn’t read what was inside. If she decided to grab it from my hands, the pages would appear blank. It was the same spell that I always cast after I closed it.

Pursing my lips and clenching my jaw, I relaxed enough to ask her, “What do you want from me?”

Her face was emotionless but her eyes shone with hate. “I want you to leave.”

  I frowned. “I don’t understand.”

“I want you to leave this country. Go back to your pitiful life and don’t ever come back.”

I fought the urge to smirk at her. Instead, I played dumb and asked, “Why would I do that?”

“I could just enthrall you to obey me, you know?”

  “So, why don’t you?”

“I need you to be really persuasive in convincing Ewan that you aren’t in love with him and that you don’t want to live with him.”

I grabbed my phone in a stupid attempt to call Ewan. She grabbed it from my hand and motioned her finger left and right in a clear sign of amusement and warning. “Don’t be a silly girl. I’m faster and deadly. You have no chance against me. I want you away from Ewan. I want you to tell him that you don’t love him and that you don’t want him to move in with you.”

“But I already told him he could move in with me and that I love him,” I explained, smirking mentally.

“Yes, I know all about your wonderful night together. How you make him feel so alive. The thing is that this is not the first time that he’s acted like this,” she muttered low, so others wouldn’t listen to our conversation. Her words caught my attention. I narrowed my eyes, interested. “Every time he sees some girl that resembles Violet, he starts fantasizing. He had promised me that this was going to be the last time that I needed to marry a rich guy to support our lifestyle. Then we would live together and stop pretending to be brother and sister so we could be husband and wife.”

I didn’t know if the girl was making all that up or she had some vivid fantasy that she wanted to fulfill with Ewan. Or maybe it was all true. They had a strange relationship—they were certainly involved, and Ewan always chose a submissive woman to indulge his whims. Besides, Anastasia’s words summed up pretty well my own life with Ewan.

“Do you think I’m lying? We’ve been together for more tha
n a century now. He’s been pulling this stunt of how heartbroken he has been all this time because of the death of his wife for nearly eighty years now. Or did you think you were special? He does this every time to win the woman’s heart. He doesn’t love you. He’s just bored and trying to find another replacement to indulge his fantasy of being in love with Violet, his long-lost true love.”

“If he doesn’t love me, why do you want me to stay away from him?” I reasoned with her, feeling my stomach hurt at her words.

“I don’t want him to move to the US. It’s too far from me. I’ll have to stay here to marry Ludovic.”

“You should have this conversation with him, not me,” I said, growing tired and getting up.

Cyan’s hand on my shoulder made me sit back. I glared at him. He was so going to pay when I could catch him alone. He didn’t need to be a brute.

Anastasia lost her patience as she muttered, “I have a better idea. You break up with him, keep this conversation between us, and I don’t let my friend over there, kidnap, rape, and suck dry your cute brunette friend. You know, the one with the cute boyfriend that I almost drank dry.”

“You bitch!” I snarled, livid by her threat.

A hush noise to make us keep quiet was heard from a lot of the users. I pursed my lips and glared at Anastasia with murdering eyes. She was smiling, finding me amusing, no doubt. She wouldn’t be smiling if my fist met her mouth.

“You are a pathetic fragile human. I can snap your neck in no time. So, if you value your life and your friend’s life, you will do what I tell you to do. You will be out of this country by tomorrow, or I’ll make my threat valid.”

“You are fucking insane. Ewan clearly doesn’t love you. He wants to get rid of you. He told me so.”

“Shut up! He doesn’t have any idea what he wants. He’s always acting like this, and he ends up by doing what I want. Who do you think kept him happy all the time that you weren’t giving him any?”

“What are you talking about?” I asked, confusion spreading on my face.

“We fuck together,” she whispered in my ear, making me open my eyes wide. She was desperate and telling the truth to drive me away from Ewan. “We aren’t brother and sister. The night you came whining about what I had done to your friend, he had been fucking me hard from behind. Nice and hard.” She placed her hand on knee. “He even told me how good it would be if we could fuck the three of us together. He would like to watch me lick your pussy.” I pushed her back so she would stop talking in my ear. She laughed, finding my disgust amusing. “Do you want to try it now? Are you horny, Sarah? Cyan has a really nice cock. We could go back and try it. What do you say?”

“I think you are out of your mind,” I declared, looking at Cyan and noticing that he was getting hard with Anastasia’s words. “I’ll scream for help if you two try to even touch me,” I stated, staring from Cyan to Anastasia.

“I told you she wouldn’t do it,” Anastasia said to Cyan. “She is a damn prude. I can’t even understand what Ewan sees in her.”

“I don’t know, but I sure would like to try it,” he teased.

I looked at him sideways. He was pushing his luck and probably didn’t treasure his teeth. I was shocked by the crap they were saying in a public library. Glimpsing around, I noticed that people were beginning to look at us. Some seemed a bit curious, but they just stuck their eyes on their books when they noticed me watching them.

“I have warned you, bitch. You have until tomorrow to leave,” she muttered in my ear before getting up and leaving with Cyan by her side. He put his hand over her butt, squeezing it and, for a moment there, I got a bit worried. I was hoping that Cyan was only taking his job serious, and he wasn’t falling into Anastasia’s charm. Things could go terribly wrong if he told her who I really was.

Moments after, I picked up my stuff and went home. I didn’t know what I would do about Anastasia’s intimidation and ultimatum. It was an unexpected event. I was hoping she would pull a stunt like that on me, but I wasn’t counting on her using my friends to get to me. Also, after reading the messages they had sent each other, I was not that sure that Ewan was leaving Anastasia for me. However, her showing up to threaten me and ask me to leave Ewan was a sign that things were more than bad between them. Apparently, she was pissed that Ewan was letting her go. She should be grateful, at least he wasn’t planning to kill her like he had planned to kill me. On the other hand, things couldn’t be more providential. My plan was working accordingly. My revenge was following its course. But one thing was threatening my life and another was threatening Francesca’s life. I had to ask Galvin to take her and Sebastien to our headquarters, so they would be safe. At least until all this messy revenge was over. I didn’t want collateral damage. And now more than ever, my hand was itching to grab my sword and cut Anastasia’s head off.

  * * *

I arrived home, still drowned in thoughts of the previous conversation. Anastasia’s words about them being lovers were repeating inside my head. I was having doubts about believing her when I was so sure before my plan was put in motion. Even worse, I didn’t know why I was having second thoughts about Ewan’s actions. He had always been a lying bastard. Why am I not believing that he was screwing Anastasia while going out with me? It was the most likely thing to happen. I shouldn’t feel offended by it, since, as she well put it, I wasn’t giving him any. He was horny and wanted me badly. But desiring a woman never kept him away from another woman’s bed. He was a lying and cheating man. Why would it be different with Sarah? Even Galvin said that he cheated on Ebony. Once a cheater always a cheater. The idea of a threesome with them disgusted me. He must be out of his mind to think I would ever sleep with both. He could keep dreaming about it because the only threesome they would get was an encounter with my sword dancing against their throats.

I opened the door of my apartment and let a book drop on the floor. It was when I heard the laughter and smelled the food that someone was cooking on the stove. I didn’t use that thing. I had no idea how to cook since I didn’t need to eat. When I raised my head, three friendly smiles greeted me. Francesca, Sebastien, and Ewan were in my apartment in some sort of dinner-reunion since Ewan was cooking and the table was set for four.

“Oh! I’m so glad you have finally arrived home,” Francesca squealed, running to hug me and making me drop the rest of the books on the floor. “Where have you been? The classes are over for ages.”

“At the library,” I replied, confused by what was happening. “We have a paper to deliver.”

“You study too much,” she said, happily, pulling me to the kitchen to join them.

“What is going on in here?” I asked, staring at Ewan.

“It’s a surprise dinner,” Ewan said. “I went to the hospital to check on Sebastien. He was cleared to go back home, so I invited them to come here to dine with us and celebrate us moving in together,” he shared. I think my face became extremely pale because he frowned. “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, of course not.” I chased away the confused face and smiled at them. At least it meant that I wouldn’t stay alone with him in that place. It was exhausting to run away from his sexual advances. “I’m really glad that you are okay,” I said, approaching Sebastien and kissing him. “You scared us!”

“I know. It was really clumsy of me,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck with a timid grin.

“Hello, honey.” I kissed Ewan and looked at the stove. “What are you cooking?”

“Pasta,” he said. “Since you like it so much.”

“That’s nice. I’m hungry. It has been a long day,” I declared, strolling my way to the bedroom. “I’ll be right back. I just need a quick shower and a change of clothes.”

Before I could close the door behind me, I almost fell over the luggage that was occupying the free space of my already tiny bedroom. Ewan had brought his stuff to my house, and he hadn’t found time to unpack. Not that I thought there was any space in the wardrobe. I had
plenty of clothes myself there. I spun around, getting some of my clothes, so I could go to the bathroom and get cleaned. At least I knew where my friends were. They were safer next to me. Yet, I had to instruct Galvin to get them after they left my home and take them to safety.

  EWAN’S DECISION

THE DINNER WAS ENJOYABLE. We talked and laughed, making me forget, for a moment, the craziness that my life had become. Ewan acted like the perfect boyfriend, serving food, giving me his hand under the table, and treating me nicely. It was extremely disturbing to have him so devoted to me. Even if I was trying to act cool, my mind was troubled by Anastasia’s threats. I wanted to get my friends to safety. I needed to resolve the situation I had created and get rid of Ewan.

Time flew during the conversation. It was almost midnight when I began to wash the dishes while Ewan was bringing the glasses from the table. Francesca and Sebastien were sitting on the couch, talking sweetly to each other. They looked charming together. I was happy to see how their innocent and sweet love had blossomed.

“They make a really cute couple,” Ewan whispered in my ear, putting his arms around me to place the glasses in the dishwasher.

I panicked with his closeness but tried to control the urge to stay away from him. “They are adorable,” I agreed, nodding in the process. “They will make a lot of adorable babies,” I joked.

Ewan chuckled. “We would make a lot of adorable babies.” He nuzzled his nose against my hair.

“Too bad you are a vampire.”

“That’s the downside of being a vampire.”

“At least you had a baby,” I reminded him since I was still intrigued about that. “When you were married to the enchantress. You’ve never told me what happened to your baby,” I said, trying to lead the conversation to a point that would make him feel uncomfortable.

“No, I didn’t. Maybe I’ll tell you someday.”

“It must be hard…to think about it. Your baby and your wife died. Or don’t you ever think about that anymore? It’s been how long since you are a vampire?”
