Acknowledgments
I am in debt to many people who have had a hand in getting Measure Twice from the manuscript stage through the publication process. Although it would be impossible to list the names of all of those who have been involved, I do want to recognize a few individuals who helped keep me on
track.
As always, my wife Kasia has been incredibly patient and supportive. She is always there for me and is my partner in all things. I would also like to thank Dr. Gretchen Hartz who assisted me by answering my never-ending stream of medical questions regarding alcoholism and addiction. I would also like to thank Jeff Hartz for his continued assistance with maintaining my website and enduring my constant requests for changes and updates.
Additionally, I thank the incredibly supportive people in the Pittsburgh area. Over the years, I have approached many individuals with countless research questions and I cannot recall ever being turned away. I should point out that in Measure Twice I make mention of a particular historical location on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. While the site in the book is fictitious, it is inspired by an actual historical attraction in the same area. In the book, I portrayed the location in a certain manner for purposes of the story, not due to any errors in research.
Finally, while Measure Twice is a thriller, it is ultimately a story about the struggle within and the search for redemption. I thank all of the heroes—many in my hometown of Huntington, West Virginia—who have battled and conquered their own demons and addictions. Their stories are more complex than could ever be represented in a simple novel. I apologize for not being able to pay tribute to those who have fought the good fight in a more meaningful way.
