But he didn’t seem to understand what she was saying. She leaned back and pressed her mouth to his, taking her time, letting her lips trail over his chin, his jaw, along his neck until his hands dug into her flesh and he realized exactly what she meant.
“No more waiting,” he said, standing, her in his arms.
In her bedroom, he lowered her to her feet, sliding her along his body, making her lightheaded in a much more pleasant way than she’d been the last few days.
With exquisite tenderness, he tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear, staring at her as if he was amazed at what he saw.
“I thought of a hundred different ways to make this perfect for you,” he whispered.
“Me too. But all I need for it to be perfect is you.”
“You’re all I’ll ever want, Ellie.”
Her heart stuttered and surged at the same time, creating a tight sensation in her chest. “I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for you.”
His lips touched hers, his fingertips skating up over her arms, along the sides of her neck until both of his hands were buried in her hair. She couldn’t get close enough and more than once she had to tell herself to breathe. Then she didn’t care if she did.
Time slowed as her pulse quickened and Cooper walked her backward to the bed until her knees hit the mattress. He bent his knees, lifted her by the waist and set her down on the bed.
Everything else disappeared. The only thing she could see or feel was him. And looking at him, she knew he felt the same.
As he leaned over her, gently easing her onto her back, he whispered against her neck, “No more waiting.”
Her fingertips trailed up his spine and she delighted in the shiver that wracked his body. When he lifted his head, stared into her eyes, he grinned, quick, fun and sexy.
“But I promise, baby, it’ll be worth the wait.”
Ellie believed him like she love him: with all her heart.
