Wifely Duty

"You are still going to spank me for being so rude, aren't you?" she asked.
"Yes."
"I deserve it," she shocked him by admitting.
Charles poured a glass of water from the pitcher on the stand. "You drink every bit of this, Glenna."
Glenna did so. "Thank you," she smiled as she handed him the glass. "I am fine now, Charles, truly."
"Then you may undress and prepare yourself for bed, Glenna. I will bring a supper tray up as soon as I reheat the meal Mary prepared for us. I expect to find you in bed when I return."
"Yes, sir," Glenna nodded. She had spent a considerable portion of her day knowing that her disobedience would not go unpunished. She knew that Charles would spank her, and she knew that a spanking was well deserved. She only hoped he did not make her start the entire week of confinement at the very beginning.
Glenna changed out of her clothing, taking the time to put things neatly where they belonged. She put on a clean gown, and then washed her face and hands. She took the pins from her hair, picked up her hairbrush, and carried it over to the bed with her. She crawled beneath the sheets, and propped the pillows behind her.
As she brushed her hair she could not help but think about her mother. Glenna would have thought her own mother would be happy for her... but she had reacted like Glenna had done something wrong. Glenna felt the tears start again, and wondered how long it would be before her mother forgave her for choosing Charles over her. She had no false illusions where her Mother was concerned. Pearl was an unhappy, bitter woman.
"Sweetheart, don't cry," Charles said comfortingly when he walked in carrying a large tray laden with food. He put the tray on top of a chest of drawers, and then came over to give her a hug. "You are safe now."
"Mother will never forgive me, Charles."
"Forgive you?" he repeated. "She is the one who needs to ask forgiveness!" he remonstrated.
"She will not be happy that I chose you over her."
"Glenna, you have done nothing to be ashamed of. I want you to believe me."
"I love you, Charles, and I am here with you because I want to be."
Charles kissed her. "You are going to eat something now, little one. You must be starving." He filled a plate with food, and brought it to her to eat.
"This is so good, Charles. I will thank Mary tomorrow, and do my very best to make amends. I was ashamed of myself as soon as I said the words. I will not do that again," she said between bites of roast beef.
"I am sorry I left the house today, too. I was so anxious to tell Mother how happy we are... and it just seemed mean for you to insist I stay home two more days. I wish I had obeyed you..."
"I wish you would have, too," Charles smiled. "I am going to feel like an ogre taking you to task for your disobedience."
"You should not worry so," Glenna answered. "I am in the wrong, you are not. I knew when I walked out the door this morning that you would spank me. At the time it just did not matter. Now, I am regretting it very much."
"And you will have cause to regret it more after we finish eating," Charles answered. He simply would not let the little minx talk her way around a spanking. Especially one that she richly deserved.
Glenna ate hungrily, enjoying the meal, and was pleased there was dessert. The cobbler was tasty, and finally she was full.
"Do you feel better now, honey?" Charles asked with a smile.
"Much. I will tend the dishes..." she started to get up.
"No, you will stay where you are, Glenna. I will tend the dishes, and then we will have a discussion about today's disobedience."
Charles carried the heavy tray down to the kitchen, and while he did not normally do dishes, he did not feel it was fair to leave a mess for Mary to tend in the morning. He took his time, wanting to think things through before facing his wife. Glenna was very rude to Mary, but she had confessed to it of her own free will, and was ready to made amends. Charles figured a light spanking would suffice.
Her disobedience, however, in leaving the house when she was restricted for two more days, especially when she asked to have the punishment lifted and was given a firm 'NO' in response, could not be ignored. It was outright defiance. He did not blame her in any way for what happened in her Mother's home, but the fact she intended to sneak out and not tell him about it was another matter that would have to be firmly dealt with.
The dishes were done, the kitchen all tidied, and Charles was satisfied. He went out into the back yard, and cut a switch and prepared it. Out and out defiance would be dealt with swiftly and effectively.
********************
Glenna was nervous. She knew Charles was going to punish her, and that she had earned a punishment, but that did not mean she was looking forward to what he was going to do. She tried to imagine what he would feel appropriate, and that truly frightened her. She did not lie to him, so perhaps there would be no soaping, and she prayed he would not force her to endure an enema. The waiting was upsetting her, and she kept thinking of how she had gone to the door of her room time and time again during the day, only to learn it would not open. Suddenly, Glenna had to test this door. She jumped out of bed, and ran to the door, and it opened easily. She stepped into the hallway, tears pouring down her cheeks, and that is how Charles found her; leaning against the wall in the hall, crying.
"Why are you out of bed, Glenna?" he asked in genuine concern.
"I had to make sure the door would open, Charles," she tearfully admitted. "My mind kept returning to my parents' house. And I just had to be sure... I am sorry."
"There is no need to be sorry for that, little one. I will never lock you in, not without telling you, and then it would be to protect you, not punish you in any way. I give you my word," he said simply, hugging her tightly.
Glenna clung to him, taking strength from his presence. Then she noticed the switch in his hand. "Oh no!" she wailed in distress, and then looked up at him questioningly.
"Defiance is a serious matter, little one," he said softly, then added, "If you feel too distraught over the day's events, I will wait until tomorrow to correct you... I do not wish the punishment to be more than you can bear emotionally."
"I would rather have it over with," she whispered. "I am truly sorry, Charles, and if I could go back to this morning, I would make the choice to obey you."
"I believe you would," he caressed her cheek, and then led her into their room. "We will deal with the matter of Mary first," he said, sitting on the bed, and pulling her over his lap.
Glenna felt her gown raised without ceremony, and the first spank promptly landed on her right cheek. "I want you to know that I am very pleased you told me yourself of your shameful behavior." He spanked her several more times. "I am also pleased you offered to apologize without being told."
The spanking continued, and Glenna was squirming already, and she knew he'd barely started.
"A day off with pay, from your allowance, is very fair..." Charles stated, peppering her backside with spanks meant to sting like the very devil. The backs of her thighs received equal treatment, and then her sit spots. He was going to give his bride to understand that she would not treat the help with disdain.
"I am sorry, Charles!" Glenna said tearfully. "I will never be rude to Mary again, I promise!"
"I am sure you will not! Or I may very well choose to take you over my knee right in front of her!"
"Oh!" Glenna gasped. "I will not, Charles! Please do not embarrass me so!"
"Are you going to repeat this behavior?" he demanded, spanking her again.
"No, sir! I promise I will not!"
Charles stopped spanking, and then stood her in front of him. "I sincerely hope you keep this promise, Glenna. Mary has been with me for some time, and I would hate to see her leave us because of your temper."
"I will apologize to her first thing in the morning, Charles. I promise it will not happen again."
"Good. Now that is settled. Why did you disobey me this morning, Glenna
?"
"Because I wanted to see Mother... because I was so tired of staying home all day alone... because I felt I was doing everything you asked of me, and I wanted you to let me off a bit early. I was upset when you said no, and I let my temper have its way."
"Did you understand the confinement to this house was meant as a punishment, Glenna?" he asked. "It was given for the fit you threw in public when I forbade you the hat?"
"Yes, Charles," she looked down.
"Are punishments supposed to be pleasurable?"
"No, sir."
"I am very pleased with the way you have responded to my attentions, wife," he put his hand under her chin and raised her face so he could look into her eyes. "But your punishment for the way you behaved in public has nothing to do with how well you are doing at pleasing me in bed. It was given so that you would realize that throwing a temper tantrum in a store, in front of others, will not be tolerated. I wanted you to have a full week confined to this house to remind you that the sort of behavior you exhibited is not acceptable and will not be tolerated."
"I am sorry for the way I behaved that day, Charles. I will not do so again."
"No, you will not," he said firmly. "You will spend the next week within this house"
"But, Charles! I only had today and tomorrow left!" she wailed, upset with his decision.
"Yes, you will serve those two days, and an additional five to remind you that it is wise to accept a punishment when it is given."
"May I please have visitors at least?" she asked tearfully. "I miss my friends!"
"If you had obeyed me, Glenna, you would only have tomorrow to remain at home, and then you would have regained your freedom and your friends. No, you may not invite friends to the house. You will accept your punishment. Is that clear, or do I need to reinforce it with the back of your hairbrush?"
Glenna wanted to scream, but she merely nodded. "I will stay home."
"You were told to write an essay today, and promised a spanking at bedtime for your sassy behavior at breakfast. I am inclined to think the day spent locked in your old bedroom gave you time to think and reconsider your actions. Am I correct, Glenna?" he asked quietly, his dark eyes searching her face.
"Yes, sir. I wrote the essay in my head several times, and I do regret my temper with you this morning. I apologize."
"Very well, your apology is accepted. Now we are left with your defiance. For that you will be switched."
"Charles, you have already increased my time at home... must you switch me, too?"
"You earned the time at home previously, and the extra time I tacked on was for not accepting that punishment. Your switching is for deliberately defying me today. You were told 'no' to leaving the house, and let your temper make a choice your bottom will now pay for. Stack the pillows on top of each other."
Glenna reluctantly did as she was told. She was positive this switching was going to be absolutely terrible, and her bottom was already stinging from the spanking he had administered.
"I want you to raise your gown, little one, and place your bare bottom on top of the pillows so that I have a nice target."
"Please do not do this, Charles. I am most sorry already, and I promise I will obey you and stay within the house... Please...?"
"Glenna, did you defy me while angry?"
"Yes, sir," she whispered.
"Then you will face the consequence for doing so. Please do not make this harder on yourself. Get into position now, or I will add another ten for non-compliance."
Glenna did not wish to make the switching any worse. She pulled her gown up to her waist, then knelt on the bed, and put her bottom on top of the pillows. She felt extremely vulnerable, but Charles was not satisfied.
"I want you to spread your legs far apart, Glenna. I want complete access to everything," his words shocked her.
"You would not switch me... there...? Oh please, Charles... Do not switch me there! I could not bear it if you did!"
"Do you wish extras, wife?"
"No, sir!" She spread her legs wide open, feeling even more vulnerable than before. She was already crying, and he had yet to touch her with the switch.
"How many do you feel is fair, wife?" he asked conversationally; her answer was important to him.
"Charles, I am truly sorry, and I regret my impulsiveness. Would twenty-five be acceptable to you?" she asked. He'd given her forty with his razor strop... Hopefully he would think this a lesser crime.
Charles smiled. He'd planned on thirty. "It will be acceptable, Glenna, provided you stay in place and do not jump around.
Glenna heard the switch whistle through the air before she felt in on her right thigh. The blazing line of fire spread quickly and she gasped in pain. The second line landed on her left buttock, and the third left a stripe right below the second.
"It hurts! It really hurts!" Glenna wailed. "Please, honey, stop! I am so sorry!" The switch landed again, on her right cheek, and Glenna screeched with pain, and jumped off the bed. "Please... no more, Charles. I am so sorry... Please... I will be good now."
"You will get in place, Glenna, and you will take your punishment, and the ten extra you have just earned."
"Oh no! Noooooooooooo!" she wailed in distress. "I am so sorry, Charles. It just hurts so very much!"
"Defiance and disobedience hurt our marriage, little one. I will never let you off lightly for such behavior. Do as I say now, and I will help you stay in place."
Glenna tearfully climbed on the bed, and raised her gown again. She bent over the pillows, offering her bottom for correction. Charles placed his left hand on her lower back, and for some reason she could not begin to explain, his touch was reassuring. The switching continued, and as Charles promised, he did not spare her. She would not wish to sit for the next few days.
"That is the end of the twenty-five, Glenna. Now we have ten more to administer to teach you to stay in place when you are being punished. "You will count each one, and thank me." SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!!
"Owwww!" It fell on her sit spot, and it really hurt. "One... Thank you."
"One, thank you, sir," he corrected gently.
"One, thank you, sir," she dutifully repeated.
"That's better." SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!!
"Two, thank you, sir!"
SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!!
"Ohhhh," she moaned. "Three, thank you, sir."
SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!!
"Four... thank you, sir... Please, no more..." SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!! "Owww! Honey, I cannot stand this!!!" SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!! "Six..."
"No, you missed one, and it did not count. That was five..."
"Five, thank you, sir," she was sobbing. He kept laying welts on her sit spot and lower cheeks and upper thighs. SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!! "Six, thank you, sir... please..." SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!! "Seven... thank you, sir!"
SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!! "Eight, thank you, sir!" she sobbed, and Charles felt sorry for her. Her bottom was striped and welted...
"Have you learned your lesson, Glenna?" he asked.
"Yes, sir. I am so sorry."
"Then I will give you the last two quickly and it will be done." SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!!
SWIIISSSSSSHHHTT!!!
Glenna sagged in relief, crying her heart out. Charles gently pulled the pillows from beneath her, and settled her on her side of the bed. He secured the house for the night, then undressed and put out the light, and crawled into bed with her, pulling her into his arms and holding her.
"I do not feel like making love tonight, Charles," she whispered.
"I am sure you do not," he replied sympathetically. "You just rest now and let me hold you. You are safe, little one, and other than your confinement, we are done with this punishment."
Glenna fell into an exhausted sleep, but Charles lie awake for a long time. He had a serious problem to deal with, and was not sure how to proceed. He did not want to lose his wife's affection, but he wanted her to have nothing further to do with her wicked mother. Pearl was a terrible influence in Glen
na's life, and Charles would not put up with the things Elmer lived with on a daily basis.
Chapter Six
Charles woke instantly when Glenna kissed his cheek. "Good morning," he said with a smile. "What is this?" he asked in surprise when he saw the tray.
"I brought you breakfast in bed," Glenna smiled. "You were sleeping so peacefully I did not have the heart to wake you."
"I am running late!" Charles frowned as he glanced at the clock sitting on top of the dresser.
"The business will survive if you are late one morning, husband," Glenna said bossily. "Here is your coffee. I sweetened it just the way you like it," she smiled.
"You are in a very good mood this morning," he stated.
"I am in a good mood," she agreed. "I am a lucky woman, and I am smart enough to know that."
"How is your bottom?" he asked.
"Very striped and very sore," she smiled shyly. "I am sorry I defied you, Charles. I do not want a marriage like my parents have, and I am thankful that you love me enough to spank me when I do things I should not."
"I do not want a marriage like your parents have, either, little one. I am very displeased with your mother right now, and I have not decided what to do about it. I know that you love her very much, but I am not sure that having her in our lives is going to work."
"I do not know why she acts the way she does, Charles. I tried to tell her how happy I am, but she would not believe me. She put Father from her bed several years ago... and the thought I could be so happy with you is unbelievable to her."
"You are happy with me?" he asked with a smile.
"Yes, I am, Charles. I prayed you would come for me and not let Mother send you away." She paused, and then said, "You eat your breakfast, and I will get out your clothing," she offered.
Charles smiled as Glenna moved around the room. She seemed happy, and he was relieved. He'd worried that he'd been too harsh with her last evening, especially after the day she had spent locked in her old bedroom. She chatted away as he ate his breakfast, and then followed him to the water closet to watch him shave. He watched her facial contortions in the mirror as she watched him, and he found himself laughing at her antics. She tied his tie for him, and remarked that he looked most handsome, and then walked him down to the front door. He received a passionate goodbye kiss, and Charles was at the front door of his establishment before he realized that he had not asked Glenna if she had apologized to Mary.
