Matakeo: Echoes of the Future

“And what about the human named Kwin?” he asked in a melodic voice. “Was he detoured?”

  “No, my Lord.”

A frown appeared upon the king's face. What sounded like a million member orchestra playing resounded from his persona as he stood to his feet.

“And the Paradisiacal?” He asked and hoped for a positive reply. “Is she dead?”

“No, my Lord.” His gaze lowered to his master's feet. “Trorial intervened and came to her aid.”

“Well, see to it that she dies!”

Scion stood in front of the throne. He bowed before the Lumi people. This brought about an earnest desire within himself to serve his people. Then he turned to his right and showed the same courtesy to the small group who accompanied him.

The first was his mother, who had a smile on her face and a tear in her eye. She was the most elaborate dressed female in the entire palace. Scion walked up and kissed her on the cheek. A heartfelt hush settled upon the crowd.

Darius, dressed in Matakeo Reds fashioned just for the occasion, acknowledged with a nod. Then there was Teron. Attired in a beautiful blue and gold hemmed dress, she blushed.

“Thank you all.” With that said, Scion turned and faced the crowd of spectators. Rimsen came up from behind him. The human carried a robe fit for a king. Solemnly, he draped it about the boy’s shoulders. The white fur trim of the purple-velvet vesture caressed the Corbanium marble floor.

After Rimsen had returned to his designated spot, Scion turned and bowed to him.

Rantain was next to honor his new king. He carried with him the coronal that represented the authority of the Lumi people. The crown measured three feet in height and made from the purest Richium. There were many ornamental cuts throughout the head-piece. Purple velvet lined the cuts.

Scion tilted his head forward as his cousin placed the treasure upon his head.

“Please welcome, your new king.” Rantain addressed the masses. A huge round of applause erupted in front of the throne. Like an electrical current flowing through conduit, so did the excitement of the people surge out of the palace and into the streets. The celebration of a new era on Luminescence had commenced.

Later that evening, after most had retired from the inaugural ball, Darius inquired his friend.

“So are you positive about this?”

“Yes,” Rimsen replied. “The Lumi people have the technology to further study this fourth strand of DNA in us Matakeo. Besides, I promised Scion I would teach him the ways of our God.”

“Is there any way I can change your mind?”

“We will catch up with each other someday soon.” Rimsen extended his hand in friendship.

“I will hold you to that.” Darius gripped his friend’s hand firmly.

“You will be welcome here anytime,” Rimsen said with a smile. “So how long are you going to stay?”

“Actually, Teron and I will be leaving shortly.” In his mind, he recalled the words of the Slumpshrill. When the alien spilled his prophecy, Darius had passed it off as nonsense. A lot was beginning to make sense now. There was the trinket Vomica had in her possession belonging to Devin Jorke. The piece was similar to the alien artifact he found in the kaleidoscope. All of this brought back to memory about some alien symbols he had seen in an ancient book while at Academy and from what Catharsis had shared. The more he contemplated these thoughts the more he realized they were all tied together. This made him think of the group that had gone searching for the Gray Acumen.

“We need to catch up with some new acquaintances of ours.”

“So be it,” Rimsen said. “Well, don’t be a stranger.”

  “I promise.” Darius excused himself.

Rimsen looked on as his two friends made their way to the door. He turned and looked at Scion. The young king saluted him with the Lumi victory sign.

  About the Author

All my life I have been in love with science fiction and astronomy. Early on I was held spellbound by "The Big Three"; Asimov, Clarke & Heinlein. I create believable characters in phenomenal circumstances, composing action, adventure, mystery, intrigue and the treatment of science in stories I believe the reader will be captivated by.

Many of the technologies we enjoy today had been beautifully created many years before in someone’s science fiction story. I strive to become one of those prophets of literature. At times in life I have had the odds stacked against me, I keep myself humble when the cards fall my way and always give thanks to the Creator for his love and favor.
