James “Jym” Ramage is my oldest friend. We have known each other since first grade, and he has played in my campaign from the very beginning. Jym created Danj, Asria, Celebern, and Siljan. He deserves the credit—or perhaps blame—for “Rohoville”, “Royal Stone Thing”, and “Good Kind Danj the Good”.
Brian Chevrier is the creator of Birchbark, Hagen, Draymund, and Saxloc. It was he that decided that Saxloc would ignore and avoid Audrey when she first moved to his house. And it was he that surprised me by having Saxloc suddenly start caring for Audrey after she broke the engagement and revealed her martial arts training.
Kathy “Kat” Chevrier is the creator of Medea, Gabriel, Marryn, and Branwyn. She didn’t meet her eventual husband Brian through my D&D campaign, but they certainly spent many hours with each other while playing in it.
Noah Ramage is Jym’s son. He created Hankin.
Dean Allemang created Grasapa (originally Grace à Pas), and was the one who gave Albert his personality and quirks.
Ray Blair ended up marrying one of Jym Ramage’s sisters (Kirsten). He created Adrian.
Roho was more or less a group character, run by a variety of people before his fourteenth and final death. He was a truly inept dwarf fighter.
I will take the credit for creating a host of other characters, including: Alessandra, Aliva, Almera, Anton, Ariel, Carlinda, Cinda, Daragrim, Ermiana, Ermizad, Erwin, Isadora, Kora, Marilee, Romee, and Violet.
Brian Chevrier, Kat Chevrier, and Kirsten Blair read the initial version of my book, and their feedback and criticism led me to make major revisions that resulted in a much-improved work. Jym Ramage, David Matthews, Shirley Hoover, and Susan Lee also provided useful feedback.
The cover was created by Brandi McCann, a talented artist who patiently put up with my indecision and requests for numerous changes.
About the Author
M. Gregg Roe did not grow up in a small farming village. He grew up in central Ohio, and attended the rather large university based there. He lived and worked for a time in Virginia and California before finally taking up residence in Tennessee.
Gregg has a Ph.D. in physics, which helps not at all when writing a fantasy novel. His leisure activities include cycling, anime, travel, reading (primarily fantasy and hard science fiction), and, of course, D&D.
