  “Thanks man,” Malachi smiled.

“Oh, and I’ll be sure to tell one more female that you said Happy New Year,” Desmond called out with a sly grin.

“Oh, you mean my mom, no need, she and I spent the whole day together and I’m about to call her right now,” Malachi responded with a smirk. He knew damned well who Desmond was referring to.

“Yeah nigga, you know who the hell I’m talking about,” Desmond responded as he neared the club door. Malachi laughed and shook his head.

“Man, later, Des!” he yelled out.

Desmond laughed along with him as he put up his index and middle finger meaning deuces and made his exit.

  Five Hours until Midnight:

  Andre & Arianna’s home

Andre grinned seductively as he entered he and Arianna’s bedroom. Biting his bottom lip, he couldn’t control himself as he took in a five months pregnant Arianna. She was gorgeous and glowing. She could be the poster board for pregnant women everywhere to remind them that you can be pregnant with swollen feet and still be sexy.

“Damn, damn, damn, I see what I want,” Andre said in a song like tone.

Arianna immediately shook her head as she grinned as well. “Well, you’re not going to get it,” she replied in the same song like tone.

“Ri, stop playing,” he walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Looking through the dresser mirror, their eyes met as they smiled at each other. “How’s my baby girl doing?” He asked as he placed his hands on her round belly.

“Who, me or her?” Arianna pointed to her stomach.

“Her,” he rubbed her stomach. “I could tell you’re good. Shit, you look good too. Besides, she’s my baby girl and you’re my sexy ass wife,” He grinned once more. Arianna blushed. “Now, let me get some of this good preggo pussy,” he whispered in her ear and licked her earlobe, causing Arianna to blush even more.

“Babe, everyone is downstairs,” she managed to say between moans. Andre wasn’t taking no for an answer and in one quick motion, he managed to lift the long, black, elegant dress she wore and slide her underwear to her ankles. He cupped her full breast and rubbed his erection against her backside. “Okay, you can have some, but make it quick, babe. I’m hungry,” she whispered.

Andre laughed before lowering his head and kissing on her neck. “You’re always hungry,” he pointed out as she rolled her eyes at him and smirked. Turning her around, he lowered his head and kissed her passionately. Once they pulled apart, he kissed her forehead. He then bent down to her ankles and pulled up her underwear and pulled her dress down.

“What, you don’t want it anymore?” she smiled at him.

“Oh, hell yeah I do, and trust, later, you better be ready for me, but since you said you’re hungry, let’s go feed my baby,” he linked his hand with hers. “I love you,” he added and kissed her lips once more before heading towards the bedroom door.

“I love you too. So, you’re not disappointed that we’re having a girl?” Arianna asked him as they made their exit.

“Disappointed? Why the hell would I be disappointed? I’m having her with you. As long as I have all of my kids with you, I will never be disappointed.”

“Aww, babe, that’s so sweet. Hey, what do you mean, all?” Arianna asked.

“I mean all, like in all five of them,” Andre joked as Arianna rolled her eyes.

  (Downstairs)

“Miss Ava, someone is here to see you and he has baby Cal with him,” Marie announced as she entered Arianna and Andre’s ballroom which was fully equipped with tables, chairs, a bar, a lounge area and a sound system.

Arianna, Ava, Angeline, Lorette, Patrice along with Desmond and Andre were seated at the table, enjoying cocktails and appetizers.

  “What?” Ava asked looking confused.

“Well, who can it be with my baby? Is it an older man?” Ava asked, referring to the possibility of Jason’s father at the door with baby Calvin.

“No, it’s a younger man who happens to look just like baby Cal,” Marie added in her thick Haitian accent.

  “Where are they?”

“They are in the living room,” Marie responded.

Ava stood up from the table and made her way to the entrance of the house. Andre and Desmond followed as they were curious to know what the hell Jason could possibly want. Ava’s scheduled date to see the baby was Sundays only. She practically ran as she made it to the living room in record time. She immediately beamed with happiness as she lay eyes on her son sitting on Jason’s lap.

“Awww, look at mommy’s baby looking so handsome in his little suit,” she cooed as she noticed his mini bow-tie, which coordinated with his little dress pants, shirt and vest. Once he heard Ava’s voice he jumped off of Jason’s lap and ran into Ava’s arms. She kissed his forehead and cheeks. Jason stood to his feet as he watched them. He couldn’t help it as he smiled. Although he never admitted it to Ava, he found her to be an amazing mother. The past few months she’s visited their son, Jason became more and more impressed with how mature she had become and how loving and attentive she was towards him. Ava hugged the baby once more before turning her attention towards Jason.

“So, what brings you here? I’m not scheduled to see him until Sunday and I always come to your house.”

“Well it’s New Year’s Eve and since you won’t get to see him until Sunday, I thought it’s only right I bring him to see you,” Jason explained.

Ave studied him with a shock expression on her face. “Only right? Well, last week, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fell on a week day, but I didn’t get to see him until Sunday. So, what is the difference now?”

“Ava, this was my first Christmas with him and it was only right I spent it with him. Even though you gave him up for adoption, it was an open adoption, and I am well aware that you were very much active in his life. You were even able to spend the last two holidays and his birthdays with him and I was completely left unaware that he even existed. You wrong for that, Ava. That wasn’t fair to me or him,” Jason addressed.

Ava continued holding baby Cal in her arms as she stared at Jason. Although she hated to admit it, he had a valid point but she would be damned if she ever told him so.

“Aight, let me get lil’ man. Ya’ll can’t be having that kind of talk in front of him,” Desmond interrupted them as he scooped baby Calvin from Ava’s arms and left the living room area.

“Ava, you good?” Andre scowled at Jason. Despite Jason’s illness, Andre felt limited compassion towards him. The fact that his little sister could’ve been infected with such a serious illness, due to Jason’s recklessness left little room to feel sorry for him.

“Yea, I’m fine,” she replied as she looked Andre’s way.

“What’s up, Dre?” Jason asked Andre. “I love this mansion. This is ten times bigger than the one you had two years ago. You and Arianna doing big things,” Jason added as he looked around the spacious living room with the off white furniture and fire place.

“We been doing big things,” Andre replied with the continuous scowl on his face. Mean mugging Jason, he turned his attention to Ava. “You sure you’re good? I’m going to check on Ri.”

  “I’m fine,” Ava responded.

Andre nodded his head as he scowled at Jason once more before making his exit.

“He hates my guts,” Jason said with a chuckled.

“Hate is such a strong word,” Ava wore a faint smile.

“Yeah, well, I’m definitely not his favorite person and I don’t blame him for how he feels. The six years we were together, I didn’t always do right by you. Sometimes I wish I could change back the hands of time and do a lot of things over,” Jason confessed as he eyed her.

Ava suddenly had an uneasy feeling come over her. Just as Jason was edging closer to her, Marie suddenly entered the living room followed by none other than Ezekiel Sanders. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as his eyes locked with Ava’s. For a moment, she was unable to peel her ey
es off of him. It had been three months since she laid eyes on him and she was experiencing the strangest feeling. Damn, I miss him she thought to herself. As her eyes were glued to him, she realized just how much she really missed him. She missed the friendship they were developing. She missed the way he talked and the way he walked. She missed his smile and his sarcastic sense of humor. She missed styling him, but most of all she missed him. She could no longer deny her attraction to him.

As she gave him the once over, she noticed he kept up with the styling tips she gave him. He was looking GQ ready, dressed in dark brown, leather shoes, brown slacks and a light brown, V-neck sweater. He completed the look with a dark brown, leather jacket. As he removed his jacket to hand to Marie who instructed him to do so, she also noticed the gold, blinding, Rolex watch laced with diamonds he wore on his wrist, along with a gold chain with a cross around his neck. She smiled at the fact he followed another one of her styling tips. Although she appreciated the fact he wasn’t flashy and reckless with his money, she advised him that the correct accessories could bring an outfit to life.

“I’ll hang your jacket up for you, Monsieur,” Marie addressed Ezekiel. “Please be seated. I will let Mr. Aeikan know that you have arrived.”

“Thank you, ma’am,” Ezekiel politely responded. He smiled at Marie as she made her exit. “She’s great. Her accent is familiar. Is she by any chance Haitian?”

  “Yes, she is,” Ava replied.

“Oh okay. I figured the word Monsieur is French and means sir. Thanks to my step-mom, I know a little bit of Creole and French. It’s a very sexy language,” Ezekiel admitted as he approached Ava and Jason. As he neared closer to her, she was able to catch a whiff of his cologne and discreetly exhaled. Damn he smells good too she thought to herself.

“Oh yes… that explains why my brother is so cookoo for coco puffs over my sister-n-law. She’s Haitian as well.”

“Oh, word, Arianna? I mean, Mrs. Aeikan,” he corrected himself.

  “Yes,” Ava agreed with him.

“Oh okay. I think I read that somewhere in sports illustrated a little while back,” he stood face to face with Ava and Jason. “What’s going on, Jason? It’s been a while. I haven’t seen you since your retirement from the NBA,” Ezekiel stated as he extended his hand to Jason for a hand shake. Jason followed suit and they shook hands.

“Yeah, I’ve been laying low. Been trying to get my head together,” Jason clarified.

“That’s what’s up, man. Any plans on coming back on board to play ball?” Ezekiel inquired.

“No, man. I’m done with playing ball. I have a few business ventures I’ve been working on. I’m concentrating on that,” Jason replied.”

Ezekiel was about to pry, because him and the entire NBA wondered why out of the blue Jason decided to retire without any type of warning, Andre entered the living room.

“What’s up, E?” Andre greeted Ezekiel as they shook hands.

  “Man, I can’t call it.” “

Well, aight. It’s a good thing you made it. I know you said you said you didn’t have much going on tonight, so I figured I would invite you over to hang out with us,” Andre pointed out as Ezekiel smiled.

“Oh, sure thing, man. Yeah, I didn’t have much going on in Brooklyn so I decided to swing through. Plus, I have family in Jersey I wanted check out. So, thanks for inviting me,” Ezekiel thanked Andre as he glanced at Ava who quickly looked away.

“So, uuhm, is Cal staying with me tonight or are you taking him back home with you?” Ava asked Jason.

“No he can stay the night. His bag is on the couch,” he pointed to the couch and Ava smiled.

“Thank You,” she gloated over the fact she would have her son for a whole night. Since they were not due in court for another month, Jason still possessed temporary custody over him.

“No problem. Oh, also, the paperwork came back yesterday. His name change is now official. We can start calling him by his new name.”

“Oh, okay. Junior it is,” Ava expressed with a slight attitude.

“Actually, he’s not quite a Junior. His new name is Romero Jason Renners,” Jason confirmed as he eyed Ava slowly. Just as he expected, Ava grew emotional. Besides the tension between he and Ava, in the past five months over his temporary custody of their son, there was also tension over the baby’s name. After the constant back and forth, Jason decided to surprise her by naming their son after her dad, like she desired. He figured they would receive what they wanted and both parties would be left satisfied. As he stared at Ava’s beautiful face with tears of joy forming in her eyes, he knew he made the right decision.

“Are you serious?” She fought the tears.

“Yeah, it’s official. He gets your dad’s name and my name. I went last week and made the change. I’m glad it didn’t prolong the process.”

“Thank you,” Ava whispered. Overwhelmed with joy, she reached over and hugged Jason, who was both happy and shocked by the gesture. Jason was momentarily lost in the moment as he wrapped his arm around her waist and hugged her back. Neither of them remembered that they weren’t in the room alone until the sound of Andre clearing his throat, brought them back to reality. Breaking apart, Jason smiled at her and she also smiled. Wiping the tears from her eyes, she turned her attention to Andre. Strangely, her eyes fell upon Ezekiel, whose expression was difficult to read. Clearing her throat, she quickly turned to Andre. “That’s great news, right?” She asked him.

“Yeah, that’s great news,” Andre replied as he then turned to Jason. “Eh, thanks for that. I know that made her happy,” he said to Jason as he extended his hand to him. Jason smiled as he shook his hand.

“No problem. Glad you not mean mugging me anymore, Dre,” Jason said with a chuckled.

Andre smirked and nodded his head in agreement. “Eh, you keep a smile on my sister’s face like she has now and we all good.”

“Will do,” Jason chuckled once again. “Okay, well let me get going. Just call me tomorrow when you are on your way to bring Romero home,” He said to Ava as he looked into her eyes.

Ava smiled with Joy as she heard her dad’s name in reference to her son. Nothing made her happier. “Okay, I will. Oh, Happy New Year Jason,” Ava said to him as she was unable to remove the smile from her face.

“Happy New Year to you too,” He responded as he quickly bent down and kissed her on her cheek. Turning to to Andre and Ezekiel, he wished them both Happy New Year and made his exit.

“Damn, I never thought I’d see the day, that I almost like his ass,” Andre said in amusement as Ava laughed.

  “Shut up. He’s actually trying.”

“Yeah, well, lucky for him. So, come on you two, let’s go downstairs. We waiting for Mama Ro and Ed to get here to get this party started,” Andre commented.

As Andre, Ava and Ezekiel made their way towards the living room door; Andre Junior came running towards the living room door. “Dad! Dad! C’mon, we gotta go get Elijah!”

“What? Boy, what are you talking about?” Andre inquired, failing to understand what he was so frantic about.

“Elijah just called mom’s phone! His mom been missing since last night. He’s in his house all by himself! He says he has no food! Dad, we gotta go get him!”

“Yo, Dre, let’s go! Stacey is nowhere to be found. We have to go get Elijah, man, he just called Ari’s phone again!” Desmond headed towards the front entrance.

“Aight, Eh, A.J., stay here. We’ll be back. Stay here!” Andre ordered as he and Desmond quickly made their exit.

“Dammit! I’m sick of them treating me like a kid!” He yelled out as he kicked the wall before disappearing down the hall.

“Boy!” Ava hollered in shock as she held her chest.

“Lil man is something else,” Ezekiel couldn’t help but to chuckle.

  Chapter Twenty

  Two hours until midnight:

  Andre & Arianna’s Home

732-555-2211: I’m not sure if you still have me blocke
d or not, but if you see this, I just want to wish you wish Happy New Year. I miss you.

Arianna read the text message for what seemed like the twentieth time before responding.

Arianna: Happy New Year to you too. Hope all is well with you. Talk to you soon.

Once she completed the text message and hit the send button, she quickly shut her phone off. Placing her phone on the table, her eyes met with Angeline and Lorette, who shook her head with disappointment.

“Ken be jwe jwet. Ou yo ale nan lage mari ou. Plus, li nan move chans yo reflechi sou yon sel moun pandan y ap ansent ak ti beb mari ou a,” Lorette said in her native language creole. Shaking her head once more at Arianna, she stood from the table and simply walked away.

Arianna sighed in frustration as she continued eating the plate of food which sat in front of her. “She does have a point, Ari,” Angeline stated as she sipped on a glass of red wine.

“Uuugh, don’t start, Angi. I’m not in the mood for any lectures. We have two hours before the ball drops. I just want to enjoy my food and bring in the New Year peacefully. I’m not doing anything wrong. I chose my husband and that’s who I’m in love with. That’s who has my heart.”

“Okay, if you don’t feel like what you are doing is wrong, then why don’t you let Dre in on it? Tell him that you still speak to Mal. Tell him that you’ve seen him a few times in the past few months,” Angeline addressed. Arianna ignored her as she continued to eat her food. “Oh, so you’re just going to ignore me and continue stuffing your face?” Angeline asked causing Arianna to bust out laughing.

“Uuugh! Can you just let me eat in peace?”

“No, I can’t let your greedy ass eat in peace,” Angeline replied and Arianna continued laughing.

“I swear, between you and my mom getting on my nerves so damn much, my baby is going to come out looking just like the two of you,” Arianna joked.

“Well, she’ll be the luckiest baby in the world then,” Angeline replied as they laughed. “No but seriously Ari, you may not see what you are doing is wrong but it is. Anytime you have to do something behind your spouse’s back, you’re wrong. In your case, dead wrong.”
