Hitman's Journey Back in Time Page 15

by Joshua Schank

“I became a cop because I believed in our system. I believed that everyone could be corrected. I was wrong. I’ve watched many crooks either get off completely or do very little time only to turn around and kill some more. My dad never wanted me to become a cop. My dad was a multi millionaire; he was a landlord of hundreds of buildings. My dad wanted me to live a life of comfort, and that’s why he left his life savings to me. The only thing he wanted me to do was take over as the landlord, but that was never what I wanted to do with my life. I’ve only remained a cop, so I can keep close tabs on potential ‘new hits,’ ’’ said Todd.

Todd pulled out his suitcase that was next to him and put it on the table.

“Now, just hold on there, Todd,” said Henry

William quickly without being told by Henry walked over to the suitcase and opened it to make sure nothing dangerous was in it. All he seen was lots of money.

Williams stepped away. Todd begins grabbing big chucks of $100 bills that are in bundles and begins sitting them on Henry’s desk.

Henry looks over at William and then back at Todd smiling.

“There’s 3 million there,” said Todd.

Henry picks up a stack and smells it.

“You can count it if you like and check if it’s real,” said Todd.

“I believe you. It’s not like I haven’t done business with you before. Besides, my secretary does all that type of checking and counting for me,” said Henry.

  “You trust her?” Todd asked.

“Considering she knows what we do to ‘trash,’ I think she knows better than to fuck us over,” said Henry.

“I can give you more than that if you like,” said Todd.

“Normally, this would be enough. Ben came cheap, but people like him don’t grow on trees. Ben was a very rare breed. He didn’t do it for the money. He hated lowlifes as much as you did,” said Henry.

“I agree. I’m really going to miss him,” said Todd. Todd then pulls out a checkbook and writes a check to Henry. He then gives Henry the check. Henry can’t believe his eyes. Henry counted the zeroes twice to make sure his eyes weren’t fooling him. There were six zeroes after twenty-seven. Todd had written him a check for 27 million dollars. William walked over and looked at the check, and his eyes got as big as Henry’s.

“There’s 30 million dollars total now. I think you have plenty of money now to hire a hitman, wouldn’t you say?” Todd asked. “You know I don’t write bad checks.”

Henry smiles and looks over at William and back at Todd. “I think we may have the perfect ‘psycho’ for the job,” said Henry.

“Thank you so much,” said Todd smiling.

Todd unbuttoned his shirt and pulled out a folder with a lot of papers. He hands Henry the folder with the stack of papers. “Here is a start. There are six criminals in that paperwork I just gave you. I paid you equal to 5 million a hit. I expect excellent results for that type of money. I’ll send more money and more ‘hits’ in a few weeks after I do a little more research on some people I’m looking into at the moment,” said Todd.

Henry pulls a lit cigar out of his mouth. He glances through some of the pages from the folder. “It’s always a pleasure doing business with you, Todd,” said Henry smiling. Todd smiles back.

Ben is across from his mother on a phone in the prison “visiting area.”

“Ben, you need to take the insanity defense,” said Tina.

“No mom, I won’t. I’m really a hitman,” said Ben.

“I know that’s what you believe. A cop told me that you have a strong case for the insanity defense. All three psychologists that studied you said that you truly believe that you are a hitman,” said Tina.

“It’s the truth, I am,” said Ben.

“Stop this right now! You’re going to plead insanity,” said Tina.

“No, mom, I’m not,” said Ben with a mean tone in his voice.

Ben hung up the phone and follows a cop back to his prison cell. His mother sits lost in sorrow and frustration.

Ben is sitting in deep thought staring in space. It’s Ben in the present time of 2012. He is still wearing his orange prison clothes.

“Well, I hope you enjoyed my story. The parts you seen of me getting arrested and talking to my mother in prison was eight years ago. I told you the big parts of my life, because I have a date with good ole ‘Sparky’ in three days,” said Ben.

Mr. Krotz walks up to Ben’s prison cell. “I have a special present for you, Ben,” said Mr. Krotz.

“Look, if it’s that fucking drunk driver that killed my father, tell him to go fuck himself!” Ben shouted.

“Much better than that, Ben. Come on out and follow me,” said Mr. Krotz, who unlocks and opens Ben’s prison cell.

Ben follows Mr. Krotz down the prison hallway and to an elevator. Mr. Krotz hits the button “5” for the fifth floor. Everyone locked up on this fifth floor were the most dangerous criminals. The criminals on this floor were locked in twenty-three hours of the day. They weren’t locked in a prison cell with bars. Instead, they were in a room with a door. The doors have a small glass window. Unless someone is walking right next to the door, the prisoner can’t see anything out the small door window.

Under normal circumstances, Ben would have been on this floor. However, most of the cops liked Ben, because he killed many criminals. They never believed his “hitman” story. They just simply thought he had a few screws loose. They always got a laugh when Ben would refuse to tell them his mob boss’s headquarters. They never once considered Ben could be telling the truth. Even if they believed him, they would have never gotten Ben to give away any of the people he worked with. Ben is way too loyal to give out any of that type of information.

After getting off the elevator, Mr. Krotz walks Ben down to the seventh prison cell on the left. Ben looks inside the prison door window and sees a man probably in his early sixties sleeping. Mr. Krotz opens the prison cell. Ben walks in a confused state.

  “Who is this?” Ben asked.

Mr. Krotz looks at Ben, “Hold your hands up, so I can unlock the cuffs off your hands.” Ben does as instructed. “This man here sleeping is the man that raped your sister.”

“I never knew he was at this prison,” said Ben.

“I put in a transfer for him. I have a few friends at the prison that he was staying at. He thought he got moved here, because they were getting overly crowded at the prison he was at. I knew if you had any dying wishes, this would be it,” said Mr. Krotz.

Mr. Krotz hands Ben two metal bars, “I know you are about fair play.” Mr. Krotz laughed.

“You know me too well,” said Ben.

“You are free to do whatever you like to him.”

“You are an amazing friend,” said Ben.

As Mr. Krotz is leaving the prison cell, he looks back at Ben. “Have fun.” Mr. Krotz smiles and walks out the prison cell door making sure to close and lock the door behind him. Mr. Krotz stands by outside the prison cell door window wanting to see how Ben handles the situation.

Ben walks up to the rapist tapping him a little with one of the metal bars. The man awakens from his deep sleep and is somewhat frightened.

The man breathes a sigh of relief. “You scared me for a minute, man. What they got you in here for? I thought they were going to give me the room to myself,” said the rapist.

“I’m not here to hold your hands, and I’m surely not here to be your roommate,” said Ben.

“Well, why the fuck do they have you here in ‘this’ prison cell with me?” The rapist asked.

“You are the son of a bitch that killed my sister,” said Ben.

The rapist for the first time became alarmed and quickly got to a seated position.

“I raped a lot of women, which girl was it,” said the rapist. The rapist said it like it was no big deal as if someone just asked him what kind of cookie he stole when he was a kid.

Ben just stared at the rapist with deep anger and hate. The rapist finally spoke
up.

“I remember you now. I raped your sister when you were really young. You just stared at me like a scared homosexual,” said the rapist laughing. “How is she doing by the way?”

Ben envisioned himself knocking the rapist unconscious with the metal bar, but he wanted to defeat and kill the man the proper way. “If you beat me, I’ll tell you all about it,” said Ben.

The rapist laughed again. “Killing me isn’t going to bring your sister back.”

Ben swung the bar at the rapist’s head. It was a cheap shot. Ben didn’t use his full strength. He just simply wanted to send a message that he was tired of hearing the man speak ill will of him and his dead sister.

“Oh, I see how you want to play,” said the rapist, who finally got to his feet. Ben tossed the rapist a metal bar.

The rapist pretended to lunge in at Ben only to step back. Ben seemed unfazed by the rapists taunting and goofing around.

“I see you’ve grown some balls over the years,” said the rapist. The rapist finally came forward swinging wildly at Ben’s head missing terribly. Ben dropped his metal bar.

“Are you trying to make this too easy for me,” said the rapist smiling.

The rapist swung the metal bar at Ben’s chest, which connected as a solid hit. It stunned Ben a little, but Ben is able to regroup. Ben closed in on the rapist. The rapist cocked back with his right arm but was head butted by Ben before he could make a full swing. The rapist’s nose is bleeding badly. Ben’s nose is sore, but it isn’t too bad.

The rapist came forward pissed off. Ben quickly put his arms in a weird position and threw an awkward right handed punch at the rapist’s neck. Despite the weird movement, Ben used a lot of force that caused the rapist to step back a little in pain. Before the rapist could gain his composure, Ben came at the rapist with a nice, high leg kick in the midsection that caused the rapist to drop the metal bar in pain.

Ben walks over to the rapist and grabs his head and slams it against the wall. As the rapist is wobbly, Ben grabs the rapist’s shoulders and lowers him onto the ground. With the rapist now on his knees, Ben knees his face, causing the rapist to fall on his back on the hard cement floor dazed. Ben grabbed the rapist’s metal bar. He walks over to the rapist staring at the man’s hurt body. The rapist finally began making an attempt to get back to his feet. Once the rapist was on his knees, he looked at Ben trying to pull himself up by holding onto Ben’s orange prison shirt, only to have his face be hit hard with the metal bar, causing him to fall on his back again. The rapist knew his time had finally arrived. The rapist lied on his back in a great deal of pain.

“Please, I’m sorry for raping your sister. I’m a sick fuck, but I don’t deserve to die.”

There is only hatred in Ben’s face; there is no room for any sympathy. Ben never responded to the rapist’s pleas. Instead, he began to finish what he started by teeing off on the man’s head with the metal bar. The rage in Ben flowed as Ben continued to hit the rapist’s head with the metal bar. The man’s head began to open and blood came pouring out. Ben smacked the rapist’s head a few more times just to make a point.

Mr. Krotz opened the door finishing his last bite on a donut and sipping on a hot cup of coffee. “Fine job. Fine job, indeed,” said a smiling Mr. Krotz.

There are a group of people waiting for Ben’s execution. They are sitting in chairs waiting for the police to bring in Ben for execution. Tina is seated by herself wondering if the other people knew who she is. A girl came into the room and made her acquaintance.

“Hey, I’m Jennifer. I’m really sorry about your son. I dated him for a brief time.”

Tina now knew they would know who she was and felt really uncomfortable.

“I hope your son rots in hell!” A forty some year old red head screamed at Tina.

Tina turns around. “I’m really sorry.”

“Rot in hell, bitch! Along with your demented son!”

Tina turns her attention to Jennifer. “I don’t believe he ever told me about you, but then again, we haven’t been very close the past several years,” said Tina.

“I could have never imagined that he would do something like this,” said Jennifer.

“He was a troubled boy, but I never thought things would get like this,” said Tina.

Todd is a part of the audience, but he felt like now isn’t the time to make himself known to Ben’s mother. Todd is wearing his civilian clothes, as he wants to appear to be like the others. Although he didn’t have any ties to the prison Ben is at, he didn’t want the attention wearing a cop uniform would bring inside a prison. There were twelve other people (fifteen people altogether). Everyone besides Tina, Jennifer, and Todd had a victim tied to Ben.

The police finally bring Ben in and strap him into the electric chair. Ben’s head had been shaven before being brought to the electric chair. One of the police officers puts a sponge moistened with saline solution on top of his head and then covers it with an electrode.

The same cop that put the electrode on Ben’s head, grabs a microphone and puts it near Ben’s lips. “Any last words?” The cop asked.

Ben looked down and then up before looking straight ahead. All the victims could see his face plain as day. He couldn’t see them through the glass, though, because it’s a one-way mirror. He does, however, picture in his head all the sad faces that would be there. “I’ve come to realize that maybe it was wrong for me to judge everyone that had done heinous acts. Maybe some people really do and can change. Regardless, that’s not for me to decide. You could argue that I played the role of God. With all that being said, if I had to it over again, you bet your sweet ass that I would!”

The cop waits for a few seconds and realized Ben was done speaking. The cop places the microphone down and grabs a leather mask, which he places over Ben’s face. He then nods at another cop that is wearing a hood. The cop wearing a hood pulls the handle on the green diesel generator sending between 500 and 2000 volts to Ben’s body. The audience watches in excitement and sadness as Ben fries on the electric chair. A few minutes later a doctor comes in to check Ben’s heartbeat and then gives the nod that Ben is gone.

Tina walks out of the prison cell in tears. Jennifer is beside Tina and grabs her right shoulder. “I’m so very sorry,” said Jennifer while having tears coming down her cheeks.

Tina wiped away her tears and looked at Jennifer’s sad face. “I think God is punishing me for being a terrible mother.”

“Don’t say that. I’m sure you were a wonderful mother to Ben,” said Jennifer.

Tina grabbed a Kleenex out of her pockets as tears were coming out uncontrollably at a rapid pace. “Thank you for taking the time to know my boy.”

“I wish I could have gotten to know him before he became what he was,” said Jennifer. Jennifer didn’t want to use the term “serial killer” about Ben to his mother.

Tina put her hands over both of Jennifer’s shoulders. “I hope life brings you wonderful things.”

After Tina said those words to Jennifer, both walked in different directions to their car.

Todd waits patiently for Jennifer to leave before running to catch up to Tina.

“I’m so sorry for whatever harm Ben has caused you and your family,” said Tina weeping.

“Actually, I’m a good friend of Ben’s from the Army,” said Todd lying. “I’m a psychologist. If you ever need anything, call me.” Todd handed her a fake business card.

“Thank you for being such a good friend of Ben’s. I wish he had told me about you,” said Tina, who’s crying had slowed down.

“Make sure if you need anything, and I mean anything at all, call me,” said Todd smiling.

“Thank you so much,” said Tina.

Todd and Tina walked in separate directions, as their cars were parked far apart on different sides of the parking lot. Jeff gets into his car and makes a call to “Lydia” who is one of the secretaries at the mob headquarters.

“How can I help you?” Lydia asked.
>
  “It’s me, Todd.”

“Well, what do you know, our favorite customer,” joked Lydia.

“I was just wondering how that new guy is working out?” Todd asked.

“He’s doing wonderful. I think he’s our first gem since Ben. The last three as you know were worthless. We are dearly sorry that you didn’t get your money’s worth from the past hit men that we hired,” said Lydia.

“I’m just glad that you guys finally hired someone to clean our streets,” said Todd.

“He’s not as soft spoken as Ben and doesn’t have his sense of humor, but the man is vicious,” said Lydia.

  “Do tell,” said Todd.

“He cut a rapist’s dick off a couple of weeks ago and chopped it into little pieces. He then put in an ex boss’s of his, soup. To cut to the chase, his former boss ate the chopped dick in his soup. He so much wants to get paid from us to kill his former boss, but from what we’ve gathered, his boss seems to be in good standing,” said Lydia.

“I really like this guy!” Todd said excitedly. Since my money is finally going to good use, I’m going to see if I can find some serious dirt on this guy. What’s his former boss’s name?” Ben asked.

“Give me a minute,” said Lydia. Lydia looks at some of her paperwork. “His name is Keith Showard.”

Todd writes the name down on a piece of paper. “Sounds good. I’m going to see what I can find. Thanks again.”

  “My pleasure,” said Lydia.

Todd hangs up his cell phone and puts it in his pocket. He grabs his sunglasses and puts them on. Todd looks out his driver’s side window with a huge smile on his face.
