"Yes, our company is willing to purchase the shares you own at a premium of twenty percent."
Anthony said in as calm a tone as possible, "We value Tara Private Security Company to be at one billion USD. You all hold twenty-four percent of the shares in Tara Company, so our company is willing to buy your part of the shares for three hundred million USD."
"Your calculations are inaccurate."
Botu calmly said, "Tara has a very impressive reputation throughout Africa. It receives more than three hundred orders every year and its net profit is close to a hundred million USD. We think that Tara Private Security Company is worth at least two billion."
"Yeah, two billion at least, maybe even two and a half!" Colmore swiftly chimed in.
"That… We can discuss this." Anthony hesitated.
"There's nothing to discuss."
Colmore started to raise his voice. "Either you buy our shares at the valuation of two billion USD or you can scram back to Namibia for we don't welcome you here!"
Anthony and the rest instantly looked troubled.
"And the other two agree with this?"
Brando's face darkened as he looked at Botu and Papari.
They both nodded. Botu said matter-of-factly, "In fact, we can discuss this, but the valuation cannot be less than two billion."
"In that case, then there's nothing to talk about."
Sara's face turned icy as she stood up. "I hope that you'll remain this self-assured a few days later."
With that, she turned to leave the conference room.
Brando could only shake his head as he looked at everyone with a trace of pity. "Mr. Botu, I hope you'll reconsider. To get this sum of money by letting go of those insignificant shares — isn't that a wonderful thing for everyone?"
When Botu heard this, he took a puff of his cigar and his expression turned grave. "Brando, are you threatening us?"
"No, please believe me, it's just a piece of advice."
Brando shook his head and said soberly, "A piece of kind advice."
Chapter 181: Business Upgrade |
As they watched Brando's group leave the conference room, the eyes of Botu and Colmore turned cold.
"The sort of trash that used to bow and scrape at us is now bold enough to threaten us…"
Colmore's mouth cracked open in a humorless smile.
"After all, since they have a new master, naturally, they must show their loyalty to him. The old masters have lost their influence, of course."
Botu smoked his cigar and pondered aloud. "But now isn't the time to get hung up over this. We'd best begin preparing our defense against their counterattack."
"Why would we need to defend ourselves?"
At one side, Colmore snorted coldly. "How about we just kill them all tonight? We've already found out the hotel they're staying at. We'll just stir up an accidental fire, then we can flawlessly evade the public's scrutiny…"
"But will they really counterattack?"
Papari, who had remained silent, now spoke with an icy smile, "This is our territory. Whether in terms of underground forces or official power, they can't compete with us. So, how will they…"
"Boom!"
There was a sudden, loud noise beside Papari's ear. They only saw a flash of fire before losing consciousness in the next second…
A thunderous sound tore through the city center.
The sound was earth-shattering. The passersby all cried out in panic and the cars parked by the roadside also sounded their piercing alarms.
The pedestrians looked toward the source of the sound, only to see thick smoke billowing from the office building of Tara Private Security Company, located in the city center. The entire 25th floor was plunged into an ocean of flames…
The 25th floor was where the conference room was located.
At this time, Brando's group, who had just exited the elevator and had not even left the Tara office building, only felt the entire building quake. Then, everyone hurried out of the building and looked toward the roof.
The 25th floor, where they had just come from, had been completely reduced to ashes. Only an endless fire was spreading and black smoke blossomed into a plume of smoke that was witnessed by everyone in the city center.
"What just happened…"
Anthony was still a little dazed. "Did the explosion happen on the floor we were on?"
"I guess it must be so."
Brando inhaled sharply. Just then, he suddenly remembered asking Cheng Cao yesterday if he was going with them. Cheng Cao answered he had another job.
Now, he knew what Cheng Cao's job was…
Just as Brando and Sara were reeling from the shock, they saw Cheng Cao walk out of the building with an indifferent expression. Meanwhile, a car stopped in front of Cheng Cao, blocking everyone's view.
When the car had left, Cheng Cao had vanished.
"Let's head back first."
Brando got everyone's attention. They all got into the cars and swiftly left the place.
Half an hour later, everyone had returned to the hotel where they were staying. As soon as they entered the door, they saw Cheng Cao who was already quietly watching the TV from the sofa. The TV station was broadcasting a report on the explosion that had occurred in the Tara Company building.
"Mr. Anthony, Ms. Jennifer, please head up and rest first. We'll ask the company for further instructions," Brando said.
"Alright, then we'll rest for now."
Anthony shot a long look at Cheng Cao who was sitting on the sofa, then led everyone out of the room.
When there was no one else in the room, Brando frowned and asked, "Cheng Cao, if we do this, won't the authorities of the Rainbow Nation retaliate?"
"Retaliate?"
"Yes."
Brando explained, "If we resolved it privately, whether by murdering the other party or using other means, the authorities won't pay any attention. But if it's carried out in the public eye in this manner, they'll find it difficult to overlook."
"You don't have to worry about that."
Cheng Cao waved his hand. "Several consortia from North America had already visited Cape Town's City Hall. Not only that…"
Now, Cheng Cao pointed at the TV screen.
Brando looked at the TV, only to hear the current news anchor saying, "The cause of the incident has been ascertained. The explosion at Tara Company occurred due to a fire that was caused by a natural gas pipeline leak. A total of 12 people were killed and more than 30 were injured…"
"That was fast…"
When he saw this, Brando could not help but take in a deep breath.
Although he had ended the lives of more than a dozen people, when he saw how swiftly the TV station had concluded the matter, he was astounded by how cheap life was.
The influence of the Blackwatch Corporation had far exceeded his framework of understanding.
"I had wanted to get everyone in one strike, but I didn't expect that one person wouldn't show up at this meeting."
Cheng Cao took out a sheet of information. "There's a member of the National Congress who owns 6 percent of Tara Company's shares — I'll leave him to you. Whether by assassination or negotiation, just make him spit out his shares."
"We got it."
Brando nodded and gently took the sheet of information. He noticed that the information was extremely complete. From the target's childhood to his present life, the man's life experience and likings were all clearly stated.
The extent of this intelligence gathering once again floored Brando. One could say that even without him and Sara, Blackwatch could still easily eliminate these stumbling blocks. His and Sara's roles had been reduced to the lowest level. They were practically just backup at this point.
The swift and resolute way of doing things, the power to do whatever they wanted, and the mind-boggling intelligence system…
What sort of company was this?
A deep chill pervaded Brando's heart. At the same time, he silently reso
lved that, if possible, he would never face off against this company.
…
The next day, Cheng Cao returned to Namibia by plane and Brando also located the last shareholder who still owned shares in Tara.
Nonetheless, this time, things went much more smoothly. After learning about the fate that had befallen the rest, the last shareholder happily handed over his shares.
At this point, Tara Private Security Company was an enterprise owned wholly by Chen Chen.
Chen Chen had to take over Tara Private Security Company because this company had branches and offices in more than a dozen African countries. By acquiring Tara, Chen Chen had managed to save himself the time and effort needed to establish a foundation. Instead, he could extend his influence straight into the hearts of various African countries.
Presently, Tara Company's most famous customers were Angola, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone.
After all this was achieved, the first thing Chen Chen did was to reorganize the company and renamed Tara Private Security Company as "Tara Strategic Resource Ltd.". He vertically developed the company's business from mercenary and security services to the three major services.
These were: mining, air transportation, and security.
To this end, Chen Chen channeled another three billion USD into Tara Company and placed an order in each of the four continents, Mainland China, North America, North Sea, and Europe, to purchase twenty-two transport aircraft and fifty-four transport helicopters. These would be used to run the transportation business in Africa.
The reason for this was to pave the way for the establishment of an industrial system in Africa. With an industrial system, whether in terms of the GS Combat Suits or producing the T-800, there would be more room for growth.
Chapter 182: A Charitable Arms Dealer |
Ever since Blacklight Biotechnology came to Namibia, Walvis Bay had been in a constant bustle without stopping to rest for a single day.
On this morning, before the early daylight had penetrated the vast mist, a ship's horn could be heard blaring.
Most of the residents of Walvis Bay turned over in their sleep and continued their slumber.
They were used to this by now.
At this time, a row of heavy trucks was parked quietly in front of the dock. These trucks were specialized. They could bear extremely high loads and transport dozens of tons of goods at a time.
Many of Namibia's custom officers could not hide their envy as they looked at these massive steel beasts.
Just one of these heavy trucks would be enough to feed an entire village. This company had hundreds of these trucks.
In the office of the Walvis Bay Customs Bureau, the bureau chief, who was supposedly the highest-ranking person there, now stood up and poured a cup of tea each for the people sitting across the desk.
Sitting across the desk were two old men and one young man. One of the old men had white hair and a white beard. He was dressed in a military uniform and had a solemn presence. The other old man wore a calm expression that made him seem level headed.
The young person was a Chinese man with an ordinary face.
"By the sound of it, the freighter should be arriving soon."
Chen Chen picked up the teacup, nodded to the bureau chief in thanks, then said to the two old men beside him, "Will you two wait here or will you go with me?"
"Let's go together."
The old man in the military uniform stood up immediately and said eagerly, "I really want to see them as soon as possible."
"It just so happens that I feel the same."
The other white-haired old man stood up too.
The one in military uniform was Namibia's Minister of Defense, Quintina, while the other man was the Minister of Investment and Energy, Zurama. They were like Chen Chen's friends from a different age group.
Since Chen Chen built the Eco Science City, the two had colluded closely with him. Chen Chen had accomplished many of his plans and goals thanks to them and they had also made enough money off Chen Chen that would last them until their next life.
Presently, due to their frequent visits to the Eco Science City for recuperation, the two ministers both seemed energized. Zurama stood up briskly and said to the bureau chief of the Walvis Bay Customs Bureau, "Chief Ram, are you coming with us?"
"I'd be honored."
The customs chief nodded quickly. Following that, the four of them went to the dock together.
On the dock, a gigantic freighter was slowly approaching.
From this distance, they could see the dozens of red and yellow containers on the freighter. It appeared as if there were not many containers, but those with an experienced eye could tell at once that the waterline of this freighter was very deep.
The group moved to the dock. Minister Zurama put on his glasses and squinted, then grinned. "It looks like you've brought plenty of good stuff this time."
"All thanks to both of your assistance in the Parliament."
Chen Chen smiled softly as he watched the huge freighter slowly stopping by the dock. After that, two large cranes turned around and began to unload the cargo onto the dock.
The customs department opened these containers one by one for inspection, in accordance with standard regulations.
However, as the containers were opened one after another, the workers who opened them wore a look of surprise.
These containers contained armored vehicles painted in dark camouflage.
These tanks were about 7 meters long and more than 3 meters wide. They were like giant metal beasts with sharp fangs. The 30mm machine-gun cannon and 12.5mm machine gun featured were as terrifying as vicious claws.
Boomerang K-17 Infantry Fighting Vehicle!
As he stared at the steel behemoth in the container, the chief of the Customs Bureau inhaled sharply and felt his legs tremble. He squeezed out a timid smile at the two ministers. "Is this the special cargo the both of you were talking about?"
"Be rest assured, these imported vehicles are approved by the Parliament."
Minister Quintina smiled. As he spoke, he took out a document from his pocket and handed it to the chief of the Customs Bureau. It was the military's procurement document.
"Don't worry, these vehicles are only here for a while. Eventually, they'll be used as support abroad."
Chen Chen patted the bureau chief's shoulder reassuringly. "They are all civilian vehicles to be used for disaster relief and international humanitarian aid missions, and have nothing to do with military operations."
"I see…"
Chief Ram wiped away the cool sweat on his forehead and nodded rapidly.
After the yellow containers were inventoried, the batch of red containers was also opened up. Suddenly, a huge steel beast, as large as a bus, appeared before everyone's eyes.
Although the propeller and weapon accessories had been removed from this behemoth, its length still reached a terrifying seventeen meters. Its width was two meters and its height was close to five meters!
Anyone who saw this would exclaim in disbelief.
It was the Mi-28N Attack Helicopter, the latest generation of gunship helicopters in the North Sea Continent. It was used to attack enemy armored forces and any active forces. The price was about 12 million USD each.
As a military enthusiast, Chief Ram's heart seized when he saw the thing inside the container. All of the data on this steel behemoth instinctively appeared in his mind and his initially steady heart started to throb irregularly again.
"Don't be anxious, Chief Ram."
Chen Chen saw that the man's eyes had turned blank and immediately explained, "As I said earlier, as an African philanthropist, surely it's reasonable for me to use a helicopter to provide international humanitarian assistance, right?"
Following that, everyone waited on the dock until all the cargo was unloaded. After they counted, there were thirty-three Boomerang K-17 Infantry Fighting Vehicles and seven Mi-28N Attack Helicopters.
After repacking
all the tanks and attack helicopters and loading them onto the heavy trucks, Chen Chen said to the eager old man, "Minister Quintina, the goods on ten of these vehicles here are yours now."
"I thank you for your generosity on behalf of the Namibian military, but please remember your promise. If you don't want to become an enemy of Namibia, you'd better never use these machines on our territory."
Minister Quintina gave Chen Chen a long deep look and reminded him.
"Be rest assured, I'm just a businessman. I'm only interested in money." Chen Chen nodded, then turned and got into his car.
The Jeep Wrangler slowly drove into the distance, with thirty heavy-duty Steyr trucks trailing behind like one giant snake.
As he watched them leave, Minister Quintina dropped his smile. He looked at the ten containers left for Namibia with a trace of sorrow. "I can't believe that the most cutting-edge tanks and aircraft, which our army has always dreamed of, are actually a gift from a private company..."
"There's no need for that, Minister Quintina."
Zurama shook his head. "It's not that we don't love this country, but it's far too young. We have to watch it grow up bit by bit. I believe that day isn't too far away..."
"I hope so."
The old man in the military suit nodded and sighed silently as he looked up at the sky.
Chapter 183: Tara Strategic Resource Ltd. |
Chen Chen had delineated an area in the south of the Eco Science City. A construction team arrived and started to build new buildings.
Nonetheless, unlike the residential and commercial areas, this was planned as an industrial zone.
The industrial zone was about 10 kilometers away from the city and it was next to the nuclear power plant under construction. Several electronics factories and mechanical factories had been built here.
At the same time, Blacklight Biotechnology had signed a purchase order with Air Namibia. Blacklight Biotechnology would rebuild Walvis Bay International Airport, which included extending and widening the original runway and adding three more brand-new runways that would be over 1,800 meters in length and over 40 meters in width.
