I Have A Super USB Drive
Page 107
Chen Chen froze as what Little X said made sense. He had made multiple rounds of retrieving the NZT-48 drug from Limitless and STEM chips from Upgrade, and Chen Chen had acquired more than a hundred STEM chips. If each movie only corresponded to one parallel universe, where did all these STEM chips come from?
As quantum mechanics would dictate, there existed an infinite amount of parallel universes in this world.
If that was true, would that imply that the parallel universe the USB drive connected to was different each time?
If Chen Chen had crossed to the other side, it meant that once the portal was sealed, Chen Chen would be left stranded on another world, never to return...
"You're right. We absolutely cannot shut the portal down."
Chen Chen finally nodded and said, "If that's the case, let's just use the 50-gram and 100-gram weights. If there's other information to be communicated, I'll send a Black Knight over even if it means consuming more energies."
After a prolonged discussion between a human and an AI, a consensus was finally reached. One of the Black Knights then returned to the Spire Experimental Base to retrieve Chen Chen's PK armor while Chen Chen proceeded to download The Predator (2018) as he prepared to equip the other two Black Knights with PK armors too.
After all, it would be unwise for Chen Chen to neglect his safety just to conserve a little bit more energy. What more, one could never have enough of these tactical armors. It was a matter of time that they would come in handy.
An hour later, the Black Knight returned with his PK armor whereas Chen Chen had also acquired two sets of PK armors after downloading the movie.
As Chen Chen strapped one of the armor gear onto his arms, the sound of the gear interlocking was heard as the armguard shrunk to fit his arms nicely.
"Voom!"
An increasingly intense buzzing sound was heard as blue light flashed across the armor, spreading upward toward Chen Chen's shoulders.
At the same time, Chen Chen frowned as he felt a burning pain radiating on his skin. Fortunately, the pain was still tolerable.
As the blue light gradually grew upward, the black armor soon covered Chen Chen's body with the last being his face.
Then, as the armor was deployed over his face, Chen Chen's vision first became pitch black before it was replaced by an infrared vision that was identical to what the Predators were seeing.
The other two Black Knights that were assigned to the mission had also put on their PK armors, bearing the same mecha resemblance as Chen Chen.
"Even if this armor is constructed by nanostructures, there's probably an option to remove the helmet."
The moment Chen Chen had that thought, the armor that was previously covering his head began splitting and revealing Chen Chen's face.
"It's true indeed."
Now that his vision had resumed to normal, Chen Chen walked to his computer and played the Elysium movie.
However, he did not immediately jump into a portal. Instead, Chen Chen dragged the movie's progress bar forward.
To land in a safe spot, Chen Chen had to station the portal in the Elysium instead of on Earth.
Whereas according to the USB drive's characteristic, Chen Chen had to pause the movie exactly at a scene where the Elysium was featured to access the location.
It was similar to how Chen Chen must pause the frame where a piece of movie equipment was featured if he wished to acquire them.
When Chen Chen previously entered Resident Evil's dimension, he immediately opened up the portal without pausing anywhere. Due to a lack of choice, the portal seemed to pick a random location to spawn at and it ended up in the train station.
After giving it some thought, Chen Chen then paused the movie three minutes and forty seconds in. The scene was filmed in a luxurious mansion where a blonde dressed in a red bikini was shown.
"Ok."
Chen Chen flashed an OK gesture toward his back and clicked on the screen!
Then, Chen Chen saw a wave of darkness extended outward as it took after the shape of a dark whirlpool that was rotating in a clockwise direction.
A black tunnel had appeared.
Looking at the black hole, a realization hit Chen Chen. The tunnel was still a pitch-black in his vision.
It implied that despite his chromatography vision, the tunnel was still the same color.
While Chen Chen was immersed in his own thoughts, the two Black Knights armed in PK armors had vanished into the tunnel without any hesitation.
This time, Chen Chen needed to only wait for a minute.
After a minute had passed, a metal object suddenly emerged from the other side, creating a clunking sound as it landed on the floor.
It was the 50-gram weight that the Black Knights had brought with them.
Chen Chen then activated his face shield while three pairs of laser sights protruded from his back, putting him in an offensive preparation before leaping into the other side.
Chen Chen immediately felt his entire vision blanked out as he lost his sense of gravity. It felt like he was falling into an endless abyss.
However, just like his previous trip into Resident Evil's dimension, the sensation was brief. Before Chen Chen could fully react, he saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
He landed in a dusty room that had French windows built all around its perimeter.
Meanwhile, two Black Knights were committed to guarding the entrance of the portal.
Chen Chen took a glance across his surroundings and observed that the room took after a minimalist design, which matched the interiors of the Elysium residence in the movie. Outside the room's window, Chen Chen saw a hill that was a few hundred meters tall and had several mansions built on its valley.
In his room was also a Medpod 3000 platform that was covered in dust.
There could be no doubt. This was definitely the Elysium's universe.
Chen Chen compared whatever he had seen to the movie's imageries and concluded that they were almost identical, be it the scenery outside the window or the interior of the room. The USB drive had successfully transported him to the Elysium's dimension and had even placed him at the exact location Chen Chen paused the movie in.
However, the timeline seemed to not be in sync with the movie…
Chen Chen kneeled and gently touched the floor's surface.
The floor was covered and coated in dust that was half an inch thick. It indicated that no one had been here for at least a few years now.
Em…
Chen Chen paused for a moment before he attempted to switch on the Medpod 3000.
Unfortunately, no matter which button Chen Chen had pressed, the Medpod 3000 did not respond in any way.
Had the power supply been cut off?
Chen Chen pondered silently as he walked out of the room. He was greeted by an enormous and luxurious living room. Although the living room's interiors were simple, it was evident that the design came from a highly technological society.
Chen Chen was standing in a bungalow mansion.
The only element that ruined the beauty was the thick layer of dust that had been coating every object of the mansion. It seemed like the mansion was abandoned a long time ago.
"It's impossible that anyone would abandon their houses in the Elysium, unless this isn't the right location…"
Chen Chen murmured. He walked carefully to the front door and gently opened the door.
Chen Chen now had a clear sight of the outside world.
The sun was still emitting its warm sunlight as usual. Far away, Chen Chen could see structures of gigantic pillars were erected as it extended all the way into the sky. Unlike Earth, the horizon was not the flat line that one typically observed on Earth. Instead, it extended upward.
That was to say that Chen Chen was now in an enormous ring structure.
Other than that, Chen Chen could also observe a blue planet suspended in the sky. It was none other than planet Earth itself.
All these observ
ations could only point toward the fact that Chen Chen was indeed on the Elysium.
However, unlike the movie, the Elysium that Chen Chen was in looked dilapidated. Tall weeds grew everywhere while many mansions seemed to have fallen apart, leaving a wasteland in its place.
Could that mean that the Elysium had been abandoned?
Chen Chen activated his armor and began searching for any signs of lifeforms.
However, no matter where Chen Chen looked, the armor's interface merely had "No Lifeforms Detected" written across its screen.
Suddenly, Chen Chen was struck by a horrifying thought. If what he thought was true…
Could it be a coincidence? Or was it fated?
Chen Chen took a deep breath and ordered the Black Knights to stay hidden and guard the portal entrance. He then turned to walk toward an enormous tower building.
That building was the Armadyne's headquarter, which was also the central governance center of the Elysium.
Chapter 222: Intrusion |
As Chen Chen passed through several mansions, he would occasionally drop by for a quick inspection. Unfortunately, there were still no lifeforms to be found except for a few robot butlers scattered around.
Just like the houses on the ship, the robot butlers had been unpowered for a long time while vines grew all over their bodies.
It seemed like more than a century had passed. Even the robot's bodies were beginning to rust.
"Looks like something happened here in an abrupt manner."
Chen Chen made this conclusion after observing many past traces of a normal life. For instance, most mansion's doors were still left open, which implied that its owners were living a normal life before having to abandon this place.
On the other hand, the robot butlers were also seen to be mostly suspended in a posture that resembled their former duties. Some were carrying cups of coffee whereas others were attending to an opened pot on the stove.
This implied that the residents of the Elysium had probably rushed to leave this ship. So urgent was the emergency that most of them could not bring their robot butlers with them…
Yet, something was still at odds with Chen Chen's conclusion.
Even if a catastrophe had taken place on the Elysium, perhaps leakages of radioactive materials, poison gases, and even viruses - why was nobody sent from Earth to clean up this place after such a long time?
Could it be that an entire man-made celestial object was abandoned just like that?
Chen Chen once again set his sight onto Earth as he visibly became more perplexed.
There could only be one reason if no one from Earth had come onboard the Elysium when it was completely unguarded and that was if Earth itself was also in destruction…
"Does that mean that the root of the entire problem originates from Earth?"
Chen Chen had cracked his head trying to unravel this mystery but failed to arrive at a satisfactory answer. He decided to continue his journey toward the tall tower building.
Strictly speaking, the Elysium was not a huge place.
After all, it was a ring-like structure that had a diameter of sixty kilometers. At most, it could only fit the population of a city. It took only an hour's walk before Chen Chen arrived at the base of the tower building.
As usual, vines grew rampantly near the entrance as it gradually spread into the main hall.
The entrance door of the building opened as two security robots were seen lying near two sides of the door. As veins wrapped around its bodies, the robots were also showing signs of decay.
"Did this government-owned tower suffer the same fate?"
Chen Chen was feeling more tense now. If even the security robots were not evacuated, the situation must have been dire.
"Kap, kap, kap…"
The six laser sights on Chen Chen's armor were activated as he walked cautiously into the building.
Although there was probably little threat in the building now that so much time had passed, Chen Chen thought it was better to be safe than sorry.
As the power supply had long been cut off, it soon turned dark when Chen Chen walked deeper into the building. Fortunately, Chen Chen's vision was unaffected even without a light source as the PK Armor came equipped with an infrared thermal vision.
As Chen Chen walked deeper into the building, he began to come across an increasing number of security robots. They were armed with Cousar Crowe rifles that could penetrate metal surfaces that were a few centimeters thick. These were incredibly destructive weapons.
Fortunately, these armed robots had long exhausted their powers and were laying dormant on the floor.
Chen Chen had yet to come across any human beings.
Not even a single corpse.
It could not be that these bodies had rotted completely as for as long as they were not buried, there would surely be traces to be found, such as leftover skulls or some dried out corpses.
Yet, Chen Chen had seen nothing close to that.
The government tower was different from the mansions on the Elysium. It had a structure that bore a closer resemblance to that of a spaceship. Most of the building's walkways had airtight doors separating them into sections. As Chen Chen ventured further, he observed that most of these airtight doors were initially shut.
Due to the airtight doors' ability to seal the rooms better, Chen Chen noticed far lesser signs of decays in the inner rooms. He had even seen a coffee mug resting on a table in one of the leisure rooms.
Of course, there were no more liquids left in the coffee mug. What was left were only the black sediments that solidified in the mug.
"Everyone has left at the same time. There were also no signs of panic."
The more Chen Chen looked around the room, the stronger Chen Chen's intuition became. His intuition told him that the people on the Elysium did not leave due to a disaster at all. Rather, they had all left quietly.
It did not matter whether they were drinking coffee, swimming or in the middle of other routine tasks. It was as if suddenly, everyone received a message at the same time and they all stopped their tasks and left without saying a word.
How was that possible…
Chen Chen felt uneasy and continued exploring. At last, he arrived at the entrance of the Elysium's control center on the third floor.
This was the same room where the movie's protagonist had overridden Elysium's system.
The room was completely sealed off.
Luckily, this did not bother Chen Chen at all as he aimed a cannon on his right shoulder at the door. A loud blast was heard as a blue orb was momentarily seen!
"Boom!"
A large hole that was two meters in diameters instantly appeared on the steel door while molten steel could be seen around the circumference of the hole.
Such was the destructive ability of a plasma cannon.
Chen Chen waited for the molten steel to cool down before entering. To his surprise, the lights of the control room switched on on their own.
The once pitch-black room was suddenly illuminated by the increasing intensity of lights.
"Warning! An intruder has entered the premise! Initiating checking of defensive mechanisms."
A female robotic voice was heard and was accompanied by a deafening sound of alarms throughout the entire building. "Warning, checking of defensive mechanism incomplete! Checking of defensive mechanism is incomplete!"
"Is this building tapping into its reserve power supply, similar to the Hive in Resident Evil?"
Chen Chen came to the operation interface and saw pieces of transparent boards that displayed his face and the words "Illegal Intruder" beside it.
He wondered if the system possessed the same intelligence as the Red Queen.
"Can you hear me talk?" Chen Chen raised his head and asked.
"Warning, warning! An intruder has been detected. Please initiate defensive mechanism immediately!"
The voice continued blasting its warnings while completely ignoring Chen C
hen's question.
"It only screams when met with problems. It definitely doesn't have higher intelligence than the Red Queen."
Chen Chen complained. After all, aside from the machines guarding outside, the movie did not feature any other signs of AI. Even then, this system was a pleasant surprise to Chen Chen.
After all, the existence of this intelligence system suggested that there was still a power system available. This meant that the system could easily be hacked by Little X.
Furthermore, if Little X could not breach into the system, Chen Chen could use the same method the movie's protagonist, Max, used to override the system from the control center.
According to the movie's plot, after overriding the system, one could easily allow anyone to become a citizen of Elysium. Indeed, the movie was concluded when the protagonist had given everyone on Earth citizenship in the Elysium.
Then, Chen Chen turned around and exited the main control center. As he made his way to the exit, the airtight doors would close and lock themselves behind him. Eventually, the entire tower building was completely locked and sealed.
Chapter 223: Where Did Everyone Go? |
Several hours later, Chen Chen returned to the tower once again, this time carrying a hard drive and a wire in his possession.
The hard drive contained a clone of Little X, X-112. On the other hand, the wire was the same wire that the movie's protagonist used to connect his brain to the main control center. The wire was remodified so that Chen Chen could connect the hard drive to the control center's system.
This time, it was no longer a smooth-sailing journey.
When Chen Chen returned to the Elysium's government tower, he saw that the entire building had already been sealed from the outside.
Upon determining Chen Chen as a threat, the internal system had placed the entire tower in lockdown mode.
However, this did not deter Chen Chen at all. As he aimed his cannon onto the gate, the blue orb once again melted the front door, forming a large hole in the center.
