To deal with this, Chen Chen had the B.S.S. force expanded twice and enlisted hundreds of foreign mercenaries. Despite the expert mercenary company, the elite spies dispatched by each major force were no pushovers either. After several exchanges, the B.S.S. force endured significant losses as well.

What was worth noting was that mobilizing the Black Knights would be as good as setting himself up.

It was a given that the Black Knights could promptly and efficiently squash a majority of the spies lying in Eco Science City, the odds were in their favor in the event of a clash as well. However, if Chen Chen were to commit to such a move, would it not be the equivalent of announcing to the Federation that he had a battalion capable of vanquishing the world?

Once information regarding the Black Knights got out, the incoming public scrutiny alone could squash Blacklight Biotechnology, not to mention the sanctions to be imposed by the Earth Federation.

In that sense, the Black Knights could only serve as an emergency measure. It may very well work wonders in a crucial moment, but playing the card right away was a suicidal venture.

  …

Three days later, Chen Chen went to the research workshop led by Mark Dawson again while Mark presented the newly modified drone before Chen Chen. They conducted a simulated flight test in the wind tunnel.

The results proved to be rather delightful.

The new addition for the drone was a small electromagnetic gun which was the same model as the electromagnetic pistol to be fitted into the Black Knights arsenal. It used a 4x15 millimeter hollow-point bullet and due to weight concerns, it was only loaded with thirty rounds, its effective range was a hundred meter.

Needless to be said, the reason Chen Chen had it mounted with a weapon was to use the drone to carry out assassination tasks in certain special situations. It was not going to be used in direct confrontational missions such as militant suppression as Chen Chen did not intend to expose this assassination agent just yet.

Additionally, the removal of the outer shell armor effectively decreased the total weight of the drone to just eight kilograms. Although the weight reduction did not improve its speed substantially, its battery life was extended by another four hours.

Finally, with the cloaking device installed, the drone was transformed into an ever-present ghost. Its superior elusiveness should be a cause for concern for even the most elite of spies.

  "Excellent."

Chen Chen nodded in approval upon noting the drone's outstanding performance in the wind tunnel and commended, "As expected of the most elite team in the world. Professor Mark, you and your team have done exemplary work worthy of your reputation."

"We don't deserve such high praises, Mr. Chen."

Mr. Mark laughed heartily. "The only reason we could accomplish all this is because of the generous budget you've allocated us. There's also the top-notch equipment supplied to us, otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to create these drone prototypes in such a timely manner."

"So, factoring the battery, lens, and all the accompanying costs, approximately how much U.S. dollars will it cost to manufacture each drone?"

Chen Chen had finally arrived at the most crucial question.

"Excluding research costs, each one of these drones should cost somewhere around three million U.S. dollars."

Mark pondered for a moment before providing a sure answer. "If an assembly line is developed for mass production, we can cut the total cost by about 30%."

  "Not bad at all."

Chen Chen nodded. Despite the noteworthy price tag attached, it was something that Chen Chen had a good use for. At the very least, it was far better than directly instantiating a UAV spy drone using the USB drive.

Each UAV spy drone weighed slightly above ten kilograms, which meant the nuclear power plant could only barely generate enough power to instantiate a hundred such drones each month. Unless Chen Chen had lost his mind, he would not dedicate his efforts to extracting such a gadget.

"Mr. Chen, now that all the statistical tests conducted have returned a passing score, isn't it high time to name the drone?"

Mark raised the question, the excitement showing in his eyes.

Chen Chen glanced at Mark upon noting this. "Sure, your team shall have the privilege to name the aircraft."

  "Greatly appreciated, Mr. Chen."

Mark was overjoyed upon hearing this. "Actually, I've already come up with a name, how does Mark-1 model sound? Simplified as the M-1 spy drone."

  "M-1?"

Chen Chen nodded somewhat dryly. "In that case, the bonus for your team will be transferred to each member's account very soon. I'll also be promoting your position in God's Forbidden Zone. As for the blueprint for the drone, you guys can just hand it over to the department in charge of production, someone else will take care of the production."

  "Understood."

Mark nodded. "I assume our next step is to improve the drone based on the Mark-1 drone model?"

"Yes. For example, you may design a smaller variant of the spy drone with emphasis on speed and overall flight duration."

Chen Chen answered, "Alternatively, design a large variant combat drone with a designated platform for mounting weapons. I'll have good uses for different drones suited for different purposes."

Mark was caught by surprise. He seemed to faintly understand where Chen Chen was going with this but also appeared slightly troubled. "It won't be a problem to continue research and development, the problem lies in the facilities. You see, to accommodate your specifications, we may need a larger wind tunnel."

  "Wind tunnel?"

Chen Chen turned around to face the small wind tunnel behind him, he immediately understood Mark's implications.

This facility known as a wind tunnel was certainly vital to the research and development of aircraft, this rule was no exception to the most basic small drone models.

The so-called wind tunnel was a large-scale test facility that artificially generates airflow to simulate the flow of air around an aircraft or entity.

The complexity and cost involved in constructing such structures were greater than that of constructing tunnel bores. This was justified as the features of a wind tunnel were essential to the manufacturing process of an aircraft.

Now that the subject of a wind tunnel was brought up, an idea suddenly occurred to Chen Chen.

After all, Chen Chen has had his eyes on the "Bugatti-Folge Spaceship" from the Elysium universe for some time now.

Under certain circumstances, a regular spaceship the size of a common vehicle could transport Chen Chen across the Pacific overnight, from one end of the earth to the other.

However, according to the statistics Chen Chen collected, the "Bugatti" which was arguably one of the smallest aircraft available weighed 2.4 tons. Chen Chen would have to save up two months' worth of power for it.

Considering that these aircraft were only seldomly used, Chen Chen concluded that his best bet was to construct aircraft by himself.

The construction of a wind tunnel was inevitable if he planned to build his aircraft by himself.

With this, Chen Chen made up his mind. He raised his head and turned to Mark. "In that case, Mark, are you confident that you can man another task while handling the development of the drones at the same time?"

  "I'm all ears."

Mark became intrigued when he saw Chen Chen switching to a serious tone. "If it's not too daunting, I believe I can give it a shot."

Chen Chen explained, "If I gave you the sample of an aircraft similar to the drone that can carry passengers, are you confident that you can replicate a prototype of it as well?"

  "This…"

Mark became silent for a brief moment before continuing with a hint of hesitation. "Although the core principle of a manned aircraft and a drone is very similar, the complexity of the process is day and night. Besides, the small-scale wind tunnel used for the drone isn't applicable for the development of a manned-aircraft…"

"You won't have to worry about the wind tunnel."

Chen Chen made a waving gesture. "I plan to invest 3 billion U.S. dollars to set up a large-scale specialized wind tunnel here."

Mark was immediately fascinated by the suggestion. "In that case, I'm willing to give it a shot."

Chapter 269: Holographic Projection Technology |

Over time, the unique presence in the region of Namibia, Eco Science City, was constantly seeing improvements.

Some time ago, this place was just a wasteland with hardly any villages in a hundred miles vicinity. It was a completely unexplored and undeveloped landscape.

The arrival of one man would completely transform the landscape.

At the end of 2021, the man came from the distant Mainland China and signed an agreement with the Namibian Government.

At the beginning of 2022, a biotechnology research center was constructed. Meanwhile, the groundwork for a gigantic nuclear power plant was being laid down as well.

Since then, development took off exponentially.

March of 2023, the completion of Eco Science City. May of 2023, the completion of the nuclear power station. All of the wealthiest members of the world began to congregate in this place as the Eco Science City began to come to life and overflow with vitality.

Unfortunately, the Blacklight virus outbreak also happened during the same year. The entire African Continent suffered major losses and the development of Eco Science City was hindered by the outbreak as well.

However, after weathering the pandemic chapter, the privately-owned city exploded with vibrant productivity again. Every day, hundreds of wealthy people from all across the world arrived at the Walvis Bay Airport in Namibia and poured into Eco Science City.

The current resident population of Eco Science City hovered around 50,000, with the number constantly on the rise over time.

To accommodate this, the city began to establish and hasten the development of new sections.

Some time ago, to provide for his Tara Strategic Resource business, Chen Chen had renovated the Walvis Bay Airport out of his pocket. The international airport's airport code was upgraded from a 3C to 4E.

Airport code generally referred to the completion of its facilities such as the runway, landing strip, taxiway, parking apron, and such.

Airport codes were abbreviated as a two-part code, usually categorized into six classifications which were below 3C, 3C, 4C, 4D, 4E, and 4F.

The first part was a numerical value which represented the length of the runway, "4" represented a runway stretching over 1,800 meters in length. The latter was an alphabetical value indicating the wingspan and wheelbase of the aircraft allowed to take off and land in the airport. This value was sorted in ascending order from A to F.

A 4E-class flight zone could accommodate four-engine long-range wide-body airliners and large twin-engine airliners such as the Boeing 747, Airbus A340, Boeing 787, Boeing 777, and the Airbus A330.

Upgrading the Walvis Bay Airport from 3C to 4E was pretty much the equivalent of leaping a measly handgun to a shotgun. In one tremendous leap, it became one of the largest airports in Africa. Not only did it become a renowned transfer point in Africa, the cargo and passenger flow resulting from it had the Minister of Finance grinning from ear to ear.

As the primary investor, Blacklight Biotechnology was granted plenty of privileges such as a designated runway and inspection-free cargo permit.

Due to the pandemic, the subsidiary company of Blacklight Biotechnology – Tara Strategic Resource made a great fortune. Countless countries had to bite the bullet and trade their resource mining rights in exchange for funds to sustain them. These resources include gold, diamonds, rare earth minerals, and so on.

For many of these countries, it was a daunting task in the first place whether they wanted to mine or deliver these minerals. After the pandemic, this task was made even more challenging.

However, the subsidiary company, Tara, owned various models of transport aircraft. They also had modern equipment and sufficient capital to boot. Mining the resources did not pose a problem for them.

And so, vast amounts of minerals were shipped every day with the carriers of Tara Strategic Resource to Walvis Bay International Airport. Among these minerals, gold, silver, and diamonds were objects of least interest to Chen Chen, which he promptly auctioned off in the international market. The strategic resources and minerals, on the other hand, were delivered to the industrial park of the Eco Science City and used internally.

The industrial park continued to grow larger and the number of factories increased as well.

  Soon, night had fallen again…

Eco Science City at night was just like any other international cities. The streets were bright golden with rows of street-lights and brightly lit storefronts. Off in the distance, the districts and sanatoriums outshone the stars in the night sky with their radiance.

Originally, due to Namibia's poor industrial state, the country had the internationally-recognized most beautiful night sky. With the establishment of Eco Science City, the night sky ended being polluted by the city's prosperity and rapid industrialization.

This led to a lot of criticism from environmentalists across the world. They rebuked Blacklight Biotechnology for polluting the pure land of Namibia.

Chen Chen could not help but find humor in it.

For the people living in modern cities, a clear night sky illuminated with stars was a subject of marvel for them. However, they never even considered that below such perfect starry skies were a collection of underdeveloped villages with their villagers drifting the lines between life and death every day.

If the African villagers had a say in the matter, would they rather have their daily needs fulfilled or the underdeveloped villages with next to zero medical accommodations?

  The answer was clear.

At this moment, Chen Chen sat in front of a set of french windows in a newly-constructed building.

This was the new Blacklight Biotechnology office building. With a total investment of 500 million U.S. dollars, it was a 62-stories building standing 230 meters tall with a space of 150,000 square meters.

In the early stages of its construction, Chen Chen had already planned to use this office building as the African headquarter of Blacklight Biotechnology. It also doubled as a landmark building in Eco Science City.

From a distance, the building was shaped like a diamond-shaped spire, it was even clearly visible from the Walvis Bay International Airport.

Chen Chen sat on an authentic black leather revolving chair. His right hand held a glass with translucent liquid bubbling inside it.

Taking gentle sips of Sprite from the glass, Chen Chen took in the well-illuminated night view of the city, basking in the long-awaited tranquility of the night.

Small wonder that countless people wanted to ascend to the top. The higher one stood, the more beautiful the view was, it was a tale as old as time.

  "Sir Godfather."

It was then when Little X's voice suddenly invaded the silence. "Sir Godfather, the bionic technology in the industrial park has fallen into a state of bottleneck recently."

"Tell me, what sort of bottleneck?" Chen Chen asked without so much as turning around.

  "It's about 3D holographic technology."

Little X answered, "My processing speed is more than enough to handle all of the calculations behind the bionic projects, but while our research team was combining the bionic technologies from the movies Alita: Battle Angel, Ghost in the Shell, Terminator, Elysium, and I, Robot, they realized that they needed a 3D holographic technology to be developed in conjunction with the bionic technology. Without it, it's impossible to simulate some of the backend calculations."

"I remember there should be details on 3D holographic imaging technology in the data returned from Elysium."

Chen Chen frownedp. "Is it not possible to replicate the device?"

"Sorry, to replicate the 3D hologram technology from
Elysium, we'll need a superchip less than 1 nanometer. There's also a large technological gap at play so there's not much we can do about it."

  Little X answered.

Chen Chen's expression turned to one which suggested he was in deep thought.

"I only know two movies with extremely developed holographic technology."

Chen Chen only continued after another pause. "The environmental holographic simulator from Prometheus and the holographic projection in Pokémon Detective Pikachu. If we can obtain the technology from these two universes, will it be possible to substitute them for the 3D holographic technology?"

  "Definitely."

Little X answered, "With a lot more to spare too."

"Perfect, I'll head to the nuclear power plan right away."

At the end of his sentence, Chen Chen suddenly took a deep breath. He pushed himself up from his chair and approached the french window.

Unlike other french windows, the french window in the chairman's office could be opened.

When Chen Chen made a slight waving gesture without touching the windows at all, the window suddenly opened on its own!

Chen Chen's ears were immediately filled with the roar of the strong gusts of chilling wind coming from the outside which made him squint.

Some time ago, Chen Chen had absorbed more than 500 crystallines in one go. Ever since that day, Chen Chen realized that his Field was improving at a tremendous rate, even several folds at a time.

At first, he could only affect substances weighing in the range of ten grams, which soon went up to hundreds of grams. Now, Chen Chen's Field could affect substances weighing up to several hundred kilograms.

Just as suspected, the potency of Field increased exponentially the more crystalline was absorbed.

Chen Chen heard the wind howling in his ears. Watching the dazzling night view outside, he was suddenly taken by an urge.

Seemingly having thought of something, Chen Chen suddenly took two steps forward and stepped on the edge of the window stretching down to the floor. He even had half his foot hovering outside the window.
