I Have A Super USB Drive

When they heard this, everyone's faces shifted again.
"Of course, if a player wants to win, it isn't that difficult."
The black sphere ignored the increasingly horrified looks on their faces and went on to say, "There are only 200 signal towers on the island. As long as all the signal towers are lit, then those players who haven't used the communication device can safely leave the island."
"Hold on!"
At this moment, someone finally could not hold back. A middle-aged man with a hooked nose came up and asked loudly, "Then what about those who light up the signal towers? Can't they leave the island?"
"No, because they have been infected with the curse. This curse can only be contained in the safe zone of the island. Once they leave the safe zone, they'll all die within one day…"
The black sphere replied curtly.
"What kind of sh*tty rule is that…"
Upon hearing this, the crowd boiled over once again. After all, how many people in this world would be willing to sacrifice themselves and happily let the others leave?
"This is what you call altruistic behavior."
Hearing that they were arguing again, the black sphere remained unruffled. "You have a total of five hundred and fifty people in this group. As long as you sacrifice two hundred people, the remaining three hundred and fifty people can survive. This is a good trade, isn't it?
"In addition, the environment on the island is also very fertile. There's endless seafood on the beach as well as countless wild fruits in the mountains and forests. You can eat your fill of these foods. The only negative aspect is that on the island there are five special residents."
Special residents?
Everyone was startled again as vague, terrible associations came to mind.
There was another flash in the black sphere's image. A man with pale skin, wearing a black trench coat, appeared on the screen.
This man wore no expression, but the muscles on his body were so developed that even wearing a trench coat could not conceal his perfect contours.
"Ty, Tyrant?"
"Impossible!"
"The monster in Resident Evil?"
Seeing this, the crowd screeched again and countless people started questioning loudly.
"These five residents have very violent tempers. They harbor deep hostility toward outsiders. As long as they see you, they'll quickly launch into the most exhausting pursuit. Please believe me, if you're without any firearms, even a squad of one hundred people can't beat it in hand-to-hand combat…"
The black sphere said faintly, "The only good news is that these five original residents will only kill one person each time, then they'll stop. They randomly wander around all corners of the island. The only place they will not set foot in is the safe zone on the top of the hill…"
At this time, everyone was completely befuddled. Fisher asked a few of his men to protect him, then squeezed to the front of the black sphere, and suddenly asked, "Uh… Mr. Gantz, I want to ask, is there a time limit for this 'game'?"
"No, even if it takes you a year to light up all the signal towers, it's considered that you have completed the task, but…"
The black sphere said, and suddenly laughed lowly, "I almost forgot, there's a rule I haven't told you, that is, if a player who lights the signal tower dies, no matter in what manner, the signal tower they lit up will become ineffective. This will require another communication device to light up."
"What?"
Everyone wailed again and Fisher's pupils shrank even more. He immediately figured out that, in this case, to ensure that the illuminated signal towers were not extinguished, it was necessary to ensure that all the people who lit the signal towers remained alive. Namely, they must be located in the safe zone.
Those who were not cursed must provide food for this group of people or at least provide them with enough food before all the signal towers were lit, to prevent them from starving to death and causing the signal tower to fail.
"What if we snatch someone else's communication device to light the signal tower?"
Just then, another man asked this and the malice in his words made the others frown.
"There's no point in that."
However, the black sphere replied, "Even if a player snatches someone else's communication device to light the signal tower, it's still the player who is infected with the curse, not the owner of the communication device. However, the player who loses the communication device will become the number one target of the five original residents on the island, who will hunt down this player tirelessly until the player is killed or the player has fled to the safe zone."
Hearing this, Fisher felt a chill again, because this put an end to the idea that one person could attempt self-sacrifice, using dozens of communication devices to light up those signal towers.
This was because not only the person who lit up the signal towers would die, but those who donated the communication device would also be in danger of being hunted down by the Tyrants.
"These are all the rules of the game five days later."
At this time, the black sphere said again, "This game is a contest of 'egoistic behavior' and 'altruistic behavior'. As people who believe in altruistic behavior, will you let others sacrifice themselves and huddle behind the hero, becoming an egoist that you so loathe?
"Or do you mean to have the courage to explore all the truths of altruism at the expense of your life?
"Everyone, you'll be tested and your resolve will be tested. There are no words that can become the truth by default. If you want to make it the truth, you can only put it into practice continuously. Whether you live or die, you have the right to choose…"
After the speech given by the black sphere, the entire Blacklight had begun to sail grandly toward an exit in the Mediterranean Sea, riding the wind and waves.
If one turned to look back behind the Blacklight, one would only see the flat horizon of the ocean, where a red setting sun had stained the whole sky, turning the Blacklight into a massive ship cast in a bloody hue…
Chapter 341: Mobilization |
Five days later.
Somewhere on the high seas off the Atlantic Ocean, a huge black cruise ship that had already gone thousands of kilometers off course slowly wandered around in the endless ocean.
The faint silhouette of an island slowly came into view in front of the cruise ship. It was the destination of the cruise ship — Gantz Island.
However, when there was still approximately thirty kilometers between the cruise ship and its destination, a metallic black helicopter slowly took off from its platform on the cruise ship. While it flew ahead to Gantz Island, it hoisted with a long metal strip shaped like a spire that was strapped to its bottom.
Compared to the cruise, this helicopter might as well be a tiny little ant. However, its impressive size was immediately realized when compared to the spire-shaped metal structure it was carrying.
The spire was none other than the Gantz server machine. It was a colossal metallic structure standing more than ten meters tall and weighing up to ten tons. However, when suspended below the helicopter, it only appeared like a measly little structure.
The helicopter transporting the Gantz server machine was a property of the company owned by Blacklight Biotechnology — Tara Strategic Resource's only Mil Mi-26 transport helicopter.
It was the ultimate helicopter spanning more than thirty-five meters long, capable of carrying loads comparable to two CH-47 helicopters. It was nearly as large as a Boeing 737 and could transport a maximum of 80 fully-fitted combat troops at a time. In this present moment inside the helicopter, Samuel, along with twenty other researchers dressed in large white lab coats, looked out at the lush island through the cabin windows. A mixture of many emotions was painted on their faces.
Among these researchers, there were only three professors, Samuel included. The rest of them were the assistant personnel of the research team.
This crew consisted of
Blacklight Biotechnology's newly-recruited researchers from all over the world. For this experiment, Blacklight Biotechnology made a point to offer them extremely lucrative salaries and had them sign a non-disclosure agreement. If the experiment was a success, all of them would make a major leap and be put in a central role in the organization. There was even a chance of them given entry to God's Forbidden Zone.
Needless to be said, if the experiment turned out to be a failure, Blacklight Biotechnology would provide a large sum in pension to their respective families.
Samuel had been restless over the last few days. Although Chen Chen's extremely efficient arrest of the several hundred members of the "White Embers" organization and news of the rescue of his daughter provided him great relief, it was what followed after that rooted the seed of terror in him.
In just a few years since their last meeting, the development of God's Forbidden Zone's technology had taken such massive strides. It was to such a point where Samuel felt like they could almost take over the world. However, even with all the power they had gained in this period, they still held so many reservations about today's experiment.
Their approach to this experiment was so cautious that they would not even let their best scientists get involved but instead let other second-rate scientists pave the way for them.
That alone was a testament to how dangerous this experiment was going to be…
"Now that we're here already, you'd figure we should be told of the general details of the experiment already."
While Samuel swam in his troubled thoughts, a German sociology professor and also in charge of this experiment suddenly broke the silence. "What are the higher-ups at Blacklight Biotechnology thinking? Not just the bunch of kids behind us, even the three of us who are put in charge are not told of the details of the experiment. I just find that a little ridiculous."
The other supervisor chipped in. "Adenauer is right, I get that we're not the core researchers of Blacklight Biotechnology, but you'd think they'd at least tell us something by now. Just what sort of experiment is supposed to require a biologist, a sociologist, and me, a psychologist?"
Samuel looked at the British psychology professor called Erickson. This professor along with himself and Adenauer sitting beside were the three professors coming along for this experiment and also the ones in charge of the overall procedures.
"Everyone, please calm down."
While they were beginning to get agitated, a young man sitting in the middle of the group suddenly got up. He fidgeted in front of everyone and announced using slightly shaky English, "I'll be explaining the details of this experiment to everyone."
The young man was only around fifteen to sixteen years old. His appearance was rather feminine but attractive nonetheless. He continued. "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Yoru Kamidera. I'll be assuming the position of a consultant in this experiment. If you have any questions, you can ask me…"
"You?"
When they saw it was a young man who stood up, their first reaction was to project a frown. The psychologist Erickson had an especially perplexed look in his eyes. "Are you Chinese? You don't even look like an adult to me?"
"I suppose it's because I have some experience regarding this experiment…"
Yoru Kamidera blew out a sigh, his cheeks turned pale as he seemed to have recalled something. "That place is a desolate world even further below the depths of hell, grimmer than death itself. If I had a say in it, I'd rather not be involved for the rest of my life. However, due to my previous experience, my conscience leaves me no other choice…"
"Kiddo, just what are you talking about?"
The German professor Adenauer asked with a tightly knit frown, "That isn't a place for your little games. You say that you're the consultant of this experiment. Where's your proof?"
"Does this count as proof?"
Faced with this remark, Yoru Kamidera decided to just take out a Rubik's Cube. When he pressed one of the buttons and put it in front of the professors, several rays of light shot out from the cube and intersected together to form an image of Chen Chen.
"Mr. Chen!"
"Boss!"
"Boss!"
The three of them nodded like pendulums and greeted Chen Chen nervously.
"Professor Samuel, Professor Adenauer, Professor Erickson, and the other assistants participating in this experiment. What you're seeing now is a pre-recorded footage that I've recorded."
Chen Chen's expression as shown in the footage was mild. "I want to remind all of you that this young man in front of you called Yoru Kamidera is extremely vital to this experiment. If you're dealing with something you don't fully understand, it's best to ask him for his input. If you guys choose to act rashly and do it by yourselves, I'd like to remind you that the mortality rate of this experiment is 50 percent. With the help of Yoru Kamidera, that percentage may drop to near 30 percent."
"What, the mortality rate is 50 percent?"
The color went out of their faces when they heard this. 30 percent more or less meant one in every three. Dangerous would be an understatement for this experiment. Even in modern warfare, the mortality rate rather exceeded 5 percent for the losing side.
However, since Chen Chen was just a recorded footage, there was no chance of him seeing and responding to their reaction. He only went on with his dialogue. "But you won't have to worry about that. Each of you here is the elite of Blacklight Biotechnology and has also signed the non-disclosure agreement. If something unfortunate does occur in this experiment, your families will receive a 7-digit pension. On the contrary, if the experiment proved successful, it will pave a great, respectable future for each one of you here. Also, you may get the opportunity to become a part of the central ring of our company…"
"What!"
The follow-up remark astounded each and every one of them. Some of them even shot out of their seats.
News of an organization like God's Forbidden Zone established on the basis of financial groups helping each other had long since piqued the curiosity of the public. Although not as widely known as the Freemasonry, the phrase God's Forbidden Zone was no longer taboo in the inner ring of Blacklight Biotechnology but looked up to almost like a religion.
That was because everyone knew that only the richest among the rich of each country and the most influential people got to join this organization. The list of benefits that came with joining this organization could go on for days, lifespan, power, wealth… Everything!
Chapter 342: The Danger of Messages |
After Chen Chen gave his word, their restless hearts stilled themselves. Even the new researchers silently determine to give this their all.
After all, when they signed the contract, they had seen all the associated connections that came with the contract so they were more or less mentally prepared.
While they were discussing this, the helicopter had arrived at Gantz Island. However, they did not fly straight for the central hill on the island but instead slowly descended by the edge of the coast.
"This place is?"
They curiously peeked outside the window to investigate what was going on. It was at that moment when they suddenly felt a violent wind pressure tearing behind them. The noise of the propellers simultaneously grew louder in their ears as well.
They immediately put on their hats and tried shielding themselves from the wind using their hand.
The cargo compartment door behind them had opened without them noticing.
In the cargo warehouse on the lower level of the cabin were five gigantic metal containers. Each one of the containers was four meters long and two meters wide, shaped like five coffins altogether. Light bulbs were flashing on top of them.
It was at that moment when one of the bulbs on one of the coffins flashed from green to red, it was immediately followed by a hiss of an engine that sounded like a connection mechanism was automatically cut off. The very next second, the container slid down along the rail and fell out of the helicop
ter that was thirty meters above the air!
"Bang!"
The people inside the cabin only heard a muffled crash. Before they had time to investigate just what it was that fell, the helicopter took off again in another direction.
After the helicopter flew off into the distance, the container that fell onto the ground seemed to trigger its designed mechanism and nailed itself into the ground vertically. After that, more red lights began flashing on it.
"Hiss…"
As the number of red flashing lights increased in numbers and frequency, white steam began to spew out between the gaps of the container. With a mighty crash, the front cover of the container abruptly burst open and flew more than ten meters outward!
If anyone was present at the scene, they would see that inside the coffin-like container stood a giant standing over 3.5 meters tall and weighing even more than world-class heavy-weight boxers!
After the container cover was burst open, the awfully pale-looking giant wearing a trench coat slowly stepped out from inside. After it stretched its muscles, it let out an unhinged roar…
The M-26 helicopter finally turned toward the mountain peak of Gantz Island after dropping off all five containers.
Ten minutes later, the Gantz server machine was set on the top of the mountain while the others also exited the helicopter.
"This is the place."
Yoru Kamidera shot a glance at the statue, the inner conflict clear in his eyes as he did this. When he looked around, he saw that the entirety of the island was packed with lush greenery except for the mountaintop section they were at. The top of the mountain was a bald patch without a single tree in sight.
All of the plants here had been paved up by Blacklight Biotechnology.
"What is this place? Don't tell me this is where we're conducting the experiment?"
Adenauer gestured with his hands and told Yoru Kamidera, "I don't think any experiment can be conducted in this place."
"Of course it's not here, we're doing it underground."
