“Come again?” she asked. His eyes got dark. Heated.

“I’d love to make you come again. Over and over, Laney.”

Her stomach flipped, her pussy throbbed. Holy. Shit.

“You didn’t call me Red…” she whispered.

“You like it when I call you Red, dontcha’?”

  She bit her lip.

Jake leaned in close enough to her she could smell the heavenly scent of his cologne mixed with the alcohol. It was so deliciously intoxicating to her right now. It had to be the whiskey running through her veins that was making her think and feel this way, but she didn’t care. The one thing she knew was she was definitely not thinking about Connor.

“Don’t bite your lip like that unless you want me to take you right here on this bartop, Red.”

She couldn’t help herself. She bit her lip again and tossed her hair over her shoulder.

  Jake downed his beer.

“Come on,” he grabbed her hand.

“Where are we going?” she asked breathlessly.

“I want to dance with you, and not that junior high bullshit we did tonight.”

“But what if someone notices us?”

  “Do you care right now?”

It didn’t take her long to think about it, “No.”

“Let’s go, Red.” He pulled her next to him and thread his fingers through hers. They walked to the dance floor, hand in hand.

Jake pulled her in tight to him, wrapping his arms around her waist, pressing one hand into the small of her back, the other just below the clasp of her bra. She leaned into him, putting her head on his chest, her arms resting on his shoulders. She was thankful she was wearing heels. The height differential between the two was insane. If the two were barefoot, he had to be at least a foot taller than her. If not more. She never expected tonight to end up like this, but it was better than drowning her sorrows alone. Lane allowed herself to let go and be in the moment. She’d deal with the bullshit another day.

As they danced, she could feel Jake’s hardness pressing into her stomach. It heated her to the core knowing that she had this effect on him. As she grinded against him, she could feel his length grow. He leaned down and pulled her earlobe into his mouth. “You know what you’re doing, Red?” He growled into her ear. He pressed his length into her, increasing her need to embarrass herself by humping his leg. Control yourself, Lane! She looked up at him and into his eyes. Damn, he’s so handsome.

Lane wanted to be confident. She wanted to say yes. She wanted to say she absolutely knew what she was doing. But couldn’t. Because she didn’t. She shook her head no.

“Well, you tell me when you figure it out, then,” Jake said and then released her and turned to walk away. Fuck. She had no idea what she was doing. But she certainly didn’t want to go back to her own room. And she definitely wanted Jake Hamilton. What the hell. So as he turned to walk away, Lane grabbed his wrist and pulled him back.

He stared at her, searching her eyes for an answer.

  “Take me upstairs, Jake.”

He gave her his patented shit-eating grin, entwined his fingers in hers, and pulled her off the dance floor and toward the elevators. Lane still wasn’t quite sure what she was doing, but tonight was going to be interesting.

Thank you to my husband for being such sweet support through this process. I would also like to thank my family members who put up with me talking about writing this book for so long.

Thanks to my Sheriff Deputy consultant for providing vital information with minimal resistance and to my sweet cousin for being such a trooper through this whole process. Without these two individuals I never would have found the motivation to take the first step and write book one.

A special thanks to my many friends in law enforcement and emergency services for protecting our communities and providing inspiration for the events and stories in the Bounty County Series.

To all of the beta readers, thank you all so very much for taking the time to read this story and provide your valuable feedback. I have so much love and appreciation for each of you!

Lastly, to the haters who didn't see this book (let alone a series) ever coming to fruition, suck it!
