Alphas, Secrets and Surprises

As if summoned by his thoughts, his mate chose this exact moment to enter the room. "Am I interrupting?" he asked with a sheepish smile.

"You're never interrupting, Alpha Maximoff, not where Argent is concerned." Remy grinned. "I'm going to see my brother. I'll drop by again later, all right?"

Argent nodded, thankful that his friend understood his bond with Sasha so well. Once Remy was gone, Sasha sat down next to Argent and took his hand. "How are you feeling?"

Argent rolled his eyes. "You already know I'm fine. Any particular reason you're asking?"

"Maybe." Sasha brushed his thumb over Argent's cheek. "I just worry I don't spend enough time with you, and I was thinking... Maybe we could leave the pack to Vanya for the weekend, take some time for each other. We haven't been to the den in ages."

The den. Enthusiasm pulsed inside Argent, and he nodded eagerly. "I'd like that."

Despite the pregnancy, he had no trouble shifting. Sasha absolutely refused to engage in a playful hunt, even if Argent was nowhere near incapacitated. Nonetheless, it was nice to run through the forest in wolf form, nice to connect with his roots again.

When Sasha steered him to the den, Argent lay down on the furs, but didn't change shapes. This felt right, he realized. He felt safer here than anywhere else. He never wanted to leave.

As his mate's larger form settled down behind him, Argent closed his eyes and let reality fade away. This was what mattered—him, Sasha, their bond and their baby. The rest could wait.

Remy was not a happy camper. He did not appreciate his brother's babysitting tendencies, and he hated it even more that they often got in the way of him facing his fears.

"I know you're not happy with me, brother, but I mean well," Laurent tried to apologize. "You need a break. Besides, this investigation is important."

Remy couldn't deny that, and he also knew he was the best person to look into the dealings of Florent's former guild. After all, he'd been one of the people most affected by it. Still, it irritated him that he was forced to leave just before the arrival of Baqir, the Malik who could perhaps provide some insight into the peculiar situation they were all in. They didn't know the details, but the Malik's ongoing investigation on the Lone Wolf Pack attack was a source of mystery that intrigued all of them.

Still, the members of Florent's guild couldn't be forgotten, and there was one other person who knew that, and disliked leaving as much as he did. "Did you tell him about me?" Blanchefleur asked.

Remy shook his head at the former silencer. "I thought you might want to explain yourself. I know it wasn't easy for you to commit to this decision."

Blanchefleur didn't answer, but Remy didn't expect her to. He and the silencer woman still had a vaguely complicated relationship. After all, she had been the one to pull the trigger to the weapon that had blinded him.

However, she and her mate had also taken a more merciful approach than other silencers would have used, and they'd made sure Remy would one day regain his sight. As such, he both owed her, and to some extent, resented her. Still, she would help a great deal if they wanted to unearth the truth behind Florent's affairs, and stabilize the situation with the now abandoned guild.

"I think Argent and Sasha have been through enough," she finally said. "I want them to live and be happy, to have what Sylvain and I never managed to achieve. I trust Alpha Maximoff with my son and my grandson, and I will do everything in my power to protect them, in my own way." She paused and arched a brow at Remy. "What about you, Mr. Fitzroy? Are you ready for the storm that's coming our way?"

Remy shrugged. He didn't bother telling her that there were few things that could scare a near-blind werewolf, and fewer things he had to lose. "I've weathered storms before—both metaphorically and otherwise. Now... Shall we begin?"

  About the Author

Anya Byrne is first and foremost a longtime fan of erotic romance. Starting to write her own stories was a natural progression of her devotion for the genre. Years after she put pen to paper in that very first book, she is just as enthusiastic and, let's face it, somewhat obsessive about erotic romance and all that it entails. She is steadfast in the belief that there's nothing quite as hot as an amazing hero—except more amazing heroes engaged in heroic hot lovin', and has branched out into the field of self-publishing to convince even more readers of this fact. Hopefully, she will succeed.

For decades, Mathias Girard has been convinced Will Orwell is his mate. It is painful for him to know that Will belongs to someone else and is forever out of his reach. But when Will's son Jessie desperately needs Mathias's help, Mathias doesn't hesitate and rushes to his aid. He does not expect his visit to the Lone Wolf Pack to lead him to his destined mate. Ward Bennet.

It takes but a moment—the moment Mathias's eyes meet Ward's—for him to realize he had it all wrong. His heart finally finds its true north, no longer torn apart by self-deception and grief. But things aren't about to go smoothly for Mathias. They never do.

Ward comes to Willow Cove in an attempt to hide from his past. Seeking refuge in the small town that his mother once called home, he finds a love he was not looking for, and he is thrust into a world he is completely unprepared for.
